The fact that I had problems is not necessarily a sign that others,
particularly those who really know what they're doing, will have
problems.  It would be great if those who know would share, here :)

The other point, which you seem to have run into, is that not everyone
will be able to convert to compatibility volumes or fall back on other
tools, depending upon which evms features they are using.  I think the
manual says that only volumes that aren't using EVMS "feature objects"
can be converted to compatibiity volumes.  Since evms is mostly using
other facilities, it seems possible in principle to do without it.

It certainly would be wonderful if active maintainership resumed.
