Changes in 2.5.x?

Curious about changes in the 2.5 series of kernels. In my 2.4 kernel I can pass vga=788 which claims to give me 800x600x16m, which looks right, then spouts setting console frame buffer at 100x37, which is desirable for me. On my 2.5 series, a can pass the vga=788 and it looks good for half a sec till the console frame buffer sets itself 128x48, which ends up with same line wraps and scrolling of the bottom.
