[001] - abcm2ps 5.5.2 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Wed, Aug 22nd 2007 05:59

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release fixes minor layout bugs and introduces compatibility
with ABC2WIN-style line breaks ('!').

System :: Archiving

About: atool is a script for managing file archives of various types (tar,
tar+gzip, zip etc). The main command is aunpack, which extracts files from
an archive. It overcomes the problem of extracting files from an archive
without checking whether the files were located in a subdirectory or in
the top directory of the archive, resulting in files scattered all over
the place by first extracting to a new directory. If there was only a
single file in the archive, that file is moved to the original directory.
It also prevents local files from being overwritten by mistake. The other
commands are apack for creating archives, als for listing files in
archives, and acat for extracting files to standard out.

  by hadji (http://freshmeat.net/users/hadji/)
  Wed, Aug 22nd 2007 14:49

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis

About: The aim of auch is to visualize harmonics in musical recordings.
Many tools show the spectrum, but this tool focuses on one or two specific
octaves with an indication of the tonica (the key) and sub-dominant(IV) and
dominant(V). It also supports wavelet transformation and resampling to
further analyze and clean-up the recording. This way, notes, chords, and
harmonics in a musical piece become more clear. Another feature is that
this tool can compare outgoing audio (from a .wav file) with incoming
audio (microphone). This way, the effect of external filters can be
tested.

Changes: This release adds two tin-can music 'transforms'. The filters
simulate the propagation of the audio through an elastic medium (just like
the rope in a tin can telephone). Critical parameters like damping, pull
force, mass, length, etc. can cause reflections and resonance on the
string. A second device is 'ether': an imaginary tin can telephone-system
with many ropes of different lengths between the two end points.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Drupal is a powerful Web content management system that allows an
individual or community of users to easily publish and maintain a Web
site. Drupal has a large community supporting it that has created many
modules for common tasks that you would want to perform on a Web site.
This JumpBox bundles Drupal version 5.1.

Changes: DHCP is no longer required. The JumpBox console is now an
interactive text application that allows you to set a static IP for your
JumpBox. A bug that failed to properly test write permissions on a backup
volume has been fixed, thus improving the robustness of the backup
mechanism. Apache logs will be saved for 4 weeks rather than 52 weeks.
Drupal has been upgraded to upstream version 5.2. Restoring from 1.0RC1
and newer JumpBox backups should work. An issue with viewing
uploaded/attached files has been resolved. Drupal Crontab has been fixed.

Internet

About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for
dial-up, DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail
exchange server through which all outbound mail flows as defined with
many, if not most, large Internet service providers.

Changes: The ability to mix GreyListing and non-GreyListing functionality
in the same DynaWall server was added. DynaStop was also updated with this
feature. Inline filtering will now receive a valid return code even on
GreyListed IP addresses. Be sure to delete your DynaWall.cache file (file
structure change) before running this version.

which the file is permanently removed from the system. This allows for
automatic cleanup as well, keeping the underlying filesystem in tip-top
shape.

Changes: This release adds a history viewing page (with filter

  Wed, Aug 22nd 2007 10:38

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GluCat is a library of template classes that model the universal
Clifford algebras over the field of real numbers, with arbitrary dimension
and arbitrary signature. It implements a model of each Clifford algebra
corresponding to each non-degenerate quadratic form up to a maximum set by
the user. GluCat classes are designed to be used as template parameters for
other template libraries, such as Blitz++, deal.II, Matrix Template
Library, and POOMA.

Changes: This release uses either dense or compressed matrices. Basis
matrices always use a compressed matrix type. The ublas noalias assignment
has been used where possible. The use of IEEE NaN and IEE Inf has been
improved. The pow() functions and the functions is_contiguous() in
index_set_imp.h and fold() and unfold() in framed_multi_imp.h have been
fixed. GluCat is now licenced using the LGPLv3 or later.

Communications :: File Sharing

About: GSTorrent is a Bittorrent client/server system. A daemon program
handles all the file transfers as a Bittorrent client. The GSTorrent
daemon also acts as a server for an external GUI client. The objective is
to have a relatively small Bittorrent client, which runs on a small
computer without a graphical interface and to control this server from a
different machine. An example of this type of architecture is the mldonkey
client/server system for the edonkey protocol.

Changes: Due to an incorrect encoding of some torrent hashes in version
0004 and below, about 10% of torrents were reported to be unknown by the
trackers. This was fixed. The second important fix solves the settings
problem for the upload and download rates. Both limits are now heeded
correctly by the server. The client got a new torrent selector box. Both
the client and the server were successfully compiled and tested on Mac OS
X.

Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: GUPnP is an object-oriented open source framework for creating UPnP
devices and control points, written in C using GObject and libsoup. The
GUPnP API is intended to be easy to use, efficient, and flexible. The
GUPnP framework consists of two libraries. GSSDP implements resource
discovery and announcement over SSDP, and GUPnP implements the UPnP
specification: resource announcement and discovery, description, control,
event notification, and presentation (basic Web server functionality
through libsoup). GUPnP does not include helpers for construction or
control of specific standardized resources (e.g. MediaServer); this is
left for higher level libraries utilizing the GUPnP framework.

Changes: A new series of functions for sending actions taking hash tables
of parameter name-GValue pairs. New introspection methods for state
variable and action retrieval by name. A new pkg-config file for building
against an uninstalled libgupnp. Improved conversion between GValues and
UPnP value types. This release will only include evented state variables
in the initial event message.

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with fam), XML
(mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb, Evolution, Firefox,
Emacs, LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA
generators include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: Initial support for strigi was added with both metadata
extraction and fulltext search federation. A new Fedora 7 yum repository
was added. A minor fix was made to getImageCache() for better atexit()
functionality. A very minor update was made for XQilla 1.0.1

[056] - roll 1.1.2
  by Matteo Corti (http://freshmeat.net/users/corti/)
  Wed, Aug 22nd 2007 14:21

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: roll is a command-line program that rolls a user-defined dice
sequence and displays the result. The die are defined using dN, where N is
the number of sides. They can be rolled multiple times by prepending the
number of repetitions (e.g., 3d6) and used in simple mathematical
expressions (e.g., 2d8+4).

Changes: A bug in the 1d% percentile dices (values over 100 were possible)
has been fixed.

[057] - rsyslog 1.19.1 (Development)
  by Michael Meckelein (http://freshmeat.net/users/mimeck/)
  Wed, Aug 22nd 2007 06:05

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This is a cleanup and bug fixing release. It fixes a bug which
can lead to a high load closing a remote connection. A potential segfault
on reinit as well as some other bugs were fixed. Further, the unloading of
modules was enhanced. Especially the MySQL output module has been
optimized. The hardcoded module path "/lib/rsyslog" changed to
$(pkglibdir) in order to support 64-bit platforms. This is a recommended
update for all users.

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: XMLSensors is a set of programs that serve as generic plugins to
monitoring systems such as Nagios, Big Brother, Zabbix, and many others.
The sensors output an XML status file for each sensor that is retrieved
and processed by a generic plugin to the monitoring system of your choice.
The XML can be published on a Web server, and transferred via network
shares or SSH. It currently has 2 sensors. phpbb2_version checks the
version of a phpBB forum against the offcial release, and smf_version does
the same for a Simple Machines forum. There's also a dummy sensor that you
can modify yourself.
