Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Apache XML-RPC is a Java implementation of XML- RPC, a popular
protocol that uses XML over HTTP to implement remote procedure calls.
Apache XML- RPC was previously known as Helma XML-RPC.
Changes: Extends the XML-RPC specification by a lot of vendor extensions,
including a streaming mode (low-memory profile), extended data types
(null, long, xs:dateTime, DOM nodes, Serializable objects, JAXB elements),
compression, and dynamic client generation.

[002] - Autofiler 2.1.0
by Bart Vrijkorte (http://freshmeat.net/users/bartvrijkorte/)
Sun, Jun 25th 2006 08:51
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: Autofiler is an automatic server-side mail filer application based
on Bayesian text classification. In combination with an IMAP server,
autofiler can file messages in folders automatically and with complete
transparency. It uses (customized versions of) algorithms described in "A
Statistical Approach to the Spam Problem".
Changes: This release uses a relational database for storing the training
data (currently only PostgreSQL is supported). It supports quick
incremental database uploads. Furthermore, the algorithms were tweaked for
improved accuracy.

by Vladimir Panov (http://freshmeat.net/users/gbrdead/)

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Object Brokering :: CORBA
About: autotools-idl is a patch for automake and some autoconf scripts
that adds support for IDL and C++ ORBs. It tries to provide full support
for compiling IDL files to C++ stubs and skeletons. The autoconf scripts
provide unified detection of different C++ ORBs.
Changes: automake-idl has been revamped in order to work with parallel
buidls (make -jN, N>1). As a result, example5 as previously given won't
work anymore even for non-parallel builds. Check the documentation on the
Web site for more information.

Internet
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Avahi is a framework for Multicast DNS Service Discovery
(mDNS/DNS-SD a.k.a. Zeroconf) on Linux. It allows programs to publish and
discover services running on a local network with no specific
configuration. For example, you can plug into a network and instantly find
printers to print to, files to look at, and people to talk to.
Changes: The code was ported to Solaris. A fatal error in object disposal
code was fixed in avahi-sharp. A few new entries were added to the
servivce type database. A potential crash when the daemon shuts down was
fixed. Compatibility with newer autoconf versions is ensured.

Sun, Jun 25th 2006 06:01
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Bky is a minimalistic, distributed Version Control System/Source
Code Management tool that uses rsync as a backend to store revisions as
complete trees, optimizing the size by storing unchanged files as hard
links.
Changes: Specific files can be commited (no longer limited to full
commits). The "branchname" command was added to set or get the name of a
branch. RCS style revision ID tags were added. The commit message can be
read from a file. The commit_id argument to the "patchset" command has
been made optional. The license was changed from the GPL to a BSD-style

Sun, Jun 25th 2006 17:29
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: Blossoc is a linkage disequilibrium association mapping tool that
attempts to build (perfect) genealogies for each site in the input, score
these according to non-random clustering of affected individuals, and
judge high-scoring areas as likely candidates for containing disease
affecting variation. Building the local genealogy trees is based on a
number of heuristics that are not guaranteed to build true trees, but have
the advantage over more sophisticated methods of being extremely fast.
Blossoc can therefore handle much larger data sets than more sophisticated
tools, but at the cost of sacrificing some accuracy.
Changes: This release adds the possibility of performing permutation tests
from the GUI.

you can, for example, compare disk usage in combination with interrupts
from your IDE controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers
directly with the disk throughput (in the same interval).
Changes: A new app plugin has been added. There are improvements to swap,
battery, thermal, and disk plugins. A problem where curses.setupterm() was

Sun, Jun 25th 2006 21:46
Text Editors
About: GNU nano (Nano's ANOther editor, or Not ANOther editor) is an
enhanced clone of the Pico text editor.
Changes: This release contains the last new features that nano will have
before 2.0: copying text without cutting it, indenting lines of marked
text, reworked help text that should be easier for new users, searching
for filenames in the file browser, including color regexes in files
separate from nanorc files, and more. It also contains many bugfixes. Text
can now be unjustified after justifying it and resizing the window. The

[018] - Impact 0.6.9
by jonas forssell (http://freshmeat.net/users/jonasforssell/)
Sun, Jun 25th 2006 06:03
Scientific/Engineering
About: Impact is a finite element program for simulation of dynamic events
such as car crashes or other large deformation events. It is kept very
simple to make it intuitive to use and easy to change and extend. The
program includes a NURBS based pre-processor for modelling, a solver with
editor, a post-processor, and a graph plotter for results viewing. Impact
also interfaces with several other programs, such as Nastran and Gmsh.
Changes: Several bugs were fixed in this release. Models now display
properly in the GL solver window. Mesh quality for the unstructured mesh
has been improved. Tooltips for some buttons have been corrected. The use
of ClusterGUI has been depreciated due to issues with JavaParty on
Windows. For computers with several cores or CPUs, the SMP model now works
again. The priority of the solver has been reduced to make the GUI run
better when a solution is in progress. The "Zoom All" button now works
correctly and the selection model has been improved.

[022] - Kaveri 0.8.2

Sun, Jun 25th 2006 20:46
About: Kaveri is an Eclipse plug-in front-end for the Indus Java slicer.
It utilizes the Indus program slicer to calculate slices of Java programs
and displays the results visually in the editor. The purpose of this
project is to create an effective tool for simplifying program
understanding, program analysis, program debugging, and testing.
Changes: From this version on, context-restrictive slicing support
provided by Kaveri can only be used in Eclipse 3.1.2; this support has
incompatibilities with Eclipse 3.2 JDT features. There are fixes to the
GUI of scoped slicing, fixes to the context-restrictive slicing UI, and
some minor tweaks to improve intra-session performance in the context of
repetitive slicing of unmodified projects.

Sun, Jun 25th 2006 13:11
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Installation/Setup
About: mkCDrec (Make CD-ROM Recovery) makes a bootable (El Torito)
disaster recovery image, including backups of the Linux system to one or
more CD-ROM(s) (multi-volume sets). Otherwise, the backups can be stored
on another disk, NFS/CIFS disk, or (remote) tape. After a disk crash or
system intrusion, the system can be booted from the CD-ROM and one can
restore the complete system as it was. It also features disk cloning,
which allows one to restore a disk to another disk (the destination disk
does not have to be of the same size, as it calculates the partition
layout itself). Currently, ext2, ext3, minix, MS-DOS, FAT, VFAT, Reiserfs,
XFS, and JFS filesystems are supported. It can restore disks in Software
RAID and LVM mode. It supports the One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR)
mode, which simulates a bootable CD-ROM on tape.
Changes: The busybox configuration has been changed to avoid the
compilation errors on x86_64 and IA-64 architectures. By adding the plugin
for Legato Networker, mkCDrec can use another backup/restore program to
retrieve the files of the system. The previous plugins (HP Data Protector
and IBM TSM) were fixed for the tmpfs file system problem with /dev.
