Hm, there are some differences in HID configuration-- I'll look into that.

My initrd has a complete chroot environment, including evms_activate, that's
been stable for a couple of years.  I did just try updating the initrd, and
there's no change.  And evms_activate still works fine with 2.6.26.

CONFIG_MD_AUTODETECT is new in the kernel since 2.6.26.  I have it set to N,
which seems probably best, but maybe I'll try Y to see if it helps.

If I can't solve this, then eventually it will be the final push that forces me
to abandon EVMS.  What a shame.
