Office/Business
About: AntiRight is a lightweight and scripted desktop environment.
AntiRight provides an interface for scripting of the GUI. Around this
interface, applications can be defined at the command line.
Changes: The terminal application, GSHTerm, is now transparent by default.
This release features the consolidation of globals by means of passed
application structures. This allows cleaner, more structured code and more
memory to be freed after initialization. Unlinking of the command script
file in GSHTerm is now performed after gtk_main terminates, rather than in
an exit callback. Various method refactorings have been performed.

About: The aim of auch is to visualize harmonics in musical recordings.
Many tools show the spectrum, but this tool focuses on one or two specific
octaves with an indication of the tonica (the key) and sub-dominant(IV) and
dominant(V). It also supports wavelet transformation and resampling to
further analyze and clean-up the recording. This way, notes, chords, and
harmonics in a musical piece become more clear. Another feature is that
this tool can compare outgoing audio (from a .wav file) with incoming
audio (microphone). This way, the effect of external filters can be
tested.
Changes: This release adds two analysis and logging functionalities to
auch: C5 analysis calculates deviation from equal temperament, and IVIV
analysis records any combinations of fourths and fifths and their weight
to a logfile.

About: Bibliomori is simple software for managing a personal library.
Changes: This release adds icons, question images to the dialogs, and a
better layout on the book edit screen. It fixes problems which occurred
when a book without an author was deleted, when there was a tilde in some
of the fields, when using a subgenre already used for a different genre,
and when using a genre as a subgenre. It now checks correctly for the
existence of libraries and doesn't show the year as 0 when no year was
given. The main window now has a better aspect ratio. SQL Errors are now
shown as message boxes.

Database :: Front-Ends
About: The DataBrowser is a Java-based tool for browsing virtually any
database. It has been tested with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL/Postgres,
MySQL, DB2, and MS Access (among some others). It requires a Java 2 runtime
environment. The DataBrowser allows you to execute dynamic SQL, import and
export data, view the schema in a treeview, and view query results in a
table view.
Changes: A small bug has been fixed that affected re-setting the schema
util's current schema or catalog back to 'null'. The TreePanelModel has
been fixed to avoid settig SchemaUtil's state to 'All', which caused
problems with the export wizard. DataEditor support for HSQLDB (date and
time formatting in the database.properties file). A small fix to remove
the stack trace from log on the expected condition of
QueryTimer.interrupt(). Cleanup in the TableEditor UI.

[023] - DBIx::Perlish 0.15
by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
Fri, Feb 16th 2007 01:47
About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.
Changes: union {} and intersect {} were implemented. String concatenation
is now supported.

System :: Boot
System :: Diagnostics
About: INSERT (the Inside Security Rescue Toolkit) aims to be a
multi-functional, multi-purpose disaster recovery and network analysis
system. It boots from a credit card-sized CD-ROM and is basically a
stripped-down version of Knoppix. It features good hardware detection,
fluxbox, emelfm, links-hacked, ssh, tcpdump, nmap, chntpwd, and much more.
It provides full read-write support for NTFS partitions (using ntfs-3g),
and the ClamAV virus scanner (including a fairly recent signature database
and a GUI). It provides partition handling with gParted and also has a
network boot facility.
Changes: The Linux kernel was updated to 2.6.18.6. ClamAV 0.90 with
experimental features activated is used. ntfs-3g was updated to the first
release candidate. The GUI for clamav (avscan) was replaced with a GUI for
(the downloadable) F-Prot (xfprot). Support for ISDN was completely
dropped. The persistent home directory feature should work again.

About: iText is a library that contains classes to generate documents in
the Portable Document Format (PDF), XML, HTML, and RTF. It can also parse
XML documents and convert them into any of these formats. Pages of
existing PDF files can be imported and copied to new PDF documents.
Changes: iText has undergone quite a metamorphosis. Obsolete classes,
interfaces, and methods have been removed. Some classes have also
undergone huge changes internally. This is an ongoing process to make it
easier for other developers to add new functionality. This release
supports certificate encryption, portable collections, new printer
preferences, and more.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

System :: Monitoring
About: phpBBHC (PHP Big Brother Hosts Configurator) is a collection of PHP
scripts and one C program to give a Web-based interface for adding,
deleting, and modifying hosts which are monitored by Big Brother. Although
Big Brother has since been replaced by Hobbit, phpBBHC can still configure
Hobbit thanks to the backwards compatibility of Hobbit.
Changes: This release fixes bugs which prevented the user from adding
multiple hosts at once without saving the changes each time, deleting
multiple hosts at once without saving the changes each time, and including
file names in the URL. The benefit of this is that you can create a PHP
script to test the connection to a database server (see the README for
more information on this little hack, with an example script). This
release also adds a button to check/uncheck all the checkboxes for
deleting hosts.

Fri, Feb 16th 2007 05:59
Communications :: Email
System :: Benchmark
About: This suite currently consists of two programs, Postal and Rabid.
Postal (the mad postman) is a program that will deliver mail as fast as
possible via the SMTP protocol to test mail server performance. Rabid (the
mad Biff) will eat mail via the POP protocol as fast as possible and
measure POP server performance. All messages sent via Postal have MD5
checksums appended, and Rabid will check the MD5 to ensure that the
messages are not being corrupted.
Changes: This release adds the new program bhm to listen on port 25 and
send mail to /dev/null, removes the name expansion feature (it confused
many people and is not needed now that desktop machines typically have 1G
of RAM), decreases the thread stack size (to save virtual memory size and
increase the number of threads on a 32bit system), adds a minimum message
size option to Postal, adds a Postal option to specify a list of sender
addresses separately from the list of recipient addresses, handles EINTR
to allow ^Z and "bg" from the commandline, and makes the test programs
display output on the minute.

use database API with thread-safe connection pooling. The library can
connect transparently to multiple database systems. It has zero runtime
configuration and connections are specified via a URL scheme.
Changes: This is a feature and bugfix release that adds smart exceptions
