[003] - Asymptote 0.93
  by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: The import scheme was redesigned, with new keywords: access,
unravel, from, and include. This allows for a true interactive mode.
Acroread is the default PDF browser. Matrix surface graphs were
implemented. Problems with CSV mode were fixed. The quotient and %
functions are now consistent. Checks for integer overflow were added. The
shading routines were renamed. Label scaling was implemented. Default
command-line parameters are read from an options file. The interactive
history file is now stored in the home directory. Outputting to standard
output is possible.

[004] - Axiomatic Multi-Platform C 1.3.2
  by napi (http://freshmeat.net/users/napi/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 04:03

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C compiler suite with an IDE
that generates Java bytecode to produce platform independent applicatons.
It supports a very large subset of ANSI C (1989). It can be used to
develop new applications using C as well as port existing applications
written in C to run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface)
feature is available for calling native C or C++ functions. Also, many
Java methods can be called from AMPC. The asm() directive can be used to
embed Jasmin assembly code within C source code. It is useful for writing
new applications using existing C skill-sets and porting C programs.

Changes: The resulting executables were sped up by using a more efficient
Union/Struct library.

  by Lev_Arris (http://freshmeat.net/users/LevArris/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 10:33

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup,
recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different
computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient
and relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage
management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged
files.

Changes: Fixes to wx-windows. Corrected ACLs for Solaris. The unmount
command now unloads autochanger. A hang in FD and a Win98 stat() problem
in FD have been fixed. Update slots that did not clear missing tapes have
been fixed. Restoration of the first file of non-portable Win32 backups is
allowed. With multiple concurrent jobs, the autochanger could get confused
because of a missing mutex. This has been fixed.

[007] - BitEvolution 0.9g
  by Scott Gillette (http://freshmeat.net/users/scottagillette/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 00:19

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: BitEvolution is an easy-to-use client/server application that you
can use to keep your distributed application up to date. Modeled after the
Apache ANT project, it is a task-based application intended to eliminate
the work required to write, test, and debug a home-grown update
application. Your distributed application does not have to be written in
Java to take advantage of BitEvolution.

Changes: The location of temporary downloaded content was updated so that
multiple BitEvolution clients can execute concurrently. The memory
footprint of the client was reduced significantly. The overhead associated
with client requests was reduced significantly. The overhead associated
with the server responses was reduced significantly. The payload of server
responses for files was increased, which increases the amount of data sent
for each file request. The dependency on the commons-codec JAR file was
removed. The size of "fine" log entries was reduced.

[008] - BMP 0.12.7
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 00:58

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is an audio player that tries to maintain a stable audio
playback core with a powerful, yet easy-to-use remote API using DBus,
while also providing a skinned, yet easy and understandable user interface
with the core GUI.

Changes: A problem was fixed in which the UI would stall when acquiring
remote metadata (in the stream listing dialogs and when adding playlists
which contain http:// URIs). List scrolling was improved by pre-fetching
the metadata for all items coming into view after a scroll event. Possible
display inconsistencies when scrolling a list too fast were fixed. The
metadata caching system was improved with sanity checks and a versioning
which makes incompatible future changes of the format crash-safe. Various
other bugs were fixed.

  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 03:24

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Enhydra XMLC radically simplifies Web development by cleanly
separating presentation from code. Enhydra XMLC parses an HTML file and
creates a Java object that enables an application to change the HTML
file's content at runtime, without regard for its formatting.

Changes: An issue with resolving SSI's when using deferred parsing/dynamic
loading was fixed. getElementById(String) implementations in
WMLDocumentImpl and VoiceXMLDocumentImpl were fixed.
getElementsByTagName(String) in the XHTML DOM was fixed. The XHTML boolean
attribute methods incorrectly returned false for any values but "y", "yes",
and "true"; this has been fixed. The ability to specify a custom set of
attributes on which to apply URL rewriting in OutputOptions was added.
WML1.2 and WML1.3 DTDs were added.

  by Cyberlot (http://freshmeat.net/users/cyberlot/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 00:15

Communications :: Chat
Games/Entertainment

About: FlashUnity is a channel-based approach to an XML flash
communications server and chat room. By using the concept of channels and
filters, each of which handles a different task, the FlashUnity server
becomes extremely flexible and easy to extend. Also, by using channels it

Changes: GTK+-2.6 is now required. A Bulgarian translation was added. The
Russian translation was updated. An option was added to disable the OpenGL
bilinear filtering. There is a new command to reload the current image, and
another one to hide all floating windows at once. There is now a thumbnails

[023] - gui4j 1.2.3
  by Kay Krüger-Barvels (http://freshmeat.net/users/kay17/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 07:17

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: gui4j is a framework for describing Java Swing GUIs completely in
XML. The GUI is created dynamically based on the XML definitions. Each GUI
window is associated with exactly one top-level XML file. Each XML file can
dynamically include other XML files to support complex GUI definitions.
Each XML file is associated with a Java object that acts as both a
Controller and a Model for the GUI. There is a strong layer separation
between the GUI and the Controller: GUI definitions in the XML files can
access all Java methods of the Controller, but Java methods cannot access
any GUI elements directly. Events are used to trigger changes in the GUI.
It requires Java 1.4.0 or higher.

Changes: There are a few minor additions and a fix for a subtle bug in
gui4j's thread handling mechanism.

[024] - HTTP client request class 2005.11.15
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 00:45

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP client is a PHP class to make HTTP requests. It can submit
requests via a proxy server, establish secure connections (HTTPS) via a
proxy server, PHP with OpenSSL support, or the Curl library with optional
SSL client certificates. It supports HTTP authentication directly or via
proxy using the SASL library, like HTTP Basic, HTTP Digest, and NTLM
(Windows or Samba). It submits POST requests with user-defined form
values, file uploading, or with user-defined request bodies. It retrieves
the HTTP response headers and body data separately. It handles cookies and
automatic redirection handling.

Changes: The encoding of authentication responses was fixed to make all
authentication mechanisms work correctly again.

[025] - HTTP extension for PHP 0.18.0
  by Michael Wallner (http://freshmeat.net/users/_mike_/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 10:50

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP extension for PHP allows building absolute URIs, RFC-compliant
HTTP redirects, RFC-compliant HTTP date handling, parsing of HTTP headers
and messages, caching by "Last-Modified" and/or ETag (with an 'on the fly'
option for ETag generation from buffered output), sending
data/files/streams with (multiple) ranges, negotiating user-preferred
language/charset, and convenient request functionality built upon libcurl.
PHP5 classes: HttpUtil, HttpResponse (PHP-5.1), HttpRequest,
HttpRequestPool, and HttpMessage.

Changes: This release adds an INI setting http.force_exit that can be used
to disable script termination in case of redirects and positive cache hits
(instead, standard output will be discarded). It adds experimental
http.chunked_encode and chunked_decode stream filters. Fixed bugs: a
warning about an invalid curl handle at HttpRequestPool destruction;
http_get_request_headers() modified $_SERVER array; message parser
required "=" in Content-Range response message headers; and errors in
directly setting HttpMessage property values.

  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 07:45

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering

About: JGraph is a free, mature, and robust Java Graphing framework that
fully complies with Swing design principles. It contains all the graph
visualization and interaction functionality you might expect in a graph
library, including multiple views, layering, zoom, drag and drop, undo,
automatic expanding and collapsing, routing, and layouts. You can create
stunning workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams,
database visualization tools, and more. It can also be deployed on the
server-side with a large range of image exporting functionality. It is
fully documented and commercially supported.

Changes: An automatic resizing feature has been added, so the graph
expands as you drag out of the bottom or right-hand edges of a scroll
pane. An appropriate flag, autoResizeGraph, to toggle the functionality
was added to the JGraph class. A bug in the new collapse/expand example,
GraphEdX, was fixed. The JGraph User Manual has received a number of
corrections, and the sections on XML encoding, image and SVG export, and
use in a headless environment have been improved.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.

Information Management :: Records Management

About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.

About: P3Scan is a full transparent proxy server for email clients. It
runs on a Linux box with iptables (for port redirection). It can be used
to provide email scanning from the Internet to any internal network, and
is ideal for helping to protect your "Other OS" LAN from harm, especially

functionality of commercial packages like Reference Manager or EndNote in
a platform-independent tool, targeting markup languages rather than word
processors.

Changes: The client-server protocol was rewritten to improve error
reporting and recovery. The server now supports sqlite3 as a database
engine, support for MySQL 4.0 and later was improved, and support for
character encodings was enhanced. References can now contain multiple
links to URLs, and extended notes can be marked public or private.
Bibliographies can now render titles in place of missing authors. All
manuals and DTD descriptions are now shipped with the sources. An
interactive tool to create bibliography styles and two scripts to backup

[081] - WP Clipart 1.1
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 21:33

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Text Processing :: General

About: WP Clipart is an attempt to make a useful clipart package of public
domain images for use in word processors. It contains nearly 5,000 pieces
of non-transparent PNG clip art, which is exactly what AbiWord prints and
scales well. It has been optimized for use in all word processors (scaled
down, midtones expanded for inkjet print quality, etc.) It is suitable for
documents as well as Web graphics, but also has business application
(credit cards, promo graphics) and educational uses (pictures of all US
presidents, all country flags, all US states, sign language alphabet).

Changes: The Christmas section of the clipart was expanded. The viewer now
has a splashscreen, and a touch of code cleanup was done. Please note that
the viewer is available separately from the homepage.

Internet
Software Development :: Libraries

About: WvStreams is a library set composed of a number of parts. Among
them are WvIPStreams (WvTCPStream and WvUDPStream), WvStrings (yet another
C++ String class), WvCrypto Streams (including an easy way to add SSL
support to applications), UniConf (a universal configuration system),
WvLog (nice, simple handling of log files), and a whole host of other
goodness. These are the base classes used to build programs such as the
ever popular WvDial, TunnelVision, FastForward, KWvDial, and retchmail.

Changes: This release offers several minor enhancements to existing
features and a lot of bugfixes. It also includes UniConf 4.2, which is a
vast improvement over UniConf 4.0. Removed from this distribution are the
FAM and sound wrapper classes, because they were unused and unmaintained.

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: The Z-machine Preservation Project is a Java implementation of the
Z-machine (Java version >= 5 is required). The project goal is to provide
a Z-code interpreter in Java that conforms to the standard and is easy to
comprehend, maintain, and extend. Architecturally, it consists of a
Z-machine core system that is independent of a particular user interface
technology. The core system's behaviour is documented and verified through
its test cases.

Changes: The features are now frozen for this version number, and
development will begin for version 0.75. This release implements a
standards-compliant stream model and adds support for Java applets.

[087] - ziproxy 1.5.2
  by Daniel Mealha Cabrita (http://freshmeat.net/users/dancab/)
  Wed, Nov 16th 2005 21:16

Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: ziproxy is a forwarding (non-caching) proxy that gzips text and
HTML files, and reduces the size of images by converting them to low
quality JPEGs. It is intended to increase the speed for dial-up Internet
connections. Most browsers support gzipped content, so Web pages appear as
normal, but as they are only a fraction of their original page size, pages
are much quicker to load. Even for browsers that don't support it, hints
how to overcome it using SSH port forwarding are included. Images are
reduced in size by an average of one third, with only marginal visible
image quality loss. It should be used with inetd/xinetd, but if you can't
use them, a simple replacement "netd" is provided.

Changes: Basic HTTP authentication support was added for the proxy itself.
