Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.

Changes: The ISBN encoder was upgraded to support the emerging ISBN-13
symbology.

Information Management

About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.

Changes: An improper error message that was displayed when failing to save
the stored query was corrected. A null pointer exception that occurred when
entering a negative issue number in the form was fixed.

[007] - C->Haskell 0.14.2
  by Chilli (http://freshmeat.net/users/ChilliX/)
  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 08:26

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: C->Haskell is an interface generator that simplifies the
development of Haskell bindings to C libraries. The tool processes
existing C header files that determine data layout and function signatures
on the C side in conjunction with Haskell modules that specify Haskell-side
type signatures and marshaling details. Hooks embedded in the Haskell code
signal access to C structures and functions; they are expanded by the
interfacing tool in dependence on information from the corresponding C
header file.

Changes: This release has a completely new build system using Cabal, has a
much faster C parser, generates bindings independent of an extra library,
and fixes some bugs.

Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.

Changes: A bug causing some headers to be modified (and improperly
decoded) was fixed. When using localStore, the X-DSPAM-User flag is now
populated. Support for the Reactive Autonomous Blackhole List (RABL) has
been added.

  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 05:17

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: EXProxy is a simple HTTP/HTTPS proxy server packaged as a library
and designed to listen to HTTP requests and responses going through it. It
has also the ability to modify requests and responses on the fly. For HTTP

[017] - fwknop 0.9.2
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 17:18

Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme that requires only a
single encrypted packet to communicate various pieces of information,
including desired access through a Netfilter policy and/or specific
commands to execute on the target system. The main application of this
program is to protect services such as SSH with an additional layer of
security in order to make the exploitation of vulnerabilities much more
difficult. The authorization server works by passively monitoring
authorization packets via libpcap.

Changes: This release adds a FILE_PCAP data collection method when running
in server mode. This is a more general way of getting packets than the
ULOG_PCAP mode, since then a normal ethernet sniffer can be used to build
the file. The ability to re-open a pcap file if its size shrinks (i.e. it
gets rotated out) has been added. There is a bugfix for multiple rules
with the same timestamp not being timed out by knoptm. Spoofing capability
is integrated directly within fwknop instead of using the knopspoof
command. Better multi-protocol support in server mode. TCP and ICMP
packets are properly decoded now.

  by gambas (http://freshmeat.net/users/gambas/)
  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 17:28

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Gambas is a graphical development environment based on a Basic
interpreter, like Visual Basic. It uses the Qt toolkit, but is able to use
any other toolkit that a module is written for.

Changes: Now you can make true containers controls in Gambas. ColumnView
(and other view controls) have a Compare event that is called for
comparing columns. A new (not yet finished) FileChooser control was made
to show this. Right-to-left languages are now taken into account by
container arrangement routines. There is a new experimental Editor control
in the QT extension component. It aims to replace the GambasEditor control.
It can share its text with other editors and display number lines. It will
support custom highlighting routines in the future.

  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 17:11

About: Guten is a tool for browsing, retrieving, reading, and managing
electronic books published by Project Gutenberg. It provides an interface
for reading books that allows bookmarks to be added to text. Books can be
imported from files that have already been downloaded, or through a simple
interface that browses and downloads files from a PG mirror. A Python
module that automates the retrieval of catalogues and books from a PG
mirror is also provided.

Changes: The catalogue interface has been simplified and now supports
author and title searches. Catalogue parsing and book downloading is now
faster and more robust.

[024] - GWintree 0.9.2-1
  by David J. Cooke (http://freshmeat.net/users/djcooke/)
  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 08:27

About: GWintree is a genealogy chart program for Linux, which produces 2
styles of compact full charts from GEDCOM data, showing all blood
relatives. Options are available to show ancestors only or descendants
only. Charts can be printed across multiple pages or saved as image files,
and can display over 1000 families, showing all links, optionally
colour-coded, and formatted so families are not split by page breaks. It
also produces birth brief (pedigree) charts and selective ancestor charts,
and incorporates a simple data entry interface to create/edit/view GEDCOM
files.

Changes: A new descendant sheet chart has been added, designed to show
lines of descent laterally on a single page. The program has also been
ported to Gnome2/GTK2.

[025] - HAproxy 1.1.32 (Stable)
  by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 17:15

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking

About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, advanced logging contents to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with thousands of simultaneous
connections. It currently lacks SSL and keep-alive, both of which are
planned.

Changes: A real fix for an incorrectly fixed timeout bug in 1.1.25. New
control of per-process FD limits in the configuration, a new "monitor-net"
keyword to bypass processing for external health-checkers, and even finer
grained error reporting in the logs, along with the number of active
sessions at any time. It now correctly builds on PPC64, and has been
tested in production for about 1 month on Solaris, Linux, and OpenBSD. The
"logging" section of the documentation has been greatly improved with
detailed examples.

run-time regex-based header control, advanced logging contents to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other

It now correctly builds on PPC64 and Debian 3.1, and
has been running for about 1 month on OpenBSD. The "logging" section of the
documentation has been greatly improved with detailed examples.

Communications :: Telephony
Internet

About: Jiplet is short for Java SIP Servlet. The Jiplet Container is a
development and runtime environment for creating server-side SIP
applications. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is widely used for
providing telephone services over the Internet. The Jiplet Container
provides a Java servlet-like development and run-time environment for
developing, deploying, and running SIP applications. Many of its features
are very similar to the Java servlet environment, including support for
servlet mapping, scoped variables, and context handling.

Changes: Support for the SIP proxy functionality has been added. The
reference application has been enhanced to include simple presence server
capability. The reference application now partly supports Microsoft
Windows Messenger clients. Any modifications to the memory realm (CMAA) no
longer require the jiplet container to be restarted to take effect. The
jiplet console now displays security constraint parameters for the
jiplets. Several bugs have been fixed.

[055] - RTL-check 0.1.4
  by tootix (http://freshmeat.net/users/tootix/)
  Sun, Aug 7th 2005 22:12

Software Development

About: RTL-check is a framework for static analysis of programs from a
safety and security perspective. It performs analysis on RTL, which is the
low-level intermediate representation generated by GCC. This framework was
created for a research project that deals with static analysis and memory
safety of programs developed in unsafe languages such as C or C++. In
particular, it is targeted at detecting buffer overflows statically and
proving their absence. However, this framework should be useful for other
projects dealing with static analysis.

Changes: This version is mostly a bugfix release. Many important bugs that
affected the correctness of the analysis were fixed. The analysis as a
whole is now cleaner and easier to understand. Integer overflows aside,
this version of the analysis is believed to be safe. (The last few
versions were definitely not.)
