[001] - AIM Sniff 1.0
  by Shawn Grimes (http://freshmeat.net/users/grimessh/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 03:52

Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
Security
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: AIM Sniff is a utility for monitoring and archiving AIM and MSN
messages across a network. It can be used to monitor for cases of
harassment or warez trading. It has the ability to do a live dump
(actively sniff the network) or read a PCAP file and parse the file for IM
messages. You also have the option of dumping the information to a MySQL
database or STDOUT. AIM Sniff will also monitor for an IM login and then
perform an SMB lookup on the originating computer in order to match NT
Domain names with IM login names (handles).

Changes: MSN sniffing support was added. The code was modularized for ease
of contribution and protocol development. Support for wireless sniffing was
increased.

  by Joe Kohut (http://freshmeat.net/users/kohutjw/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 16:31

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: apex is a general purpose Web server that was designed with the
busy sysadmin in mind. It runs on both Unix and Windows. It strives to be
simple and concise, yet powerful. It installs a default home page with
customized links based on its single configuration file. It supports basic
authentication to secure access to sensitive links with simple password
protection. It supports both simple, "one command" CGI through its
configuration file and full CGI support with scripting.

[003] - Argyll Color Management System 0.53
  by Graeme Gill (http://freshmeat.net/users/ggill/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 07:38

Multimedia :: Graphics
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Argyll is an experimental ICC-compatible color management system.
It supports accurate ICC profile creation for scanners, CMYK printers,
film recorders, and displays, as well as calibration of displays. Spectral
sample data is supported, allowing a selection of illuminants observer
types and paper fluorescent whitener additive compensation. Profiles can
also incorporate source specific gamut mappings for perceptual and
saturation intents. Gamut mapping and profile linking uses the CIECAM02
appearance model, a unique gamut mapping algorithm. A fast 8-bit raster
color conversion engine is provided along with support for accurate 16-bit
conversion. Device color gamuts can be viewed and compared using a VRML
viewer.

Changes: The main changes in this release are some important bugfixes to
the scattered data interpolation code used in creating CLUT profiles. The
quality of profiles should be noticeably improved. These fixes will affect
profile, icclink (when gamut mapping is being used), and refine. A serious
bug in the default behavior of targen has corrected. CIEDE2000 Delta E
support has been added. Hexagonal test charts can now be printed and read
using the Gretag SpectroScan.

[005] - ATA over Ethernet driver 16 (For Linux 2.6)
  by Ed Cashin at Coraid (http://freshmeat.net/users/ecashinCoraid/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 11:25

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: This driver allows the Linux kernel to use the ATA over Ethernet
(AoE) network protocol. Using AoE, a Linux system can use AoE block
devices like EtherDrive (R) storage blades. The block devices appear as
local device nodes (e.g. /dev/etherd/e0.0).

Changes: The revalidate feature now allows AoE devices to change size,
even when the device is in use, like LVM devices do. The allowed number of
outstanding AoE packets was increased to enhance performance.

[021] - Fuzzy Userprofile IDS v2 0.7-beta
  by Steffen Wendzel (http://freshmeat.net/users/cdpxe/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 11:23

Security
System :: Monitoring

About: fupids2 is a so-called human oriented IDS based on the FUPIDS
project. fupids2 calculates an attacker level for every user on all
Unix/Linux/BSD systems in the network. It looks at the behavior of the
user (the programs the user uses, the daytime the user is active, the
building and room the user uses, the part of the room in which the user
sits, and so on) and reports if the user engages in behavior that is
unusual for that person. This method can often detect accounts overtaken
by attackers.

Software Development

About: GObject Builder (GOB) is a simple preprocessor for easily creating
GObjects (glib objects). It reads a class description file with inline C
code and produces .c and .h object files for you. It allows you to easily
use most of the features of the GObject system and avoids typos by
reducing the amount of code needed. In general, the amount of code is
about the same as for OO languages such as Java or C++, but you still have
to only use C and you get all the power of the GObject system.

Changes: This release fixes libglade support, adds abstract class support,
has better boxed support, and has better spurious rebuild prevention.

About: The Heirloom Development Tools provide yacc, lex, and m4, as
portable derivatives of the utilities released by Sun as part of
OpenSolaris. The OpenSolaris utilities were in turn derived from the
original Unix versions, and are assumed be conforming implementations of
the POSIX standard. Software developed on original Unix systems has quite
often used internals of yacc and lex. The tools in this package provide a
convenient way to make such software compile on free Unix platforms such
as Linux or BSD.

Changes: Shift operators for the "eval" macro are now available in the
traditional version of "m4". Functions for wide character handling that
were missing in the first release have been included in the libl.a library
for "lex".

[036] - ldap2dns 0.3.6
  by Ben Klang (http://freshmeat.net/users/kf4wbx/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 14:03

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking :: LDAP

About: ldap2dns is a program to create DNS records directly from an LDAP
database. It can and should be be used to replace the secondary name
server by a second primary one. ldap2dns helps reduce all kinds of
administration overhead. No more flat file editing, no more zone file
editing. After having installed ldap2dns, the administrator only has to
access the LDAP database. If she desires, she can add access control for
each zone, create a special GUI, or use one of the existing LDAP GUIs and
add all other kind of zone and resource record information without
interfering with the DNS server. ldap2dns is designed to write an ASCII
data file used by tinydns (from the djbdns package), or a zonename.db
-file as used by named.

Changes: This release adds the ability to convert a tinydns formatted data
file into an LDIF format suitable for importing into an LDAP tree. Support
for configuring DNS "views" (a la Bind) is now fully working. Some of the
older code has been deprecated, but is still available in the tarball in
case someone out there is depending on it. The spec file has been updated,
and the Makefile knows how to build RPMS for Red Hat and SuSE.

  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 07:47

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: "O" (uppercase "o") now clears all windows. Saving the scrollback
buffer to a file has been fixed (it would segfault). Counting of matching
regexps now works. The online help has been updated.

[055] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 5.0
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Fri, Dec 16th 2005 23:23

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into
C/C++/Objective-C code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at any
point in a regular language and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel
supports the building of state machines using a named state and associated
transition list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of
its operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.

Changes: Support for the D programming language was added. The interface
between the generated code and the host program was simplified. Ragel no
longer puts generated code in functions, nor does it require that a state
machine be encapsulated in a class or structure. The fbreak action
statement was added. Generated code now immediately breaks out of the
processing loop when an error is encountered. Many improvements were made
to the code generator and the longest match operator. The executable was
split into a frontened which only compiles state machines and a backend
which does code generation.
