[001] - Aurox Live-Generator 2.0
by Jakub Wojnowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/Aurox/)
Fri, Jun 9th 2006 08:10
About: Aurox Live-Generator is an integrated pack of scripts for building
LiveCDs based on Aurox Linux. The user must fill in the config file (for
custom wallpaper, bootsplash, etc.) located in the main Live-Generator
directory and run 'generate-live'. It creates a base Aurox installation in
the specified directory, and installs custom packages listed in the config
file). It uses Yum to download packages from repositories. Scripts prepare
a custom home directory with specified settings. mksquashfs compresses the
root directory to an img file, and mkisofs creates the final ISO file.
Changes: This release works with Aurox 12.

by John Ogness (http://freshmeat.net/users/jogness/)
Fri, Jun 9th 2006 16:32
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels
About: Dazuko provides a device driver allowing 3rd-party (userland)
applications to execute file access control. It was originally developed
by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH to allow on-access virus scanning. Other uses
include a file-access monitor/logger or external security implementations.
It operates by intercepting file access calls and passing the file
information to a 3rd-party application. The 3rd-party application then has
the opportunity to tell the device driver to allow or deny the file access.
The 3rd-party application also receives information about the access event,
such as accessed file, type of access, process id, and user id.
Changes: This release simplifies building and installing Dazuko for
various Linux 2.6 kernels and supports the latest Linux 2.6 LSM API
(2.6.17).

analysis, does not make it any easier to find the concealed information. It
also provides a framework for implementing other steganography algorithms
for use in the tool.

GUI to crash.

About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of
diskless machines.
Changes: This release adds some minor features and configuration options.
It fixes problems with the previous release running under Mac OS X and
OpenBSD. The Spanish translation has been updated.

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System Kernels
About: The HelenOS project is an effort to develop a working operating
system. HelenOS supports SMP, multitasking, and multithreading on 32-bit
and 64-bit, little-endian and big-endian processor architectures, among
which are AMD64/EM64T (x86-64), IA-32, IA-64 (Itanium), 32-bit MIPS,
32-bit PowerPC, and SPARC V9. The extent to which these architectures are
supported differs from architecture to architecture. Some run on real
hardware, and some run only in a simulator.
Changes: This release fixes many bugs and adds new functionality to the
kernel and userspace. The kernel supports graceful task destruction and
cleanup, and contains reworked memory sharing and asynchronous IPC. The
userspace layer was extended with textual and graphical framebuffer and
console services. BSD Tetris has been ported to demonstrate the userspace
capabilities of HelenOS. The AMD-64, IA-32, IA-64, MIPS-32, and PPC-32
ports are roughly equal in functionality. It comes with official
documentation.

About: OWFS (One Wire Filesystem) allows easy control of the 1-Wire bus
under Linux. The bus can either be viewed in a Web browser (OWHTTPD) or as
files (OWFS). This makes manipulating the 1-wire devices easy with shell
scripts, Perl, C, and other programming languages. 1-Wire devices are
intriguing chips made by Dallas Semi. They are cheap, uniquely numbered,
and take minimal wiring to connect (a data/power line and ground are all
that's required. Chip functions include memory, switches, counters, and
sensors of temperature and voltage.
Changes: This release supports remote operation with OWSERVER, supports
more adapters (usb, i2c, serial, network), and adds an anonymous FTP
server mode.

About: papyrus is a 2D C++ scenegraph (canvas) library that utilizes the
cairo library to perform drawing operations. In this respect, it is
similar in concept to the Gnome::Canvas library.
Changes: This release features many changes to both papyrus and the
accompanying papyrusgtk library, including several new Gtkmm widgets. In
papyrus, some of the newest changes are that the methods for adding
markers to lines have changed, and all papyrus objects now provide a
virtual clone() method. In papyrusgtk, there are many new widgets, such as
graphical button boxes for selecting line caps and line joins. Also new are
line style and marker style widgets, and both provide the user with
optional previews.

About: PayPal Wifi PrePaid integrates with Chillispot and FreeRADIUS and
PayPal. This package allows the customer to choose how much time they wish
to purchase, processes the payment with PayPal, then creates their username
and password automatically, and updates the SQL radius tables with the
proper credentials and time. This script is easy to setup, but the user
must have knowledge of Chillispot, provide their own login page, have a
PayPal account, and have FreeRADIUS setup to read from MySQL.

Text Processing
About: pg_collkey is a wrapper to use the collation functions of the ICU
library with a PostgreSQL database server. Using this wrapper, you can
specify the desired locale for sorting UTF-8 strings directly in the SQL
query, rather than setting it during database installation. Default
Unicode collation (DUCET) is supported. You can select whether punctuation
should be a primary collation attribute or not. The level of comparison can
be limited (in order to ignore accents, for example). Numeric sequences of
strings can be recognized, so that 'test2' sorts before 'test10'. This
library is dependent on ICU.

About: Swift is a library for sending email messages from PHP Web sites
and applications. It does not rely on PHP's native mail() function (which
is known for using high server resources when sending multiple email
messages). Instead, it communicates directly with an SMTP server or an MTA
binary to send mail quickly and efficiently. It features custom headers,
multiple encoding options, TLS support, embedded images, building and
sending multipart messages, fast Cc and Bcc handling, batching messages
with or without multiple "To"s, support for multiple attachments, setting
message priorities, requesting read receipts, pluggable SMTP
Authentication (LOGIN, PLAIN, MD5-CRAM, POP Before SMTP), anti-flooding
support (reconnect every X email messages ), secure Socket Layer
connections (SSL), and loadable plugin support with event handling
features.
