[001] - Achievo ATK 5.6.0
  by Ivo Jansch (http://freshmeat.net/users/ivoibs/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 14:27

Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management

About: Achievo ATK is an object oriented Web-application framework. It is
targeted at developers who wish to focus on business logic instead of
coding HTML. Where other application frameworks mainly provide a large set
of utility classes, ATK provides a complete framework that requires only
small amounts of code to get usable applications, while maintaining full
flexibility. In other words, even 10 lines of code get you a working
application, but everything that is generated for you can be completely
customized.

Changes: Five new attributes were added (from a simple attribute for
manipulating URLs to a calculator that can perform arbitrary calculations
on other attributes, as well as an attribute that can turn any other
attribute into an internationalised data field). A new 'shuttle' relation
was added. A 't3skin' theme was added (a Typo3 4.0 look for integrating
ATK applications into a Typo3 environment). An AJAX-based data structure
search functionality and an atkMessageQueue were added. Over 140
improvements and fixes were made.

  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 10:41

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, intrusion detection and
prevention, portscan detection, content filtering, virus detection for
email and Web traffic, whitelists and blacklists, IPSec and PPTP VPN
tunneling, spam blocking, proxies for HTTP, FTP, SMTP, DNS, VoIP, SOCKS,
and Ident, logging, and reporting. The WebAdmin and Up2Date service make
it easy to install, manage, and update.

Changes: This Up2Date introduces two new features and 19 bugfixes. The new
features are support for USB sticks for backup file installation during
bootup, and port 80 support for the Surf Protection database connect.

[003] - Axiomatic Multi-Platform C 1.4.4
  by napi (http://freshmeat.net/users/napi/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 02:04

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C compiler suite with an IDE
that generates Java bytecode (Java class files) to produce platform
independent applications. This is for Write Once Run Anywhere (WORA) with
C. AMPC supports a very large subset of ANSI C (1989). It can be used to
develop new applications using C as well as port existing applications
written in C to run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface)
feature is available for calling native C or C++ functions. Also, numerous
Java methods can be called from AMPC. The asm() directive can be used to
embed Jasmin assembly code within C source code.

Changes: A bug found in array declaration has been rectified.

[004] - Bacula 1.38.10
  by Lev_Arris (http://freshmeat.net/users/LevArris/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 07:14

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup,
recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different
computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient
and relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage
management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged
files.

Changes: This is a primarily a bugfix release. The bconsole "reload"
command should now work properly in virtually all situations. An untested
fix was made to eliminate the scheduling problems during sudden clock
shifts. The manual is now released under the GNU Free Documentation
License (FDL). A race condition on dual processor machines was fixed.
Other fixes were made.

  by William Park (http://freshmeat.net/users/opengeometry/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 01:54

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash shell. In the main core, it adds
the following syntax: {a..b}; ${var|...}; then-else-fi to
for/while/until/case statements; try-block with string exception; <&lt+;
and, <<<<. As builtin, it adds the following: sscanf(3), <string.h>,
<ctype.h> wrappers; array, regex(3), stack, queue operations; GDBM,
SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL database interfaces; HTML template engine
(BASP); Expat XML parser interface; x-y char plot; DOS, CSV, Awk support;
Libwebserver interface; RPN calculator with <math.h> functions; and, GTK+2
interface for GUI dialog.

Changes: A common modulus-10 method of checking a credit card number has
been added. Also, the "vcat" command will write a variable to stdout,
which is the converse of the "strcopy" and "strcat" commands.

  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 10:41

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Screen Capture

About: Browsershots is a system for automatically capturing screenshots of
Web pages in a variety of browsers and making these images available to the
public. Its goal is to make it easier to test the compatibility of Web
pages with a variety of browsers. The system distributes the work of
making screenshots among community members. Anyone can add URLs to the job
queue on a central server.

Changes: This is a very early Technology Preview release. The software has
been rewritten completely since version 0.2.6. There is some basic
functionality, but many things don't work yet. The most important changes:
PostgreSQL 8.1 replaces MySQL 4.0, the factory interface is now based on
XML-RPC rather than plain HTTP, and the license has been changed from GNU
GPL 2.0 to the Apache License 2.0. Multi-page merging is now performed on
the screenshot factories with a quick and robust hash-based algorithm in
pure Python.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary

About: Bumblebee is a system for managing instruments and other resources
(e.g. analytical equipment) that must be shared between a number of users.
Bumblebee is designed to be more efficient than a wall calendar or a
whiteboard for both users and administrators. Bumblebee is also able to
generate reports of resource usage with breakdowns by user, research
group, and research project.

Changes: This is a minor upgrade. It includes minor bugfixes to the user
interface. This release is backwards compatible with all previous public
releases.

[009] - cromfs 1.2.0
  by Bisqwit (http://freshmeat.net/users/Bisqwit/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 07:14

System :: Filesystems

About: Cromfs is a compressed read-only filesystem for Linux. Cromfs is
intended for permanently archiving gigabytes of big files that have a lot
of redundancy. It is more aimed at heavy compression than at a light
fingerprint. It uses the lzma compression algorithm from 7-zip.

Changes: This release changes the filesystem format slightly so that the
root directory and inode locators are also compressed. A new program,
cvcromfs, has been added to convert existing volumes to the new format or
the other way around. This is not necessarily needed, because old volumes
can be mounted by the new version as well.

[010] - curl and libcurl 7.15.4
  by Daniel Stenberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/bagder/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 07:33

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries

About: curl and libcurl is a tool for transferring files using URL syntax.
It supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, TFTP, DICT, TELNET, LDAP, FILE, and
GOPHER, as well as HTTP-post, HTTP-put, cookies, FTP upload, resumed
transfers, passwords, portnumbers, SSL certificates, Kerberos, and
proxies. It is powered by libcurl, the client-side URL transfer library.
There are bindings to libcurl for over 30 languages and environments.

Changes: Support was added for NTLM2 session response, clearing session
cookies, FTP line ending conversions with FTP ASCII, EBCDIC to ASCII
conversions. Numerous bugs were fixed, including md5-sess with Digest,
TFTP problems, errno outputs on Windows, zlib streams without headers, and
more.

[011] - DVBStreamer 0.3
  by Adam Charrett (http://freshmeat.net/users/charrea6/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 02:32

Multimedia :: Video :: Capture

About: DVBStreamer is a console application for streaming an entire DVB
service over UDP. It differs from other DVB streaming applications by the
use of the DVB-SI to work out the PIDs to stream and correctly streams
services that use a separate PCR PID.

Changes: Command completion was added. Automatic service addition and
removal was implemented; new services are automatically added to the
database, and services that are no longer signaled in the PAT are removed.
SDT processing was added, and can now get and update services names. The
service filter and PAT/PMT handling were refactored so the PAT and PMT
processor now only processes the incoming PAT/PMT, and the service filter
actually does the PAT rewrite. DVB-S/C support was added. A bug in cache.c
when PAT version changed was fixed. Several patches were merged in.

About: ecp (extended cp) is intended to be a feature rich version of the
coreutils tool cp. Currently it is far from portable, far from optimal,
and far from being very feature rich. What it does do is the following:
display progress indication as it copies (on a per-file basis), copy to

System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based

About: FunionFS is a union filesystem for the FUSE driver that allows a
small read-write filesystem to be superimposed on read-only media such as
a CD-ROM. It is useful for live CD distributions or systems storing files
in a PROM or a compressed filesystem such as CRAMFS.

Changes: This is a bug correction release. This version replaces the 0.4
one, which has many flaws. A new feature allows you to change the suffix
for deleted files. With this enhancement, you could overlap several
funionfs mounts.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet

About: Geoserver is a fully functional WFS-T and WMS server that follows
the OGC open standards. You can publish data as maps/images (using the
WMS), as actual data (using the WFS), and allow users to update, delete,
and insert features (using the WFS-T). GeoServer's focus is ease of use
and support for open standards, in order to enable anyone to quickly share
their geospatial information in an interoperable way. It is built as a thin
layer on top of the excellent GeoTools2 GIS toolkit, and includes a
STRUTs-based Web administration interface for easy configuration.

Changes: The major feature enhancement for this release is superior
support for KML/KMZ. GeoServer can now be a server for Google Earth, from
any of the existing data formats. Features include streaming KML/KMZ, the
ability for users to configure return of Placemarks or Ground overlay
based on, and a built-in 'reflector' to make WMS easily available as a
Network Link. There is also an added SLD editor to make it easier to style
a map. Improvements have also been made for speed, passing more of the
rendering infrastructure back to the database, as this release has been
upgraded to GeoTools 2.2.x.

  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 13:14

Software Development :: Libraries

About: GNU Portable Threads (Pth) is a very portable POSIX/ANSI-C based
library for Unix platforms providing non-preemptive priority-based
scheduling for multiple threads of execution ("multithreading") inside
server applications. All threads run in the same address space, but each
thread has its own individual program-counter, run-time stack, signal mask
and errno variable. The scheduling is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the
threads are dispatched based on priority and pending events. The event
facility allows threads to wait until various types of events occur,
including pending I/O on filedescriptors, elapsed timers, pending I/O on
message ports, thread and process termination, and even customized
callback functions.

Changes: The build environment has been upgraded from GNU shtool 2.0.3 to
2.0.6 and from GNU libtool 1.5.20 to 1.5.22. This release lets
AC_CHECK_PTH use "pth-config --libs --all" instead of just "pth-config
--libs" to allow it to work under platforms like Solaris where additional
libraries are required.

  Mon, Jun 12th 2006 01:58

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: KJam is a very fast build tool. It is a make replacement, and uses
a syntax similar to Jam, but is much more powerful than the original. It
has built-in dependency scanning, per-target viewpathing, C-like control
flow, and a built-in sh-like shell. It is optimized for multi-processor
machines. It can accelerate software builds by launching build actions on
a distributed peer to peer network of build servers. It is designed to
support large projects with thousands of targets, or projects requiring
building on many target architectures.

Changes: Performance has been improved by more than 100%. Major
improvements were made in scanning and regular expression matching
performance. Output of build commands uses a smarter algorithm which
avoids interspersed output but is much more responsive. KJam now supports
projects with up to two billion targets. Error reporting has been greatly
improved. Regular expression syntax has been improved. Variable expansion
has additional modifiers. There are several new built-in variables.

columns can be added to the existing table, making it easy to expand your
business needs.

Changes: Some bugs have been cleaned up since version .9. There is now a
help function (still in beta). Support for deadlines was added. The
print_invoice function was tweaked to be more customizable, and the Tech
name doesn't say Mark all the time. A little code was added to add columns
and tables, but is not apparent while using the program. This version works
with the previous version's tables, but to take full advantage you must add

initial set of routines implements a lossless compression algorithm, so
restoration and decompression are perfect.

Changes: A photo-image compression routine has been added to SCZ. Unlike
the core SCZ functions that implement perfect lossless compression, the
new image-scz routine applies a lossy method appropriate for images. The

About: XMLMath is a program that evaluates mathematical, logical, or
textual expressions described in XML and prints the result. The package
supports declarations of variables, sub-routines, and XML-based libraries
with formulas that can be included in new expression documents. Xmlmath
can be used as a stand-alone program from the command-line, but can also
be used as a library inside third-party applications.

Changes: Xmlmath can now be used as a library. Arguments may be passed to
expressions. if/then/else elements were made optional in "choose", "for",
and "sum". Nested "include" URLs are now relative to each other.
Conditional evaluation with if/then/else was added. The stanza/delcare
order was switched, so declarations may require stanzas. Includes,
stanzas, and declarations are allowed directly in "stanza" and "declare".
"listItem" was added. Explicit casting was added. "linkBoolean",
"inlineBoolean", "listSum", and "rnd" were added. Declarations can now be
const (evaluated only once).
