Well, thanks.  That sounds pretty definite.

But does it have to be?  Comparing sections of text by lining 
them up on adjacent virtual consoles and switching between 
them works so beautifully - a semi-colon instead of a colon 
anywhere on the screen just jumps out at you.  Clearing the 
screen first is not only annoying and tiring for the eyes, 
it also means you have to go through the screen line by line 
(switching to and fro) for the same result.

Are we going to have to sacrifice this facility in the name 
of progress?
