[003] - AntiDialer 0.1
  by Siddhesh Poyarekar (http://freshmeat.net/users/theprogman/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 21:31

Internet
Utilities

About: AntiDialer is a QT-based broadband dialer for Sify Broadband users
in India. It has features comparable to the Sify Windows dialer, such as
password saving and autologin. Now Sify users no longer have to depend
upon the old default dialer provided by Sify.

Changes: From now on, this software will be released in three forms:
source tarball, Deb package, and RPM package. The code was completely
rewritten to remove the Qt dependant elements from the core. A primary
console based interface was added. A plugin interface was created to allow
feature implementation in the form of separate plugin libraries. A GUI
plugin based on Qt is included. The heartbeat feature was removed, since
it is useless unless you want a tray icon alive all the time.

  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 09:23

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.

Changes: An issue where a certain set of parameters to spamd and a
specially formatted input message could allow users to execute arbitrary
commands as the spamd user has been fixed. An issue where the userstate
directory and preference file weren't being created under certain
conditions has been fixed.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: In Armagetron, you ride a lightcycle around the game grid. You can
only make sharp turns of 90 degrees and a wall constantly builds up after
you. Make your enemies crash into your wall, but be aware that they are
trying to do the same to you. If you are fast enough, you may be able to
trap them, but the only way to speed up your lightcycle is to drive close
to the dangerous walls. Prepare for exciting strategic preparations
followed by action-packed close combat!

Changes: Some smaller improvements and bugfixes went into this release.
Console and chat now have a history function, spectators are now visible
to other players and can chat and be kicked, and team management has been
sanitized a bit.

System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.

Changes: Additional workarouds for Linux Kernel self incompatibilities
were added to libscg. A bug that caused cdrecord to ignore DVD+R/DL media
was fixed. Drives that do not support the metering of DMA speed are worked
around. The physical drive buffer size if printed if different from the
logical buffer size. Workarounds were included for NEC firmware bugs that
caused cdrecord not to write at the maximum DVD speed and to assume small
DVD+RW media sizes. cdda2wav now compiles on Linux, Cygwin, and FreeBSD.

[015] - Conary 1.0.18
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 14:28

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release has multiple enhancements in entitlement management.
In particular, the built-in repository Web administration interface now has
entitlement support.

  by Marcin Kurzawa (http://freshmeat.net/users/marcink/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 10:25

Communications
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Conferencing

About: CryptoHeaven offers secure email and online file sharing/storage.
Its main features are secure and highly encrypted services such as group
collaboration, file sharing, email, online storage, and instant messaging.
It integrates multi-user based security into email, instant messaging, and
file storage and sharing in one unique package. It provides real time
communication for text and data transfers in a multi-user secure
environment. The security and usability of CryptoHeaven is well-balanced;
even the no-so-technically oriented computer users can enjoy this crypto
product with very high level of encryption.

Changes: Role-based access control (RBAC) has been implemented. The
addition of user groups allows a system administrator to assign privileges
to groups such as Sales or Accounting, and to add users to those groups.
RBAC greatly reduces the amount of administrative effort required to add
or delete system users.

  by DG (http://freshmeat.net/users/DirkGeschke/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 02:22

Communications :: Email
Database
Security

About: FLoP is designed to gather alerts with payload from distributed
snort sensors on a central server and to store them in a database
(PostgreSQL and MySQL are supported). On the sensor, the output is written
to a process called sockserv. This process is threaded; one thread receives
and buffers the alert packets, and the other thread forwards them to a
central server. The output is decoupled from snort, which can proceed in
sniffing instead of waiting for the output plugins. At the central server,
a process called servsock gathers all alerts from the remote sensors and
feeds them to the database. A short description of alerts with high
priority together with the database ID can be sent via email to a list of
recipients.

Changes: Several checks were added, the alert data from Snort got a tag,
and a restart of Snort is now checked. getpacket now has base 64 support.
The statistics are now generated via the control thread so some signals
are no longer necessary. The exit handler was rewritten and a cache for
signatures was added. This cache can accelerate the insert rate by up to a
factor of two and is implemented as a red black tree. During runtime, the
only SELECT statement is for the signature ID, and all other operations
are INSERT statements. The idea is to cache all signatures that caused an
alert.

  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 00:01

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom input control plug-in
classes. AJAX based form submission, automatic vertical layout renderer,
Calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world location selection, and linked
select plug-in controls are available.

Changes: The map location custom input was enhanced to support features
like hiding of selected location marker or coordinates, display of
additional markers with custom information windows and link URL, and
adjustment of the zoom level to fit a given bounding box or fit all
visible markers. The generation of the map location JavaScript was fixed
to avoid crashing the Internet Explorer browser. The main forms class now
has functions to generate JavaScript for the page loading and unloading
events, and also to set properties of custom inputs on the browser side.

[032] - Java Parallel Processing Framework 0.18.0
  by Laurent Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/lolocohen/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 10:19

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Java Parallel Processing Framework is a set of tools and APIs to
facilitate the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and
distribute their execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It is
intended to run in clusters and grids. It features platform independence
thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your application
classes to a server, scales up to thousands of nodes, has a built-in
fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: A major bug was fixed where the server would throw a
ClassCastException. Nodes now check their up-to-date status as soon as
they connect to the server. The persistence of the preferences in the
admin tool was dramatically improved. The JPPF client now provides a
non-blocking, asynchronous way of submitting tasks. The admin tool was
refactored so that most visual components are built from XML descriptors.
Using this framework, developers can now easily build their own customized
admin tool. A UI was added to fine-tune the behaviour of the bundle size
auto-tuning mechanism.

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: JGraphpad Pro is a complete application framework for rapid
development of JGraph tools. It is meant for developers who wish to
provide a stand-alone, rich-client graph application. The user interface
is configurable with XML and it uses a plugin architecture for extra
functionality. It features a wide range of application components like
palette, overview, the ability to export to many image and XML formats,
copy and paste, drag and drop, rich text labels, database or backend
connectivity, and visual complexity management. You can use it to create
workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams, database
visualization tools, and more.

Changes: This release synchronizes the underlying JGraph libraries and
provides various bugfixes. The hierarchical layout was improved. The
compact tree layout ordering was corrected. A simple filter was added for
determining which vertices are to be laid out in each layout. The parallel
edge router now positions labels correctly on the parallel edges and
correctly promotes edges when groups are collapsed. Also, a problem with
garbage collection of memory after XOR painting has been improved as a
workaround to a bug in the Apple JVM.

About: The PreludeDB Library provides an abstraction layer upon the type
and format of the database used to store IDMEF alerts. It allows
developers to use the Prelude IDMEF database easily and efficiently
without worrying about SQL, and to access the database independently of
the type/format of the database.

Changes: A possible problem with PostgreSQL insertion of AdditionalData
was fixed. Reading of message_processing_model, security_model, and
security_level was implemented. Handling of community members is now
deprecated (IDMEF version 16 update). A bug where Service->ip_version
would not be read from the database was fixed. Upon connection to a
PostgreSQL database, the default date style is now set to ISO. This is
required because libpreludedb assumes ISO format when parsing database
timestamps. Error reporting improvements were made.

  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 14:21

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: Plait (pronounced "play") is a command-line jukebox and music
player front end. It understands brief, easy to type queries that pick a
single song, mix queries that combine works from multiple artists, and
stream queries that find Shoutcast radio streams. A variety of filters are
available to pick just the music you want to hear. In order to actually
play the music it finds, Plait automatically hands off a playlist to one
of the supported music players, or creates a playlist that you can
manually load.

Changes: This release contains minor feature enhancements and bugfixes.
Error handling is now more robust when the music directory is offline. In
this situation, you can still build playlists and play radio streams
without receiving any error messages. Interactive mode can now handle
filenames containing certain regular expression special characters. A new
option, '--platform,' allows you to override the default platform for the
scope of a single 'plait' command.

[064] - Rats! 1.8.0
  by Robert Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgrimmm/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 16:49

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (though currently
it only generates parsers in Java). It has been designed so that grammars
are concise and easily extensible. To this end, grammars are organized
into modules that can be easily changed by adding, removing, or modifying
alternatives in individual productions and composed with each other
through module parameters. Furthermore, it relies on ordered choices to
avoid ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead,
and integrates lexing with parsing. Finally, it has extensive support for
automatically generating abstract syntax trees, thus greatly reducing the
need for explicit semantic actions.

Changes: This release improves the performance of Rats!-generated parsers
by enabling more optimizations. It improves the included C and Java
grammars by generating better-structured ASTs. It includes significant
improvements to the included framework for building language tools, with a
particular focus on facilitating semantic analysis. It provides the basis
for the experimental results reported in the PLDI paper "Better
Extensibility through Modular Syntax".

  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 14:29

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The bas (basic interpreter) example program was improved to
support exit statements. A tiny bug in the panic example program was
fixed. The hi interpreter was improved to write a stack trace when an
exception is not caught.

[070] - shadow 4.0.16
  by kloczek (http://freshmeat.net/users/kloczel/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 08:23

System :: Systems Administration

About: The Shadow password file utilities package includes the programs
necessary to convert traditional V7 UNIX password files to the SVR4 shadow
password format, and additional tools to maintain password and group files
(that work with both shadow and non-shadow passwords).

Changes: A better fix was made for the old CERT VU#312962 bug in userdel.
userdel now uses login.defs::MAIL_DIR instead of a hardcoded value of
/var/mail. userdel was rewritten to use getopt_log(), and nscd is properly
notified to flush its cache. passwd and login now use the system's
getpass() function instead libshadow_getpass(). pgck and grpck produce a
warning when the members of a group differ in /etc/groups and
/etc/gshadow. In login, the login timeout is cancelled after
authentication. chgpasswd was fixed to build correctly with
--disable-shadowgrp. Many updates and cleanups were done in the man pages.

About: Strasheela is a highly expressive constraint-based music
composition system. Users declaratively state a music theory and the
computer generates music which complies with this theory. A theory is
formulated as a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) by a set of rules
(constraints) applied to a music representation in which some aspects are
expressed by variables (unknowns). Music constraint programming is
style-independent and is well-suited for highly complex theories (e.g. a
fully-fledged theory of harmony). Results can be output into various

  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 14:19

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Stunnix Perl Web Server is an advanced Web server developed for
writing browser-based applications and database-driven catalogues or
presentations that reside on CDROM or DVD, internally implemented as
Perl-driven or PHP-driven Web sites that store data in a database also
located on CDROM. It produces a single CD that works on Windows, Mac OS X,
and Linux/x86, without requiring any additional software on the user's
computer. All an author needs to do to build a cross-platform
browser-based application or CDROM is to copy scripts to their proper
directories. HTML::Mason and mod_perl-like execution modes are supported
for Perl-driven Web sites.

Changes: This version fixes a severe bug with copying of database files
from CDs to the HDD. The Web site splash screen stays on the screen until
the database server, Web server, and browser are started. A sample
Joomla-based site has been added to the trial CD, as well as a guide on
how to install Joomla from scratch. CDBuilder has tooltips for most form
controls.

About: Suite-C Web is a collection of modules for Drupal that allow a
church to manage itself and communicate with its memebers. It currently

prayer requests and later mark requests as "answered" (or no longer
relevant), which filters the request from the list of current prayer
requests. Prayer requests can be marked as for the pastor's eyes only, for

[076] - Sunifdef 1.0.1
  by Mike Kinghan (http://freshmeat.net/users/imkinghan/)
  Tue, Jun 6th 2006 14:22

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Sunifdef is a command line tool for simplifying the preprocessor
conditionals in C/C++ source code (#if and related directives) based on
the the user's chosen interpretation of the preprocessor symbols. It is a
more powerful successor to the FreeBSD 'unifdef' tool. Sunifdef is most
useful to developers of constantly evolving products with large code
bases, where preprocessor conditionals are used to configure the feature
sets, APIs or implementations of different releases. In these
environments, the code base steadily accumulates #ifdef-pollution as
transient configuration options become obselete. Sunifdef can largely
automate the recurrent task of purging redundant #if-logic from the code.

Changes: This is a spit-and-polish point release to qualify the package
for Feodora Extras inclusion. There are no fixes or features for sunifdef,
but it now builds clean with -Wall. Superfluous content has been removed
from the package. The test driver, test_sunifdef, now takes evasive action
for some pitfalls encountered in Wine and Cygwin emulator environments.
Binary and source RPMS are provided.

About: Zenoss is an enterprise network/systems management application that
provides an integrated software package for monitoring availability,
performance, events, and configuration across layers (network, servers,
applications, environment, etc.) and across platforms (Linux, Windows,
Unix, etc.).

Changes: The major new feature is native SNMP performance collection and a
major reorganization of the installer program (which now uses make). There
are lots of other smaller fixes as well.

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: smf-zombie is a Sendmail filter designed to reject spam and viruses
from zombie PCs. This filter blocks up to 90% of the mail sent by
spam/virus engines, checks the sender's IP address with a reliable RBL
(cbl.abuseat.org), safely rejects "alien" bounces without violating any
RFC, rejects messages for undisclosed recipients, and rejects harmful
attachments to prevent a virus from spreading. This filter aims to be
lightweight, reliable, and simple.

Changes: A workaround for the Sendmail socket unsafe error on some
platforms was implemented. A bug with the greeting pause code under
FreeBSD was fixed. Configuration file, default user, and working directory
were changed. The format of log records was changed. Some samples of
start-up scripts were added. New TODO tasks were added. Cosmetic
enhancements were made.
