There is a chipsfb driver in 2.6 which looks like is properly coded.

Possibly, as long it's VESA VBE Version 2.0 at least. And I think the
ct65550 does have the 2.0 version.

That's the first thing you need to do, make sure that the device
is detected first.  Then try vesafb.
