About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL and
PostgreSQL as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so there is no
need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine friendly URLs
are supported via mod_rewrite.
Changes: An unlimited input length is allowed in most text fields. Search
engine friendly URLs are supported now. Projects can be compiled to run
from subdirectories.

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: A raw encoder was added to make it easier to create miscellaneous
symbols in a custom symbology.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: CDnavigator is an application that files your CDs and DVDs in a
database. It also deposits information about photos (JPEG), music (MP3),
and films stored in such media. You can also store other metadata such as
notes and ratings. You can search over all items and save the choices.
CDnavigator supports an automatic cache that saves the most frequently
used data on hard disk. Photos can be viewed directly in the application.
It can download new photos from a camera, sort them into albums, and
prepare them for burning on CD.
Changes: CDnavigator now requires Java 1.5. There is new photo library
compiled with Java 1.5. There is a new way to paint transparent panels.
Logging is restricted. A Web presentation can be built from the
"roast/temp" folder. HSQL is now used as an embedded DB, so you don't need
an external DB. Some changes were made in the DB model. Unsorting photos
and long file names were fixed for Web presentation. Some DB transaction
problems were fixed. Loading the configuration file in the installer was
fixed.

[016] - Conary 1.0.32 (1.0)
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Tue, Sep 26th 2006 10:06
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Several unusual update cases are handled better. Updating
packages is faster. A slowdown in building packages has been fixed. Macros
can now be overridden by files in the /etc/conary/macros.d/ directory.

Tue, Sep 26th 2006 06:08
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking
About: Crossroads is a load balance and failover utility for TCP-based
services. It is a daemon program running in userspace and features
extensive configurability, polling of backends using "wakeup calls",
highly configurable dispatch modes of client requests to back ends,
detailed status reporting, "hooks" for special actions when backend calls
fail, support for "sticky" HTTP sessions, and more. It is
service-independent; it is usable for HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, DNS, MySQL, etc.
Changes: This is a "stable" release. It has all major enhancements that
previously had "development" status: Extended header modification
directives for HTTP balancing (timestamps, remote IP headers, session
cookies, etc.), an HP-UX/ia64 port, streamed transfer during HTTP
balancing (relevant, for example, for video content), improved parsing and
support for HTTP messages during "keep-alive" connections, and lots of code
cleanups.

[029] - Hotplug2 0.8
by iSteve (http://freshmeat.net/users/iSteve/)
Tue, Sep 26th 2006 07:08
System :: Boot
System :: Hardware
About: Hotplug2 is aimed at early Linux user space, i.e. initramfs or
initrd, and possibly also at embedded devices (such as WRT-like routers)
or very weak machines, such as 386/486. It connects to the uevent netlink
socket and reads events. The application generally operates in two modes:
dumb and smart.
Changes: Support for 2.4 hotplug was actively started. A 2.4 coldplug
binary, hotplug2-coldplug-2.4, was added. A generate_alias utility was
added to create modaliases out of busmaps. hotplug2-dnode was added to
convert /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug events into uevents. hotplug2-modwrap was
added for modutils. In dumb mode, the program detects whether to use
/sbin/modprobe or /sbin/hotplug2-modwrap. This can be overridden using
--set-modprobe-cmd. The "setenv" action was added in rules. The
--set-coldplug-cmd parameter was added. --udevtrigger was renamed to
--coldplug. Comments in rules file are supported.

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: ibo is a tool for developing Web-based interfaces to relational
databases. ibo1 is a translator from an ad hoc language to C, ibo2 is an
application server for projects written in the same language as ibo1, and
ibo3 is a small set of Python modules.
Changes: This version makes it possible to initialize the library using a
dictionary containing all the data. The advantage to this is that you can
hold your own configuration files. The undocumented dependency from
mx.DateTime was also removed. If you're running on a recent Python, the
standard datetime library is loaded, falling back to mx.DateTime only on
older Python versions.

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking
About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It interoperates with most other IPsec-based VPN
products. It is a descendant of the discontinued FreeS/WAN project. The
focus of the strongSwan project is on strong authentication mechanisms
using X.509 public key certificates and optional secure storage of private
keys on smartcards through a standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique
feature is the use of X.509 attribute certificates to implement advanced
access control schemes based on group memberships.
Changes: Many new features have been added to the IKEv2 charon daemon:
support for pre-shared keys, 3DES- or AES-protected RSA private key files,
3DES encryption for IKEv2, SHA-2 hashes in X.509 certificate signatures,
automatic insertion of firewall passthrough rules for VPN traffic,
IPv6-in-IPv6 tunnels, and dead peer detection with clear, hold, or restart
options. IKEv2 now allows for mixed-mode authentication in which the VPN
server sends a certificate, and VPN clients use personal pre-shared

[062] - SunflowerApplet 0.3
by Kevin DeKorte (http://freshmeat.net/users/kdekorte/)
Tue, Sep 26th 2006 22:02
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: SunflowerApplet is a Gnome Applet that changes the shadow on the
windows managed by compiz when the decorator plugin is enabled. The shadow
on the window moves from left (west) to right (east) from sunrise to
sunset, and stays static from sunset to sunrise, as if the shadow is being
cast by the "sun" moving right (east) to left (west) over your windows. It
requires compiz to be the window manager and the compiz decorator plugin
to be active.
Changes: The time display was fixed, as it was missing leading zeros when
the minimum was less than 10. Other defaults were set for the decorator
plugin.

[063] - SWAMP 1.5.3
by digitaltom (http://freshmeat.net/users/digitaltom/)
Tue, Sep 26th 2006 08:33
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: SWAMP is a workflow processing platform in which the workflow is
designed in an XML based language in one file which is read by the SWAMP
server. It avoids hardcoding business logic, and workflows can be built
from different workflow "patterns" like simple actions, decisions,
selections, loops, and custom code. The SWAMP server automatically creates
a Web GUI from the workflow definition file that guides users through the
business logic process based on their roles. Notification is sent if
required. Overview pages over all running workflows and much more are
available.
Changes: The parentworkflow attribute was added to workflow definition for
easier verification. Groovy (groovy.codehaus.org) scripting support was
added inside workflow. A generic class for LDAP authentication was added.
Data changes get propagated to all workflows that attach the dataset.
Collapsible tree views were added for subworkflows in webSWAMP. An
apparmor profile was added for SWAMP. A new Executor class allows calling
external executables from script actions. A bug was fixed in
Sendeventaction (regarding the onlyweekdays option). Workflows can be
deleted completely from the system.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Usenet News
About: Sylpheed-Claws is the extended version of Sylpheed, a GTK+ based,
lightweight, and fast email client. Almost all commands are accessible
with the keyboard. It also has many features such as multiple accounts,
POP3/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP support, OpenSSL, GnuPG, and LDAP support, a plugin
system, spell checking, filtering, Actions, spam and virus filters, an
address book, internationalization, and more.
Changes: It is now possible to stop searches in message bodies. For IMAP,
"UID SEARCH ALL" is used instead of "UID SEARCH UID 1:*" in order to fix
speed issues with badly implemented servers. Multiple registering of the
SpamAssassin and Bogofilter plugins after having changed their preferences
was fixed. This problem led to slowness or duplicated messages.

Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Tulip is a software system dedicated to the visualization of huge
graphs. It manages graphs with up to 500,000 elements (node and edges) on
a personal computer (PIII 600, 256MB RAM). Its SuperGraph technology
architecture provides the following features: 3D visualizations, 3D
modifications, plugin support, support for clusters and navigation,
automatic graph drawing, automatic clustering of graphs, automatic
selection of elements, and automatic coloring of elements according to a
metric.
Changes: Due to its non-GPL license, Tulip no longer includes the Triangle
package, so the Delaunay triangulation and Voronoi diagram are not
currently implemented in the current release. Bugs were fixed for the

About: UNG (UNG's Not Gallery) is a Web gallery script for control freaks,
tweakers, and other power users. It browses subdirectories (uploaded
manually via FTP/SCP/etc.) of a specified location and creates a hierarchy
of categories and pictures. It automatically creates thumbnails for images
that don't have them already and has an optional comment system so people
can discuss posted pictures.
Changes: This release fixes a missing semicolon in the SQL section. It
also fixes the comment posting code to have both security and legibility.
Adding the former in the previous update removed the latter. There is
increased verbosity in disallowed comment email messages, which now
contain the reason the post failed as well as the post contents.

[071] - USBSink 0.0.2
by Marko Anastasov (http://freshmeat.net/users/anastasov/)
Tue, Sep 26th 2006 23:11
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
System :: Archiving
System :: Filesystems
About: USBSink is a GNOME program for file synchronization over USB. It is
designed for users of removable drives, such as flash drives or external
hard disks. The goal is to completely automate data transfers after a task
has been defined. With file monitoring and hardware detection features,
USBSink is able to respond and act according to relevant events across the
desktop.
Changes: Logging has been moved away from the main window and is now
visible through a separate dialog, with each task keeping one log for
itself. The status bar shows some basic messages regarding task syncing
and drive (un)mounting. Settings are now stored in ~/.config/usbsink. All
users should copy the contents of their ~/.usbsink directory to this new
directory, so that the program can continue to use all the tasks and
ignore file lists previously created.
