Thanks, that helps partly! I can see a proper picture, however just in the 
left 2/3 of the screen, I guess that is 640x480. It is also slightly shifted 
downward. What does xclk do? Where can I find proper docs for the driver? (In 
the usual place aka. the source?)

It is the kernel option FB_ATY_GENERIC_LCD. Enabling it and your proposed 
kernel argument resulted in a pefectly working framebuffer! Yieppieh!
