[003] - Beesoft Commander 2.20
by PiotrPsz (http://freshmeat.net/users/PiotrPsz/)
Sun, Apr 30th 2006 07:55
About: Beesoft Commander is a file manager (like Norton Commander) for
Linux. It is based on Qt-GUI.
Changes: Every panel can contain many tabs that show different
directories. Ctrl+T (or right position in the menu) creates a new tab in
the current panel, Ctrl+W (or right position in the menu) deletes the
current tab from the current panel, and Ctrl+Enter opens a new tab for the
chosen directory. The combination of keys for 'searcher' has been changed,
and is now Ctrl+F7 (Alt+F7 is already used by GNOME). The combination of
keys to create a new file has been changed to Ctrl+N (Ctrl+T is now used
for creating a new tab in a panel). There is a position in the menu for
changing panel places.

Sun, Apr 30th 2006 00:23
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3
About: Cymbaline is a learning music player. It sets a score for each
track based on your listening habits, and you can set thresholds to create
playlists with your favorite tracks automatically. In random mode, it will
play your favorite tracks more often. It also allows album-based
navigation: you can start playing the next album, skip 2 albums ahead, go
to a specific album, etc. It has a random queue mode where you see a list
of randomly chosen tracks that play consecutively. The queue is also built
based on song scores.
Changes: This release fixes a bug that created a skip in sound when
turning on random queue mode or starting a new track in random mode. It
also fixes a bug that sometimes corrupted the display when exiting from
cymbaline and the bug that crashed cymbaline when the window was made too
narrow. The "o" command, which finds the next high-scored track, was fixed
and re-added. It was enabled in random queue mode as well.

[030] - Magellan Metasearch 1.4.2
by badibouzouk (http://freshmeat.net/users/badibouzouk/)
Sun, Apr 30th 2006 12:26

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management
About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.
Changes: This release enhances the automated parsing mechanism; the engine
now remembers the path to search results within the HTML pages so that it
doesn't get fooled with small result sets. Moreover, new virtual sources
are automatically tested on creation / update to check their validity.

About: The Mobile Device Information project is a Java Swing application
that provides desktop interface access to the WURFL (Wireless Universal
Resource FiLe). The WURFL contains information about the capabilities of a
huge number of wireless devices. The Mobile Device Information project
allows users to search for individual devices, or devices that meet
certain criteria, e.g. "Which Nokia phones are MIDP-2.0 enabled and
support at least 65536 colours?"
Changes: Performance improvements were made for internal device searching.
The product ID was added to the Device tab. A new option to add all search
results to the Comparison table was added. Additions were made to the
Comparison tab to allow all devices to be removed, to export to CSV, and
to improve image identification.

Sun, Apr 30th 2006 00:06
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking
About: nss-mdns is a plugin for the GNU Name Service Switch (NSS)
functionality of the GNU C Library (glibc) which provides host name
resolution via Multicast DNS (a.k.a. Zeroconf, a.k.a. Apple Rendezvous,
a.k.a Apple Bonjour). This effectively allows name resolution by common
Unix/Linux programs in the ad-hoc mDNS domain .local.
Changes: A build time option was added to disable "legacy unicast" mDNS
requests, meaning that requests will resolve exclusively with Avahi. A
special "minimal" flavor of the shared objects was built to minimize
unnecessary name lookup timeouts. IPv6 resolving when using Avahi was
fixed.

About: OVal is a generic Java 5 based object validation framework that
uses annotations to express constraints and AspectJ to handle automatic
validation (programming by contract). It supports validation of class
fields as well as constructor and method parameters.
Changes: A problem in which validation of inherited classes throws
NullPointerException was fixed. Support for localizable error messages and
support for parameters in constraint violation messages were added. New
constraints can now be specified during runtime. The ApiUsageAuditor
aspect was added, which reports warnings about unsupported usage of
annotations in Eclipse IDE. The instantiation of checks for constraint
annotations is now customizable via net.sf.oval.AnnotationCheckLoader.

About: pflogx is a simple tool that exports OpenBSD packet filter logs to
XML files. It reads a binary log file generated by the pf logging daemon
(pflogd) and generates a human-readable and exploitable XML file. Using an
XSLT processor you can convert this XML file to any other format, such as
HTML, CSV, or SQL.
Changes: The "-m" option was added to merge new events with already
existing events in the output XML file. (This requires the Expat XML
Parser.) A DTD describing the format of the output XML file was added. The
program was ported to FreeBSD 6.0 and NetBSD 3.0. The "-n" option to define

Software Development :: Code Generators
About: PHP Object Generator (POG) is a PHP code generator which generates
clean and tested object oriented code for your PHP4/PHP5 application. It
is meant to eliminate the time a PHP programmer often wastes on repetitive
coding of the database access layer of an application simply because
different applications require different objects. By generating PHP
objects with integrated CRUD methods, POG saves you from writing and
testing SQL queries.
Changes: The main new feature is the introduction of functionality to mass
update all objects to the latest POG version. A few other minor
improvements were made. The PHP version was added to @version in the
phpdoc header. The POG version and PHP version were added to the database
class. Some minimal input checking, a favicon, a geourl, and a link to the
pog documentation in the pog setup were added. The explanation text in pog
setup was improved. Some hooks related to SOAP and zip file were added.

Changes: Writing query results in JSON was added. Writing queries was
added allowing rasqal to turn RDQL into SPARQL. SPARQL syntax support was

It does not require Microsoft Windows, but can use native Windows DLLs if
they are available. It provides both a development toolkit for porting
Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many
unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes.
Changes: A new Winelib Internet Explorer application. Several improvements
to the font support. More work on the IDL compiler. Faster drawing of the
cards dll. A number of fixes for issues found by the Coverity code
checker. Many bugfixes.

by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)

Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.
Changes: Some errata from previous fixes. This release corrects the type
for the utf8Title resource. It adds the utf8Latin1 resource to limit the
scope of a special case for font resources.
