Database
Documentation
Information Management
About: AgileWiki is a Java-based wiki that provides a virtual wiki for
each registered user, complete with access control, versioning,
hierarchical structures, namespace management, and semantic relations,
qualifiers, and inferencing. This is a rich system that is also easy for
casual users to browse or add content. Prototypes for this system also
included an email client and server-to-server content sharing.
Changes: When navigating in past time, the inability to view subsequently
destroyed topics was fixed. View has a new feature, Time, which was
previously part of the Agile feature. The rebuild utility was updated so
it now handles .wdbs files from the snap utility. The database on
agilewiki.org has now been snaped for 1-Jul-06 and then rebuilt. This has
eliminated all history, journals, and comments prior to 1-July-06. A new
page in the UserGuide on TimeNavigation is available at agilewiki.org.

[013] - Enhanced TightVNC Viewer 1.0.5
by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
Fri, Oct 6th 2006 05:50
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: The Enhanced TightVNC Viewer package is part of the x11vnc VNC
server project. It provides a native VNC viewer that takes advantage of
new features in x11vnc, e.g. cursor alpha blending and automatic SSL
tunnelling. Some features apply to any VNC server, e.g. automatic SSH
tunnelling. Another goal is to provide a package that conveniently bundles
everything needed for the user to have the enhanced viewer running quickly.
This includes pre-built binaries of the viewer and utility programs for
Windows and many Unix variants, and a GUI to configure and launch the
viewer.
Changes: This release implements "double proxy" connections for Windows
with SSL and "double SSH" connections. For SSL mode, this involves two Web
proxies, usually a local proxy connection to leave a firewall followed by a
second proxy connection to enter another firewall to where the VNC server
is. For SSH mode, this involves an initial SSH session to a firewall
gateway followed by a second SSH connection to an internal machine running
the VNC server. Standalone (i.e., no VNC or SSH) port knocking is enabled.

[014] - EverCrack 1.1.0
by Dr MindHacker (http://freshmeat.net/users/darklogic/)
Fri, Oct 6th 2006 10:28
Security :: Cryptography
About: EverCrack is a cryptanalysis engine. The overall design goal is to
systematically break down complex ciphers into their simplex components for
cryptanalysis (by the kernel). The kernel consists of an algebraic design
(comparison and reduction) for breaking uniliteral, monoalphabetic ciphers
instantaneously. Currently, it can break a 4000-word cipher in
milliseconds. EverCrack currently has multi-language support for the user
interface and cracking encryption in other language dictionaries (English,
German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, and Portuguese).
Changes: The dictionary set has been changed to lists of words by exact
pattern. This reduces the search space completely and increases the speed
by approximately 30%. Older dictionaries will not work with this release.

[051] - SBackup 0.10.2
by Aigars Mahinovs (http://freshmeat.net/users/aigarius/)
Fri, Oct 6th 2006 14:48
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Recovery Tools
About: SBackup is a simple backup solution intended for desktop use. It
can back up any subset of files and directories. Exclusions can be defined
by regular expressions. A maximum individual file size limit can be
defined. Backups may be saved to any local and remote directories that are
supported by gnome-vfs.
Changes: This release manages /etc/sbackup.conf and /etc/cron.d/sbackup as
config files, but not as conf files, to remove an unneeded "config changes
upstream" prompt on upgrade. It can handle old config files gracefuly.
There is a one-liner fix for incremental backup time not being counted
properly, which caused incremental backups to be done all the time. The
nice level of the sbackupd process has been reduced to the lowest possible
priority (+19). An empty regex matches everything, so avoid those.

[069] - Waffle Web framework 0.7-BETA-1
by mward (http://freshmeat.net/users/mward/)
Fri, Oct 6th 2006 05:19
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Waffle is a Java Web framework that allows for POJO-based actions.
Dependency injection support is built in. Waffle does not require any
custom XML configuration files, nor does it have a proprietary templating
language. Web applications built on Waffle are easier to write and test
than those built on other frameworks.
Changes: Waffle has been updated with full ParaNamer support as an
alternative to annotations. It is now easier to handle user errors when
binding or validation fails. Developers can override ActionMethod
invocation through "pragma-driven" requests. Overall performance
improvements were done.

[070] - Wefis 1.4.2
by Franchie (http://freshmeat.net/users/Franchie/)
Fri, Oct 6th 2006 10:27
About: Wefis is a Web-based file manager allowing users to securely manage
files hosted on the server via HTTP(S). It is based on AJAX technology and
the Prasi security system. Wefis allows users to perform most of the
actions commonly done via FTP. They can upload a near-unlimited number of
files at any one time, do multiple actions on a selection of files,
download individual items, or many in a tar.gz archive, and more. Quotas
and read-only access can be enforced.
Changes: Search results work with multimode. Various problems with the
'normal' multimode were fixed, and a number of bugs were fixed. The
installer was updated to cope with remote installations, as well as
changing the default service name of 'wefis'.

Adaptive Technologies
Database
Education
About: YALE (Yet Another Learning Environment) is a flexible Java
environment for knowledge discovery in databases, machine learning, and
data mining. Many nestable learning and preprocessing operators (including
Weka) are provided. It features an XML-based graphical user interface, a

[074] - YasSS 0.4.5
by Moritz Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/moritzlenz/)
Fri, Oct 6th 2006 05:23
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games
About: YasSS (Yet another (simple|stupid) Sudoku Solver) is a Sudoku
solver for the command line. It solves any Sudoku puzzle and generates
Sudoku puzzles. It can calculate the number of solutions, print a
difficulty rating, and generate a canonical form for a puzzle. It also
provides a curses interface for playing Sudoku.
Changes: A "minimalise" feature was added, in which you enter a Sudoku and
it keeps deleting numbers from it without making it ambiguous. A search for
Sudokus with very few numbers given (less than 20) was added. Please note
that this is very, very slow and unpredictable, so you should just use it
as a research feature.
