  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)

Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: A'Hote is a C++ library for creating color schemes including
complements, split complements, triadics, tetradics, analogous colors,
monochromatic groups, shaded groups, and tinted groups. The color scheme
generators are also overloaded, allowing schemes of schemes to be
generated. There are functions for converting RGB, HSB, HSL, YUV, and RYB.

Changes: The library currently supports generation of the following color
schemes: complements, split-complements, triads, tetrads, analogous
colors, shades, tints, tones, and monochromatics. Other schemes that are
in this release are related to the RGB color wheel including primary,
secondary, and tertiary colors as well as the color wheel itself. Schemes
of schemes can also be created, and classes are provided to easily convert
between HSB, HSL, RGB, and YUV color spaces.

About: Closebracket lets you define multiple shell actions in a single
command to speed up the typing of the most repetitive shell commands. It
includes ']' and '][' commands, which are located near the "Enter" key and
are easy to type quickly. They invoke primary and secondary actions
respectively.

Changes: Support for .torrent files was added. They are opened with
bittorrent and bittorrent-curses if you are on X or in tty respectively.
Support for .pdf files was added. The default action is to open them with
xpdf, or to convert them to HTML and opens them with 'links' if on the
tty. "] user@shell" is now parsed correctly.

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: The rollback capability is easier to use and has several bugs
fixed. File conflict handling is improved. The mirror script has several
bugs fixed. Error messages have been improved in several cases. The cvc
command can now show full build requirements, making it easier to create
chroot environments for building.

[013] - GiNaC 1.3.4
  by Christian Bauer (http://freshmeat.net/users/cebix/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 13:06

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GiNaC (GiNaC is Not a CAS (Computer Algebra System)) is a C++
library for symbolic calculations. It is designed to allow the creation of
integrated systems that embed symbolic manipulations together with more
established areas of computer science (like computation-intense numeric
applications, graphical interfaces, etc.). Contrary to other CASes it does
not try to provide extensive algebraic capabilities and a simple
programming language but instead accepts a given language (C++) and
extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.

Changes: This release improves algebraic substitutions and allows more
general index dimensions. Bugs in the differentiation of powers and in the
has() method have been fixed.

[014] - GNU Denemo 0.75
  by Adam Tee (http://freshmeat.net/users/atee/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 01:37

About: Denemo lets you quickly prepare notation for publishing with
Lilypond. It does not strive to display all notation graphically, or to be
the most complete graphic enviroment. But in concert with LilyPond, it is
an extremely powerful music notation system. It is very keyboard intensive
and relies sparingly on the mouse. As well as exporting to the Lilypond
format, it exports to the ABC notation format.

Changes: The code was moved back to plain C. The keymaps were
reimplemented as XML. MIDI import and Lilypond export was added. Crash
recovery was implemented along with lots of memory leak fixes. A help
manual is now available. CSound export and print functionality were
revised. Blank notes are now displayed in yellow to aid in viewing the
score. Keybindings were provided for inserting time signatures, key
signatures, and clefs.

[016] - GTK Oracle 1.27
  by Colby Farrell (http://freshmeat.net/users/clfarrell/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 01:53

Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: GsqlR2 is a GTK+ 2 interface to Oracle that aids in Oracle
application development and testing. Its features include a schema
browser, multiple SQL work areas, SQL syntax highlighting, bind variable
entry widgets in the command window, and SQL*Plus-style command scripting.
For SQL statement analysis and tuning there is a tree-style SQL statement
"explain plan" facility and the ability to load SQL statements from the
runtime cursor cache (V$SQL table), Oracle Statspack repository, the
Oracle Automatic Workload Repository in Oracle version 10g, and full AWR
reports.

Changes: A preliminary Scheduler interface was added to the schema browser
with support for jobs, job classes, and programs. Its features include job
history browsing, interactive job runs, and job enable/disable. An
execution timer was added to the status bar and partition granularity
levels (global, partition, subpartition) were added to the table and index
partition stats gathering popups. Basic support for retrieving object type
column values in user queries was added.

  by Jens Wilke (http://freshmeat.net/users/jenswilke/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 13:03

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: GTK Photo Gallery is an album to manage small and medium-sized
photograph collections. It allows quick management by processing multiple
files together. Rotate, delete, move, and manage descriptions can be done
for all files in one directory at once. It is possible to upload pictures
to an online laboratory to order prints. GTK Photo Gallery is implemented
with GTK2-Perl, and due to the lack of a Web server in between, it is much
faster than CGI-based scripts. It uses the same directory structure as
(and can be used together with) My Photo Gallery (a set of CGI scripts).
It is possible to export (and import) an Album into 700 MB large parts for
easy CD backup, including static HTML pages to navigate the CD. This can
also be used to create a simple album for the Web.

Changes: This release can set different priorities to the images to show a
selection of an Album. Many shortcuts make work faster. Some bugfixes were
made.

[019] - HTTP extension for PHP 1.0.0RC3
  by Michael Wallner (http://freshmeat.net/users/_mike_/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 13:06

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The HTTP extension for PHP aims to provide a convenient and
powerful set of functionality for one of PHP's major applications. It
eases handling of HTTP URLs, dates, redirects, headers, and messages,
provides means for negotiation of clients' preferred language and charset,
as well as a convenient way to send any arbitrary data with caching and
resuming capabilities. It provides powerful request functionality if built
with CURL support. Parallel requests are available for PHP 5 and greater.

Changes: This release adds a missing http_request() function and a missing
http_request_body_encode() function. It improves the performance of the
message and header parser. It disallows
$HttpMessage->prepend($HttpMessage) causing infinite recursion. It fixes
internal http_parse_headers() always returning success, fixes a missing
"parentMessage" entry in print_r($HttpMessageObject), and fixes a possible
crash if the response does not contain a status message.

only in desktop email clients.

Changes: Message color information is now escaped to protect against
malicious senders. Preferences for the default charset when reading
messages and to define how to expand the folder list in sidebar have been
added. Logins to Exchange and other IMAP servers that propagate wrong
authentication methods have been fixed. Creation of duplicate Virtual
INBOXes and spellcheck on send have been fixed. More small bugfixes and
improvements have been made. The Danish, Dutch, Greek, Estonian, French,
Japanese, and Norwegian translations have been updated.

About: JChart2D is a Swing widget for precise runtime visualization of
numerical tuples in an x-y plot. It is easy to use and is designed for
runtime display. Unlike other charting tools that cover all kinds of views
(pie, bar, etc.), it just creates precise x-y plots. It is thread-safe, in
that many different threads in an application may each add data to plot. A
single chart may contain multiple different traces. It also features
automatic scaling, choice of unit, and setting of ranges that always have
to be included in the plot.

Changes: The version fixes a hard memory leak and some minor bugs,
provides additional popup menu controls, and is licensed under the LGPL
2.1.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The network authentication wrapper library (libnaw) is a modular
authentication library that is meant to be used as a preloadable drop-in
to add a layer of authentication to source-restricted software, as an API
for including authentication into custom or open source software, or as a
library for direct linking into precompiled object files. The use of
loadable modules allows libnaw the flexibility to accomplish any sort of
authentication desired on a per-rule basis.

Changes: This release adds Python bindings and a C-based configuration
parser. Other changes include the dissolution of the RTLD_NEXT
requirement, a translation table to make symbol conflicts unlikely, a
migration to tinycdb (from Dan Bernstein's cdb), and many small
improvements and bugfixes.

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: LibTMCG is a general purpose C++ library for creating secure
electronic card games. The most remarkable feature is the absence of a
trusted third party (TTP), i.e. neither a central game server nor trusted
hardware components are necessary. With the present library there is no
need for an independent referee, because the applied protocols provide a
basic level of confidentiality and fairness by itself. Consequently, the
library is well-suited for peer-to-peer (P2P) environments where no TTP is
available. The corresponding cryptographic problem, actually called "Mental
Poker", has been studied since 1979 by many authors. LibTMCG provides the
first practical implementation of such protocols.

[034] - lx_lib structural memory library 20060226-1
  by ari (http://freshmeat.net/users/edelkind/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 12:36

Software Development :: Libraries

About: lx_lib is a structural C data library designed for security,
functionality, speed, and convenience (in that order). Memory allocation
is handled using structures and may be performed automatically. This
promotes (among other things) more secure programming practices, obviates
the need to traverse a data buffer to find its length, supersedes the
practice of keeping the current allocated amount in a separate variable
or overallocating, and enables strings to contain binary zeroes. Generic
descriptors allow for better buffering practices, hence potentially faster
 reading and writing operations. They also allow for trivial (and fast)
delimiter separation during reads.

Communications
Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management

About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.

MySQL 4.0.24 and above.

  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 13:02

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Sunifdef is a command line tool for simplifying the preprocessor
conditionals in C/C++ source code (#if and related directives) based on
the the user's chosen interpretation of the preprocessor symbols. It is a
more powerful successor to the FreeBSD 'unifdef' tool. Sunifdef is most
useful to developers of constantly evolving products with large code
bases, where preprocessor conditionals are used to configure the feature
sets, APIs or implementations of different releases. In these
environments, the code base steadily accumulates #ifdef-pollution as
transient configuration options become obselete. Sunifdef can largely
automate the recurrent task of purging redundant #if-logic from the code.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. It fixes a memmove() miscalculation
that could cause a segfault in symbol table lookups, and faulty ordering
of symbol table insertions that could cause false negatives for symbol
lookups.

Communications :: File Sharing

About: Sympa is a scalable and highly customizable mailing list software.
It can cope with big lists (780,000 subscribers), and it comes with a
complete Web interface for both the user and the administrator. It is
internationalized. Sites can customize Web and mail templates,
authentication backends, and authorization scenarios. Dynamic mailing
lists can use multiple backends (LDAP, SQL, files, lists, or others).
Sympa is the only S/MIME enabled mailing list software, and it provides
both authentication and encryption.

Changes: Full virtual hosting support. You can now create 2 lists with the
same name in different virtual hosts. Per-list message topics: list members
can select topics and only receive related messages. VERP (Variable Envelop
Return Path) for bounce management. SQLite is now supported. Performance
optimization for sites using large numbers of lists. A huge translation
update (Swedish, Greek, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, and Norwegian).
Shibboleth support has been extended to allow email address confirmation.
An auth.conf file can be defined for each virtual host.

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

[065] - Unimaginatively-named Calendar 3.7.0
  by Sam Clippinger (http://freshmeat.net/users/samc_silence_org/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 13:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Unimaginatively-named Calendar is a Web calendar application
written in Java with a MySQL database. Calendars can be made private,
semi-private, or public with a password-protected admin section.
Subscriptions can be created to pull events from remote iCalendar sources
and, of course, Sunbird and iCal users can subscribe. The display is easy
to read and prints very well; its design is controllable using
(customizable) themes that can also be used to filter events. Repeating
events are supported, and single events can be scheduled at multiple
arbitrary times (even if they don't form a pattern).

Changes: This version adds the ability to import events from remote
iCalendar sources using a subscription system. Subscriptions are
automatically updated periodically (set when the the subscription is
created). Subscriptions can fetch from HTTPS URLs and provide a
username/password if the remote source requires basic authentication.
Semi-private calendars are now possible (an anonymous visitor sees only
the scheduled times, not the event details). The admin can now tune how
much information is logged. Numerous bugfixes and minor tweaks are also
included.

About: Ump is a program in which all sorts of calculations can be done,
from the simplest to the more advanced. It handles complex numbers and
matrices of those. The complex numbers are built up by either floating
point values or ratios of arbitrary sized integers. Ump also draws graphs,
ordinary, polar, and parameter, which is done through an easy to use user
interface. It's also possible to write your own functions using the built
in editor.

Changes: An easy way to calculate the derivate, integral, and length
graphical was added. There is a new and faster parser for the Ump code.
There are speed improvements when dealing with small integers (below
4,294,967,296). Various speed and memory fixes for plotting in 2D and 3D.
A faster divide algorithm for big integers. Some bugfixes and code
cleanups.

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: WFF is a simple application that binds HTML forms to a database. It
analyzes the HTML file you supply and identifies all the common input types
it contains, including text fields, drop down lists, checkboxes, radio
buttons, and text areas. Once all the input types have been detected, it
then performs some validation tests that ensures that enough information
is contained within the HTML form to allow the program to bind the inputs
properly. It then generates the required backend PHP code and returns the
form back to the you in a zip file.

[070] - xjobs 20060413
  by Thomas Maier-Komor (http://freshmeat.net/users/komor/)
  Thu, Apr 13th 2006 12:58

System
Utilities

About: xjobs runs several jobs in parallel and limits the number of jobs
running at once so that every processor of the machine is busy, but not
overloaded. A batch of long-running processes invoked from the shell are
normally executed one after another, no matter how many processors are
available. xjobs allows batching those jobs while still keeping the
machine busy. The interface of xjobs is similar to that of xargs.

Changes: A dramatic increase in performance (x10 spawning speed of jobs).
An option has been added for queue length limitation, and there is a minor
fix for an issue that could cause cluttered output.
