Suppress "Permission denied" error when setting a default ACL rec ursively?

When I set a default ACL recursively for an entire directory tree, I get a
"Permission denied" error for every single non-directory file in the tree.
Is there a way to suppress this error message?  I'm using Debian's packages,
libacl version 2.2.23-1 and acl version 2.0.8-1.
