[004] - Auto Project Planner 0.8.1
by don.didi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dondidi/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 18:29
Office/Business
Office/Business :: CRM
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Auto Project Planner automatically calculates a proper project plan
based on your effort estimations and the due dates you have in mind. A list
of tasks and a list of employees can be defined. Tasks can be assigned to
one or more employees. It is also possible to define a maximum percentage
value an employee can/should work on a task. Public holidays, leaves,
weekly working hours, and more parameters can be specified and are
considered in the calculation. According to this input, the software
computes time plans by minimizing the MSE (mean squared error) between
expected and computed end dates.
Changes: With this version, the (improved) HTML export is also displayed
correctly with Firefox and Opera. All known bugs from 0.8 were fixed.

[016] - fastutil 5.0.8
by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 18:32
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.
Changes: New, streamlined versions of fast I/O buffered streams. New
cloning and serialization for array-based structures.

About: This is a simple bash script that will save the results of a "find"
file search as a directory. It supports all the same search criteria as the
find command. Previous searches can be updated without needing to remember
the criteria used. Symlinks are used for results, so minimal disk space is
used.
Changes: This release fixes the update function; if findview was used from
an arbitrary location rather than from your PATH, the findview script could
not be found.

[019] - Firewall Builder 2.1.10
by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 10:31
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX, and FWSM.
Changes: This is a bugfix release. The built-in policy installer has been
fixed, and now properly works with firewall configurations that consist of
several files, specifically PF and ipfilter. The code compiles on systems
where Qt is built without STL support. 64-bit platforms are supported.

About: Mother is a Python module that hides SQL syntax and gives you a set
of intelligent classes and methods that can self-adapt and understand
various situations. It could be considered as an Object Relational Mapper
with strong introspection. In fact, configuration files, tables, fields,
and keys declarations are not needed. It works with PostgreSQL and its
introspective nature is based on PostgreSQL meta queries.
Changes: Mother is now able to work without OIDs. Joining methods now
accept an optional argument to make more advanced queries. The MotherBox
class accepts a new argument to control triggers. The code is cleaner,
more elegant, and optimized.

[039] - OpenVZ kernel 2.6.18-028test018.1 (Development)
by Kir Kolyshkin (http://freshmeat.net/users/k001/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 10:22
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: OpenVZ is a modified Linux kernel with additional support for
OpenVZ Virtual Environments (VE, also known as VPS). VEs are isolated,
secure environments on a single physical server, enabling better server
utilization and ensuring that applications do not conflict. Each VE
performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server; VEs can be
rebooted independently and have root access, users, IP addresses, memory,
processes, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files.
Due to a single kernel model, OpenVZ has native performance and very high
density. It is the core of Virtuozzo.
Changes: Mainstream stable updates up to 2.6.18.8 have been merged. There
is a critical fix in task/UBC handling. There are fixes in ext3, NFS for

Software Development :: Code Generators
About: OpenXava is an XML/Java Framework for rapidly and easily developing
J2EE business applications. It is based on business components defined with
XML. It is feature rich and flexible, since it has been used for years to
create real business applications.
Changes: The OpenXava number version is logged. Composite keys with an int
or long and NUMERIC in the database failed searching in detail mode; this
has been fixed. The methods setYear, setMonth, and setDay have been added
to Dates class. Stereotype IMAGES_GALLERY is shown nicely in Liferay
Portal. The Ant target 'compile' in OpenXava/build.xml has been refined.
Focus is no longer lost inside Liferay when a request is done. Browser
caching of PDF OpenXava generated documents is avoided. Using key
properties of the parent model in a 'from' attribute from an aggregate

[045] - Port Scan Attack Detector 2.0.5
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 00:17
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux Netfilter
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.
Changes: All configuration variables were consolidated into the
/etc/psad/psad.conf file. The kmsgsd.conf, psadwatchd.conf, alert.conf,
and fw_search.conf files were all removed since the daemons just reference
the psad.conf now. A safe_malloc() function was added for kmsgsd.c and
psadwatchd.c to ensure that a single API is used to perform a NULL check
on heap-allocated memory. A bugfix was made to ensure that the psad_ip_len
signature matching keyword is checked withing match_snort_ip_keywords() so
that it applies to all protocol packets.

Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 10:09
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: ProGuard is a free Java class file shrinker, optimizer, and
obfuscator. It can detect and remove unused classes, fields, methods, and
attributes. It can then optimize bytecode and remove unused instructions.
Finally, it can rename the remaining classes, fields, and methods using
short meaningless names. The resulting jars are more compact and more
difficult to reverse-engineer. Advantages of ProGuard compared to other
Java shrinkers and obfuscators are compact template-based configuration,
memory efficiency, and speed.
Changes: The optimization step now correctly processes parameters that are
also used as local variables. The obfuscation step now avoids spurious
conflicting class member names. Incremental obfuscation has been improved.
The documentation and examples have been updated.

About: Tellmatic is a tool to manage and create newsletters for
personalized mailing or mass mailing. Addresses and newsletters are stored
in groups to handle different user groups and thousands of addressses at a
time. SMTP is used for sending the newsletter to your subscribers to make
sure you get all error and bounce messages. Bounces can be handled
automagically via a small bounce-management module with POP3 access. It
also has a small form-editor and statistics. You can import and export
your addresses in CSV format.

[070] - webdiff 20070302
by Stephan Beyer (http://freshmeat.net/users/sbeyer/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 10:18
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: webdiff is a powerful Web page update checker. It supports a
variety of different methods (diff, html, size, date, MD5 sum, regexp)
and only prints the URIs of the Web pages that changed so that its output
can easily be used by other scripts (such as wget or mail).
Changes: In "html" and "diff" mode, ranges can be specified using regular
expressions. This is especially useful for almost static pages with
dynamic parts like "xx users online", time and date, etc. Some bugs were
fixed, especially exception handling. Exit codes are used now to indicate
errors.

[071] - Webmin 1.330
by Jamie Cameron (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcameron/)
Fri, Mar 2nd 2007 10:30
System :: Systems Administration
About: Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix.
Using any browser that supports tables and forms, you can setup user
accounts, internet services, DNS, file sharing and so on.
Changes: If the underlying OS is upgraded after Webmin is installed, it is
detected. A feature has been added to the BIND module for updating an IP
address in multiple zones at once. The File Manager now automatic detects
HTML files and launches the correct editor. The LDAP module's support for
large databases has been improved. When there are too many tables or
databases to display, a menu for selecting a specific table is shown
instead. Functions have been added to ui-lib.pl for tabs and hidden table
sections. Support for comments has been added to the Shorewall module, as
well as improved logging.
