[016] - GNU ddrescue 1.4-rc1 (Development)
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Fri, Jun 1st 2007 10:16
System :: Recovery Tools
About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.
Changes: A new option "--direct" that instructs ddrescue to use direct
disc access to read the input file, bypassing the kernel cache, has been
added. A bug that displayed an incorrect initial error size has been
fixed.

Fri, Jun 1st 2007 06:24
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities
About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.
Changes: This release changes the default changeline_color to white on
blue (which is more readable), fixes a problem on systems where "char" is
unsigned (AIX, Debian PowerPC), and adds a fix for FreeBSD with UTF-8 so
the user can now set the characters to use for borders.

[032] - MyJgui 0.5.2
by verontaka (http://freshmeat.net/users/verontaka/)
Fri, Jun 1st 2007 06:32
Database :: Front-Ends
About: MyJgui is a light-weight graphical user interface for MySQL
databases. It aims to be easy to use for new users as well as experts.
Changes: The view of SQL marks has changed. Users can now see the queries
as tooltips, so the tree is more readable. A new property of connection
has been added, "zeroDateTimeBehavior". This solves the problem of
datetimes with all-zero components (0000-00-00 ...) throwing an exception
such as "java.sql.SQLException: Cannot convert value '0000-00-00 00:00:00'
from column xx to TIMESTAMP".

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
About: Nexuiz is a fast-paced, chaotic, and intense multiplayer
first-person shooter game, focused on providing basic, old style
deathmatch. It is extremely modder-friendly. Nexuiz is built on the power
of the Darkplaces engine, which is a heavily modified version of the
original Quake. Darkplaces features realtime lighting and stencil shadows,
bumpmapping, gloss, bloom, and totally rewritten network code that supports
up to 64 players on a single server.
Changes: This release has improved in all areas. The engine received a
massive overhaul, runs faster, renders more beautifully, introduces
sharper effects, and brings you closer to the action. This release adds
new maps, retouches and rebalances the guns, and reworks most texturing
effects. The new maps, textures, and general additions to Nexuiz have
doubled it since the last release.

[054] - UDAT 1.4.1
by Jan Behrens (http://freshmeat.net/users/jbehrens/)
Fri, Jun 1st 2007 07:41
About: The UDAT ruby library is a parser and generator for UDAT documents,
a data format offering a generic basis for data storage and transmission,
while being both easily readable by humans and machines. It is comparable
to formats like XML or YAML, but due to its simplicity is much easier to
parse. The library includes an easy mechanism to send UDAT objects to
remote machines in order to do remote procedure calls similar to XML-RPC.
Changes: The possible arguments passed to Udat::run_rpc_server are now
different (but backward-compatible). Exceptions due to malformed input to
a TCP port opened by Udat::run_rpc_server are now caught instead of
causing the whole program to terminate if Thread.abort_on_exception is set

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: VULCAN (Viscous Upwind aLgorithm for Complex flow ANalysis) offers
computational fluid dynamics for subsonic speed through hypersonic
turbulent reacting and non-reacting flows on a variety of serial and
parallel computational platforms. The computational cost of propulsion
flow analysis is reduced through the use of special turbulent wall
treatments, multi-grid methods for elliptic and space marching schemes,
and conditioning of the governing equations to reduce numerical stiffness.
Physical modeling capabilities are improved through the inclusion of models
for compressibility, Reynolds stress anisotropies, turbulent diffusivity,
finite rate chemistry, and turbulence/chemistry interaction effects.
VULCAN can simulate two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or axi-symmetric
multi-block problems.
Changes: This release adds logic to force the correct asymptotic behavior
of the turbulence kinetic energy and the turbulence frequency (omega) for
surface cell y+ values that are below the log layer portion of the
boundary layer. It adds the output of reference stagnation conditions and
dynamic pressure. There are numerous bugfixes, code cleanups, and fixes
for setting initial conditions. There are minor GUI enhancements.

by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Fri, Jun 1st 2007 13:49
Communications
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System
About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.
Changes: Support has been added for AFT 301, A101D, and A101DX. For AFT
T1/E1, CAS signaling support has been improved. Compatibility support has
been added for the original A102 config to work with A102D cards. The TDM
API has been updated for an unlimited number of /dev/wptdm devices. The
Hardware Echo Canceler has been updated with noise suppression. The build
system has been updated. The Zaptel patch has been updated to 1.2.17.
