Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: PostScript and PDF documentation is now created using the new
pst-barcode LaTeX package to generate the barcode images.

About: bibEC Process Card is a class that processes credit card payments
via one of the multiple supported payment gateways. Currently, these
include Plug and Pay, Authorize.net, and ViaKlix. Changing between payment
gateways is mostly a matter of changing the class constructor parameter. It
provides a payment gateway independent API with functions for logging the
payment activity, setting authentication credentials, submitting
requests, and retrieving the results. Submissions are performed securely
when possible using SSL or Curl.

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Information Management
About: CeeMedia is a program for cataloguing your movie collection. It can
retrieve information and cover images from places such as Amazon, IMDb, All
Movie Guide, and AlloCiné. You can also write your own plugin for

task, while trying to follow the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines.
Changes: This is the final 0.5.2 release, featuring a rewritten shelf
view, a suggest-a-movie feature, improved plugins, and much more. The
movie-info view to the right can now display HTML, and it is now a lot
prettier. "Suggest a movie" can now filter through states and also do
normal and runtime filtering. The IMDb-plugin can now fetch covers. A
"guided startup" was added in the movie-info view (which requires
GtkHTML2). A right click menu is now available on movies. "Import movies
from folder" can now also import single files. Lots of bugfixes were made.

[010] - Conary 0.61.6
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Tue, Aug 2nd 2005 18:14
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Cached changesets in a Conary repository now use much less space
by referencing elements in the contents store. Support for user and group
handling has been enhanced. CIL dependency detection is less fragile.

[012] - Daemonize 0.1.2
by Travis Whitton (http://freshmeat.net/users/whitton/)
Tue, Aug 2nd 2005 12:29
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
About: Daemonize is a Ruby module derived from Perl's Proc:: Daemon
module. It allows you to easily modify any existing Ruby program to run as
a daemon. Converting a program to a daemon by hand is a relatively simple
process; however, this module will save you the effort of repeatedly
looking up the procedure, and it will also ensure that your programs are
daemonized in the safest and most correct fashion possible.
Changes: Closing all open file handles is now optional and defaults to
false. The install process now uses setup.rb for greater flexibility.

the new "minimal" option. Desktop doc apps were moved from tools and wmix
from xmms to the desktop section of the menu. pppdial now has its own

[014] - darcs 1.0.4pre2
by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
Tue, Aug 2nd 2005 03:58
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system. It has two
particularly distinctive features which differ from other revision control
systems: each copy of the source is a fully functional branch, and
underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory of patches. In spite of
its power, darcs is simple to use, in part because of the symmetry that is
restored by making each copy of the repository a branch.
Changes: This release adds numerous optimizations and minor bugfixes.
Darcs now scales much better to large repositories, and performs much
better on huge files with many changes. "Darcs changes" has been extended
to allow display of entire patches with the --verbose flag. Experimental
support for working with Git repositories has been added.

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables, indexes,
views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored procedures, you can
view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the results of queries.
You can also graphically view foreign key relationships.
Changes: Support was added for views and functions in Schema Comparison
Tool, which allows you to compare tables, views, functions, and stored
procedures between two schemas/databases. It will report any discrepancies
between schemas such as missing or mismatching tables, columns, indexes,
triggers, and constraints. It also will detect column discrepancies such
as data type, nullability, and defaults. Comparison can also be done
between two different DBMS platforms, such as Oracle and SQL Server.

Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: jzForum is a simple forum system based on the jZonic framework
that supports multiple forums and RSS feeds for forums, categories, and
threads. User and rights management is integrated. It is very easy to
install because it uses hypersonic as a database, although it can be used
with different databases. The look and feel can easily be changed using
CSS. It currently supports user, moderator, and admin roles with a
defined set of permissions.
Changes: This release fixes a bug where user could not change his
password. The forum was not working when the installation directory
contained spaces in the directory name. Editing of a reply is now working.
It created a new reply in v1.3. The fix was to update to the latest version
of jLo and jConfig.

About: The PreludeDB Library provides an abstraction layer upon the type
and format of the database used to store IDMEF alerts. It allows
developers to use the Prelude IDMEF database easily and efficiently
without worrying about SQL, and to access the database independently of
the type/format of the database.
Changes: An IDMEF SNMPService mapping problem and an IDMEF FileAccess
permission mapping problem were fixed. Close on exec flags are now set on
the logging file descriptor. The '%' character is now escapted within
queries, since the caller is expected to use '*'.

[063] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 13
by Dennis Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
Tue, Aug 2nd 2005 12:32
About: SODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in either
Icon (or Unicon) or Maple. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of
the location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control
the error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there
are so many possibilities.
Changes: It's possible to use an independent variable other than 'x'.
There are minor improvements to 'readme.txt'.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering
About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.
Changes: A Save Movie wizard has been added to the GUI to allow saving of
animations without having to start a new CLI session. A Command window was
also added, allowing Python scripts to be executed within the GUI. There is
a new "Export database" window to convert part or all of an input dataset
to one of the formats that support file writing. VisIt's annotation mode
has been greatly enhanced with new annotation types. Many performance
optimizations were added for large AMR grids. As usual, many other
enhancements and bugfixes are included.

by Jörg Schilling (http://freshmeat.net/users/schily/)
Tue, Aug 2nd 2005 00:58
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: smake is a higly portable make program with automake features. It
implements a complete superset of the features of the classical Unix make
program. It warns about typical misusage of dynamic macros that prevent
portability of makefiles.
Changes: The program now makes sure that $(VAR:%=PREFIX/%) expands to
nothing in the case that $(VAR) is empty. Export VAR now expands the
content of the make macro "VAR" before putting the content into the
environment. A better warning message is now printed when there are too
many target items (targets left to a ':') for a rule. This version will be
/usr/ccs/bin/make on SchilliX 0.2.
