API + Xfree-fbdev questions

Where can I find documentation (tutorial/HOWTOs ect) on the "new" API
(for linux 2.6)? Is it backwards compatible with the old (2.4) API?

Can I run XFree-FBdev on a "new API" (2.6) fbdev driver?
