Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

leadership? Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or
HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a Java-based wiki that provides a virtual wiki for
each registered user, complete with access control, versioning,
hierarchical structures, namespace management, and semantic relations,
qualifiers, and inferencing. This is a rich system that is also easy for
casual users to browse or add content. Prototypes for this system also
included an email client and server-to-server content sharing.

Changes: Wiki text is now automaticly updated by refactoring operations.

[002] - Anthill Pro Build and Release Management Server 3.0.0
  by Urbancode (http://freshmeat.net/users/anthillpro/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 16:47

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: AnthillPro is a build management and lifecycle automation server
for the enterprise that makes the build and release process easy and
efficient. As a continuous integration server, it can produce a new build
for every developer check-in. The entire team can be alerted to problems
via email or instant message. Each build can then be promoted to higher
statuses, or deployed to various servers and environments using your
scripts. At every step, AnthillPro records who did what to keep your
auditors happy.

Changes: This release is built around an embedded workflow engine and a
GRID computing engine, making possible definition and automation of
processes such as distributed builds, automated tests, promotions,
deployments, and more. It introduces the concept of a Living Build, a
model of what actually happens as a build moves from development to
release. This produces a comprehensive view of the history of a build as
it travels through the application lifecycle.

[003] - AVL Array 1.1
  by Martin Knoblauch Revuelta (http://freshmeat.net/users/comocomocomo/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 10:55

Software Development
Text Editors

About: AVL Array is an STL-like container for C++ that fills the gap
between vector (or deque) and list, providing both fast random access and
fast insertion/removal, all O(log n). This is not a map; in an avl_array,
the "keys" always range from 0 to size-1, and they automatically change on
insertion or removal. As a sequence container, like vector and list, it
respects the order of elements.

Changes: This release has namespaces, allocators, improved portability,
and no macros. A new experimental feature "Non-Proportional Sequence View"
allows indexing with something different from natural numbers, but with the
same working principle: insertion, deletion, or (newly added) width change
of an element automatically changes the position of others.

[004] - Basic Local Alignment Search Tool 2.2.15
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 23:48

About: BLAST is a set of similarity search programs designed to explore
all of the available sequence databases regardless of whether the query is
protein or DNA. It uses a heuristic algorithm which seeks local as opposed
to global alignments, and is therefore able to detect relationships among
sequences which share only isolated regions of similarity. It can be run
locally as a full executable, and can be used to run BLAST searches
against private, local databases, or downloaded copies of the NCBI
databases. It runs on Mac OS, Win32, LINUX, Solaris, IBM AIX, SGI, Compaq
OSF, and HP- UX systems.

Changes: BLAST now uses a 28-letter protein alphabet supporting the J
(leucine or isoleucine) and O (pyrrolysine) residues. Support has been
added for incremental ASN.1 output. Searches larger than 10kbp have been
accelerated. Support has been added for BLOSUM50 and BLOSUM90 score
matrices. Headers are now correctly printed for concatenated queries.

About: Channelflow is a direct numerical simulator for incompressible
Navier-Stokes channel flow, written in C++. It simulates fluid flow in a
rectangular box, with no-slip boundary conditions on the upper and lower
surfaces of the box, and periodic boundary conditions in the stream and
spanwise directions. Channelflow uses a spectral discretization in spatial
directions (Fourier x Chebyshev x Fourier) and finite-differencing in time,
on primitive variables (3D velocity and pressure).

[008] - Charlix 0.4 (ReversedAIML)
  by charlix (http://freshmeat.net/users/charlix/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 09:09

About: Charlix is a desktop assistant that is based on AIML (Artificial
Intelligence Markup Language) and is compatible with any AIML interpreter
with a working tag. It provides Web searching tools, a dictionary, a
calculator, weather, translations, and more.

Changes: Topic setting is no longer used to get a separate graphmaster.
Instead, a simple initialization is done through the pick-up category.
Analysis of the objects and subjects of verbs was improved: a list of
people hyponyms enables it to guess if objects and subjects are persons or
things (who and what), and sometimes their gender (he, she, and they).
Passive form sentences are transformed to active in a recursion. For
example, "Robots are created by people" gets "People create robots". Lots
of testing and improvements were done.

[013] - FLASH Code 3.0alpha (Stable)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 16:42

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: The FLASH code is a modular, adaptive, parallel simulation code
capable of handling general compressible flow problems in astrophysical
environments. It has been designed to allow users to configure initial and
boundary conditions, change algorithms, and add new physical effects with
minimal effort. It uses the PARAMESH library to manage a block-structured
adaptive grid, placing resolution elements only where they are needed
most. It uses the Message-Passing Interface (MPI) library to achieve
portability and scalability on a variety of different message-passing
parallel computers.

Changes: This release adds new gravity solvers, a source term for
stirring, a nuclear burning network, a directionally split 8wave MHD
solver, and an equation of state for fully ionized plasma of arbitrary
degeneracy. It also includes Lagrangian tracer particles for the uniform
grid. API changes include complete interface definitions of the units'
API, support for face-centered discretization variables, curvilinear
geometry in the meshes, and more robust boundary conditions handling. Two
methods of parallel I/O support have been added. New test cases have been
added.

About: Letter Hunt is a rogue-like game. As such, you are an @ which
navigates a dungeon populated by various monsters represented by different
letters. However, unlike most rogue-like games where the goal is to get to
the bottom of the dungeon to save the world, the goal in Letter Hunt is
simpler: to score as many points as possible. Points are scored by
defeating enemies in an order that spells a word. Capturing an rat, then
an ant, and then a turtle, will award you points for spelling "rat". While
it is turn-based like most roguelikes, play is faster since the traditional
inventory has been replaced by power-ups.

  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 20:41

System :: Benchmark
System :: Hardware

About: mubench is an in-depth, low-level benchmark for x86 processors.
Its primary goal is to provide useful information for people who
optimize assembly code and write compilers. It measures latency and
throughput for each individual instruction (sometimes several forms of
the same instruction), as well as the throughput of arbitrary instruction
mixes. The results produced by mubench are typically an order of
magnitude more detailed than those found in AMD or Intel manuals.

Changes: All SSE/MMX and many regular instructions work, and a standard
XML output format was implemented. IPC::Run 0.80 was included for easier
running without installing that module.

[032] - OpenVZ kernel 2.6.9-023stab032.1
  by Kir Kolyshkin (http://freshmeat.net/users/k001/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 16:49

System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: OpenVZ is a modified Linux kernel with additional support for
OpenVZ Virtual Environments (VE, also known as VPS). VEs are isolated,
secure environments on a single physical server, enabling better server
utilization and ensuring that applications do not conflict. Each VE

[036] - pmacct 0.11.1
  by Paolo Lucente (http://freshmeat.net/users/plucente/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 16:51

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a small set of passive network monitoring tools to
measure, account, classify, aggregate, and export IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. A
pluggable and flexible architecture allows collected network data to be
stored into memory tables or SQL (MySQL, SQLite, PostgreSQL) databases and
exported through NetFlow or sFlow protocols to remote collectors. pmacct
supports fully customizable historical data breakdown, flow sampling,
filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap, sFlow
v2/v4/v5 and NetFlow v1/v5/v7/v8/v9 are supported.

Changes: The 'sql_use_copy' configuration directive has been introduced:
it instructs the PostgreSQL plugin to build non-UPDATE SQL queries using
COPY (in place of INSERT). Support for IPv4 ToS/DSCP, IPv6 CoS, and MPLS
top-most labels has been introduced in the nfprobe plugin. Some alignment
issues have been fixed, and daemons are now reported to be running ok on
MIPS/SPARC architectures. Fixes have been committed to IPv6 code in
xflow_status.c: it now compiles properly on both Solaris and IRIX.

[039] - Radiance 3.8 (Stable)
  by Lars Grobe (http://freshmeat.net/users/lgrobe/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 06:57

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Radiance is a set of tools which provide an advanced lighting
simulation software package. It allows very detailed definition of
materials' and light sources' properties through the use of advanced
techniques like brdf and ies files, as well as a powerful mathematical
scripting language, resulting in accurate renderings of scenes which are
usually imported from CAD and 3D modelers. It uses the hybrid approach of
Monte Carlo and deterministic ray tracing to achieve a reasonably accurate
result in a reasonable time.

Changes: New scripts for higher productivity have been added. Code was
cleaned to improve performance on new machines and in parallel
environments. Handling of the recent mesh primitive was improved. Lots of
clean-ups were done. This release has been tested a lot and is meant to be
especially stable.

[040] - renattach 1.2.4
  by Jem Berkes (http://freshmeat.net/users/jberkes/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 07:00

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security

About: renattach is a stream filter that can identify and act upon
potentially dangerous e-mail attachments. It's a highly effective way of
protecting users from harmful mail content (virii and worms) by disabling
or removing attachments that may be accidentally executed by the user. It
is written in pure C and can quickly process mail with little overhead.
Unlike a conventional virus scanner, there are no specific virus or worm
definitions. Instead, it identifies potentially dangerous attachments
based on filename extension and on encoded body content. It can be used
from within sendmail, postfix, procmail, or pretty much anywhere else.

Changes: The --loop option was added, which removes Delivered-To headers
from the input message. This defends Postfix against a "mail forwarding
loop" spam relay trick which could be used when renattach is installed as
an smtpd-side content filter.

About: Gerris can solve the time-dependent Euler, Stokes, and
Navier-Stokes equations of fluid motion. The domain geometry can be
arbitrarily complex. An octree mesh is used. Mesh generation is entirely
automatic. The code is adaptive: the local resolution is automatically
and continuously adapted to the computed solution.

Changes: Bugfixes and significant speedups in the multilevel Poisson
solver. Support for variable mesh resolution along solid boundaries.
Improvements have been made to the robustness of very complex solid
boundaries. Adaptive refinement of VOF-advected tracers has been added, as
well as a preliminary implementation of CSF surface tension using Renardy
El Ab. "proper discretisation". Solid boundaries can be refined according
to the local curvature. Implicit Coriolis terms work with the
Navier-Stokes solver. There is support for "thin" 3D domains.

[050] - The Million Musician Challenge 0.820
  by musicgame (http://freshmeat.net/users/musicgame/)
  Wed, Oct 25th 2006 10:35

About: The Million Musician Challenge is a project to allow you to play
music by playing games. The first game is a 2D vertically scrolling
shoot-em-up game. The keyboard (qwerty or musical) controls an array of
sprites corresponding to the music notes. As you shoot the falling
sprites, you play notes corresponding to the music. It requires JRE 5.0.

Changes: The game now allows you to specify which MIDI instrument to use,
if installed. Hence all types of MIDI instruments should be supported.
Only keyboard instruments are likely to be effective in the gameplay. It
also allows you to select the synthesizer to use, so that music can be
played either by the computer or by an attached instrument. Players with a
MIDI controller should not select this as the synthesizer, as no sound will
be produced. Some improvements have been made to loading speed and graphics
handling.

[056] - Visopsys 0.64
  by Andy McLaughlin (http://freshmeat.net/users/andymcl/)

System :: Operating System Kernels

About: Visopsys is an alternative operating system for PC compatible
computers. Under development since late 1997, this system is small, fast,
and open source. It features a simple but functional graphical interface,
real preemptive multitasking, and virtual memory. Though it attempts to be
compatible in a number of ways, Visopsys is not a clone of any other
operating system. You can demo the distribution from a "live" CD or floppy
disk.

Changes: This is a maintenance release, with extensive code grooming and
bugfixes. There has been a particular focus on the GUI code, kernel
debugging, the kernel API, gcc 4.x warnings, and compiler optimization
problems. New user-visible features include the addition of right-click
context menus and support for 32-bit bitmaps and icons.

[064] - ZybaCafe 4.0.0 Alpha

Internet
Utilities

About: ZybaCafe (formerly DireqCafe) is a full featured and complete
Internet cafe management suite with support for multiple-platform clients.
Thin-client Linux, fat-client Linux, and Windows are officially maintained.
Extension is easily done through plugins.

Changes: With this release, all the core functionality is fully working,
as is the plugin system. However, it has only been tested internally and
may still contain severe bugs. ZybaCafe now uses its own countdown daemon
rather than cron jobs. The backend was switched to PostgreSQL. An advanced
plugin system was implemented for easy extensibility. The program is now
completely independent of Unix usernames/passwords, allowing for
portability, security, and reduced management.
