radeonfb ?

Hello. 

I recently switched to a much newer card. An ATI Radeon 7000. Apparently
I cant choose video modes when the kernel starts up.

Ususally with the old card 'ati rage 128' adding to grub:
video=aty128fb:1600x1200-16@60 was sufficient.

Now with the Radeon card: ' video=radeonfb:1600x1200-16@60 ' I see the
penguin logo, but the text looks like 640x480. Really big. Compiled the
kernel, like I normally do, tho this time I did not compile the atyfb
kernel module. Just the radeonfb and the usual font settings. This
framebuffer resolution 1600x1200 worked like a charm with the Rage128
card.

I also tried using 'fbset' to set the resolution. I've tried different
resolutions and everytime, it's about to switch it,monitors Turns black.
The screen goes pitch black, and a few seconds later the monitor goes
into DPMS (appears to be energy saving mode)

Grub settings I so far have tried:
vga=791 append="video=radeonfb:mode1024x768,cmode:16"
video=radeonfb:1600x1200-16@60
vga=5

None of them work. I contacted the GATOS mailing list and no one knew
about it either. Im using XFree 4.3 from sources with ati.2 and
drm-kernel from cvs. Compiled on kernel-2.4.20

Any insight to this would really be appreciated.
