Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share
leadership? Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or
HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion
About: Antmod is a build management, release management, and repository
management tool. Its implementation is an Ant-based extensible engine
for retrieving, versioning, building, and deploying code to and from
Subversion or CVS. It standardizes build files for Java projects and
provides build plugins for various tasks. It also standardizes tagging
and branching for both CVS and Subversion, and its module and repository
management can also be used for non-Java projects. It greatly speeds up
Java software development, promotes reuse of Java software, and
standardizes the build-test- release cycle.
Changes: This release adds Subversion 1.4 support, improved command-line
support, and module-level merge functions for merging to a branch or the
trunk. With the out-of-the-box War plugin for building Web applications,
this release is a must-have. All current users are advised to upgrade.

Tue, Oct 10th 2006 05:59
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.
Changes: Fixes were made for a bug in date handling affecting
DATE_IN_FUTURE_* and DATE_IN_PAST_* rules when more than one Resent-Date
header is present. A race condition in spamd preforking code that
sometimes left one child process running after sending SIGHUP to spamd was
fixed. Hash characters in the config are now unescaped. False SPF_SOFTFAILs
when SPF queries timeout were fixed. RCVD_ILLEGAL_IP evaltest was updated
to properly deal with 127/8. Adding headers with a single digit zero value
was enabled. Support for ecelerity Received headers was added. A bug
introduced in 3.1.5 in mbx code was fixed.

About: Fast File Validator (FFV) is a program for verifying files against
a checksum file and for creating such checksum files. FFV supports both
SFV files (which use the CRC32 algorithm) and MD5 files. "Checksum" is
meant in the generic sense here. Technically, neither CRC32 nor MD5 is
really a checksum.
Changes: The new "--relative" option tells FFV to look for the files
relative to the checksum file. This is useful when the checksum file is
stored along with the files to be checked, and you want to validate
several checksum files in different directories.

Tue, Oct 10th 2006 07:58
Software Development :: Testing
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Instant-Grid is a Knoppix-based live-CD bundled with a
pre-configured grid environment based on the Globus Toolkit. One PC
started from this CD becomes the Instant-Grid frontend. It also functions
as a PXE boot-server, allowing other PCs in the same local network to boot
the Instant-Grid environment. Together with the frontend, these PCs
automatically form a working test grid. Like with the original Knoppix,
the existing configuration of the participating PC is not touched (except
maybe for enabling the PXE boot-option), and remains instantly available
by a simple reboot.
Changes: The live CD environment is now Knoppix 5, and Gridsphere and the
Grid Portlets were updated. A new addition is the text editor Gobby, a
nice example of collaborative tools (not only) for Grids. Furthermore, a
new Portlet was added, which allows the Instant-Grid hardware resources to
be examined directly from Gridsphere.

Software Development
About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the Internet.
Changes: The new package provides a series of fixes, such as one for an
inability to modify the user's system password when Password DB is enabled
on the server. A number of cosmetic bugs were solved, including an issue
where the toolbar menu in NX Server Manager was not refreshed and the
focus was not be set on the proper icon in the toolbar, in addition to
some graphical improvements to the server configuration page.

[044] - Stunnix JavaScript Obfuscator and Encoder 3.4
by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Tue, Oct 10th 2006 14:04
Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: In Project Manager, it's possible to specify rules (in the form
of filename patterns and corresponding processing mode) on how to mangle
(obfuscate and encode) files in the Project Directory that are not
registered in the project. This allows the program to generate
buildscript only once, and use it for frequent rebuilding of the projects
in which new source files are introduced or removed very frequently.

by Myron Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/turnermm03/)
Tue, Oct 10th 2006 05:51
Text Processing :: Markup
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: XML_PullParser moves the API of the PHP XML facility from an
event-based model to a token-based model. Instead of processing data as it
is passed from the parser to callbacks, a script using PullParser requests
"tokens" from XML_PullParser_getToken() and a number of helper functions.
Tokens are arrays representing XML structures, which become available in
the order in which they appear in the document being parsed. Methods are
provided both to get tokens and to extract their data.
Changes: This release provides enhanced functionality for handling
namespace prefixes when namespace support is not in effect. Prefixes can
now be removed from element and attribute names. The default behavior is
to keep prefixes, which is backward-compatible with previous releases.
