[001] - Apache Geronimo 2.0.1
by PatrickBueker (http://freshmeat.net/users/PatrickBueker/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 07:11
About: Apache Geronimo is an easy-to-use implementation of the Java 2
Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). As a full application server,
Geronimo provides support for Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages through
either Tomcat or Jetty, JMS through ActiveMQ, EJB through OpenEJB, Java
Persistence API through OpenJPA, ESB through ServiceMix, and more. It is
also combined with enterprise grade configuration and management. Geronimo
1.1.1 has passed the J2EE certification test suite and it is officially
J2EE certified.
Changes: Apache Geronimo 2.0.1 is the first open source Application Server
to provide two certified JAX-WS Web Services implementations: Apache Axis2
and Apache CXF and also two certified Web container implementations:
Apache Tomcat and Jetty.

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion
About: Bazaar Subversion Plugin is a Bazaar plugin that adds support for
foreign Subversion repositories. This allows committing changes to
Subversion branches as if they were native Bazaar branches.
Changes: Compatibility with Bazaar 0.90 has been fixed. The quality of
error messages has been improved. A bug preventing certain HTTP
repositories from being accessed has been fixed. Rename tracking has been
improved.

[003] - BFilter 1.1.1
by jart (http://freshmeat.net/users/jart/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 06:33
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. Its primary purpose is
removing banner ads. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely
on a list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects
ads using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in Javascript
engine that detects js-generated ads.
Changes: A bug leading to false positives that affected YouTube was fixed.

[004] - Bitgate Server Software Environment 0.5.0
by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 18:31
Internet
About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
environment in which server protocol handlers can be eventually loaded and
unloaded on the fly using a center console or controller Web page. It aims
to have 99.9% uptime, and have high-availability (Java 6) compliance. It
is written in Java 5, and relies completely on Java's I/O functionality to
provide non-blocking support for both SSL and non-SSL sockets
(transparently). All configuration is done via XML files, as this is
easier to maintain. It includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.
Changes: This release includes an extension of Buffer code: a
BufferFactory to handle new Buffer objects. It also includes updates to
HTTP code so that it runs more smoothly, and a "reset" function in the
HttpClientContext object to handle Keep-Alive HTTP requests. It has
updated documentation and adds Javadoc to classes that were missing it.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
About: BlackRoute is another Linux distribution for security and forensics
analysis on x86 compatible architectures. It was originally based on
Slackware. The goal of the project is to create a GNU/Linux distribution
for advanced users, lovers of text tools, network and security
specialists, and system administrators.
Changes: This release is mature enough for a first release candidate. The
2.6 kernel series is supported exclusively. The system was fine-tuned to
get the most out of it. It includes Linux kernel 2.6.20.11 with NDIS
wrapper 1.44, madWiFi, truecrypt, kqemu, and more than 10 implementations
of FUSE. Read/write mode is default for NTFS partitions. The hardware
detection system was improved.

Sun, Aug 26th 2007 17:43
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: BlueProximity helps add a little more security to the desktop. It
does so by detecting a certain Bluetooth device, most likely a mobile
phone, and keeping track of its distance. If it is moved away from the
computer and the distance is above a certain level (no measurement in
meters is possible) for a given time, it automatically locks the desktop
(or starts any other shell command wanted). Once away, the computer awaits
its master's return: if the device is nearer than a given level for a set
time, the computer unlocks without any interaction (or starts any other
shell command wanted).

by Walles (http://freshmeat.net/users/walles/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 06:41
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: The Bubbling Load Monitor (or "Bubblemon" for short) is a system
load monitor for the GNOME panel. It looks like a vial containing water.
The water level indicates how much (electronic) memory is in use. The
color of the liquid indicates how much swap space is used. The amount of
bubbles reflects the system CPU load. A message in a bottle indicates
there is unread mail. A reed-like graph shows network load.
Changes: The Polish translation was updated. A Brazilian Portuguese
translation was added.

Sun, Aug 26th 2007 14:42
Text Processing
About: cdlabelgen is a Perl script that generates printouts suitable for
use as CD/DVD labels, jewel case inserts, or envelopes. Both normal sized
cases and slim cases are handled. cdlabelgen can be used to create table
of contents for music CDs, archival CDs, DVDs, etc., with customizable
logos or background images, and it generates PostScript files as output.
The package also includes a Perl CGI Web script which accepts JPEG images
as logos or backgrounds, and can also create PDF output files.
Changes: An overlay image can be printed at the bottom-right corner of the
tray using the --tray-overlay options. This can be used with the

by feresPost (http://freshmeat.net/users/feresPost/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 01:40
Scientific/Engineering
About: feresPost is a Ruby extension that provides the definition of
classes and modules devoted to the development of automated
post-processing for Nastran or Samcef finite element results. The library
allows easy manipulation of finite element models, groups, and results.
Efficient post-processing is possible because the time-consuming
operations are written in C/C++.
Changes: "NastranDb" and "SamcefDb" classes inheriting the "DataBase"
class have been added. This allows a better separation of methods specific
to Nastran or Samcef. Some methods defined in "Post" module have been
displaced in the new classes. A few bugs and reading of new Samcef result
codes were corrected.

Sun, Aug 26th 2007 07:15
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI
About: GENPO (GENeral Purpose Organ) is a program which replicates the
essential features of any pipe, theatre, or reed organ. It reads a
description of an organ (a .org XML file) and presents a suitable user
interface for operating that organ. There are a number of high quality
organ "SoundFonts" freely available and the .org file maps the stop sounds
to organ manuals and stops. Other facilities such and couplers and presets
are available. You may connect one or more MIDI keyboards to GENPO to
provide the organ manuals, and you can even assign one to be the
'pedalboard' if so desired.
Changes: This release brings one major improvement: GENPO can now provide
up to 32 channels of output (i.e. simultaneous stops pulled) if your setup
can handle that. There were many other minor improvements throughout the
code. The license was changed to GPL v3. No changes were made to the .org
DTD/file syntax, so the reference organ still has a version number of
0.9.5.

About: mon is a tool for monitoring the availability of services and
sending alerts on prescribed events. Services are defined as anything
tested by a "monitor" program, which can be something as simple as pinging
a system, or as complex as analyzing the results of an application-level
transaction. Alerts are actions such as sending email, making submissions
to ticketing systems, or triggering resource fail-over in a
high-availability cluster.

[034] - mp3fs transcoding FUSE filesystem 0.10
by David Collett (http://freshmeat.net/users/daveco/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 06:06
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
System :: Filesystems
About: MP3FS is a read-only FUSE filesystem that transcodes FLAC audio
files to MP3 on the fly when opened and read. It is useful to enable the
use of your FLAC collection with software and/or hardware that only
understands MP3s. It is also a novel alternative to traditional MP3
encoder applications. Just use your favorite file browser to select the
files you want encoded, and copy them somewhere.
Changes: The command line parameters were changed to support mounting from
fstab. A minor memory leak was fixed. The license was updated to GPLv3.
This is considered a stable release.

by Teri (http://freshmeat.net/users/tekniklr/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 14:41
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: This is a set of basic scripts to maintain a webcomic using PHP,
without needing a database. It supports adding new comics, associating
news posts with comics, gallery art, and a rant section, all using a basic
Web administration interface. It's relatively simple, but gets the job
done. It has been in use on several sites since 2002 without many
problems.
Changes: This release adds an RSS feed for comic updates and a title
configuration variable to the config file. All include files have been
renamed to have a 'comic_' prefix. The code has been updated slightly,
changing all instances of HTTP_POST_VARS, HTTP_GET_VARS, and
HTTP_POST_FILES to their current incarnations.

[037] - NSPluginWrapper 0.9.91.5
by Gwenole Beauchesne (http://freshmeat.net/users/gbeauche/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 14:38
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
About: NSPluginWrapper is a cross-platform Netscape 4 (NPAPI) compatible
plugins viewer. It makes it possible to use plugins that are not available
yet to a specific platform. For example, you can use the Adobe Flash Player
9 (Linux/i386) plugin on Linux/x86_64, NetBSD, and FreeBSD platforms along
with a native JVM in the same browser.
Changes: Support for plugins using the XEMBED protocol, in particular
Flash Player 9 Update 3, is improved. Focus problems whereby mouse clicks
were lost or keys grabbed from other windows are now fixed. Support for
64-bit plugins and compatibility with broken 64-bit Konqueror versions
were added.

[038] - nss-ldapd 0.3
by Arthur (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiearthur/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 14:43
System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration
About: nss-ldapd is a (glibc) NSS module for doing name lookups to an LDAP
server. This module allows retrieval of information about Unix accounts,
groups, hosts, and other information from an LDAP directory. It is a fork
from the nss_ldap module to do some architectural changes. This
implementation splits the functionality into an NSS part and a local
daemon to do the lookups. This works around a number of problems in the
original implementation.
Changes: This release still focuses on code improvements, but also
contains some fixes and feature improvements. Bugs in the communications
buffer handling and in the init script were fixed. Compile-time and
configuration settings were simplified, which makes the config file format
no longer compatible with PADL nss_ldap. Big improvements were made to the
manual pages and other documentation. This release should be usable for
most common environments, although handling of unavailability of the LDAP
server is still not very elegant.

[040] - pandoc 0.42

Sun, Aug 26th 2007 14:41
Text Processing :: Markup
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: Pandoc is a Haskell library for converting from one markup format
to another, and a command-line tool that uses this library. It can read
markdown and (subsets of) reStructuredText, HTML, and LaTeX, and it can
write markdown, reStructuredText, HTML, LaTeX, DocBook, RTF, and S5 HTML
slide shows. Pandoc extends standard markdown syntax with footnotes,
embedded LaTeX, and more. A compatibility mode is provided for those who
need a drop-in replacement for Markdown.pl. Included wrapper scripts make
it easy to convert markdown to PDFs and Web pages to markdown documents.
It has a modular design where the addition of a new input or output format
requires only the addition of a reader or writer module.
Changes: Several bugs were fixed in ordered lists, LaTeX footnotes,
include files, and HTML tables. Text.Pandoc.ASCIIMathML was exposed. A new
rule was added for enhanced ordered lists: capital letters followed by
periods must be separated from the list item by two spaces to avoid
misinterpretation of initials. OS X packages are no longer supported due
to issues with dynamic libraries. Instead, a MacPorts Portfile is now
provided.

[050] - SQL DjB DNS 0.73
by Radim Kolar (http://freshmeat.net/users/hsn/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 07:16
About: SQL DjB DNS provides djbdns servers with an SQL backend.
Authoritative DNS serves its records directly from an SQL database, and
caching DNS uses an SQL database as its long term storage. This makes it
better suited for dial-up users than BIND. Currently only PostgreSQL is
supported, but other backends can be easily added.
Changes: The SQL code was updated for PostgreSQL 8.0 and later. The
patches to the included djbdns were were refreshed and now include
IPignore v2, SRV record patch, DUMPCACHE, and Jumbo. This can be compiled
without SQL support.

About: xcalib loads the 'vcgt'-tag of ICC/ICM color profiles to the X-
server, in order to calibrate the user's display by tweaking the LUTs in
the video card. Users need a profile which contains the 'vcgt' tag to
achieve monitor calibration with the video card's LUTs. These profiles can
be created with most commercial profile creation programs. For testing
purposes, some profiles are added to the tarball.
Changes: gl.tter's patch for Win32 multi-monitor support and bleader's
patch for FGLRX multi-monitor support have been applied. Support for LUTs
bigger than that in the profile has been added. Linear interpolation is

[057] - Zerotools 0.1.2
by Aleksandr Koltsoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/czr/)
Sun, Aug 26th 2007 06:34
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Systems Administration
About: Zerotools are a set of tools to aid keeping virtual disks clean by
filling binary zero to those regions which are no longer in "use". This is
done on-the-fly or manually, depending on which tool suits the needs best.
The tools do not compete with other programs that rewrite removed files in
order to make their restoration close to impossible. Zerotools are mostly
useful for people who compress or archive virtual machines constantly. The
tools are run inside the virtualized Linux system and are
distribution-agnostic.
Changes: This is a "brown paper bag" release which fixes a long-standing
misfeature of zero writes not hitting underlying storage devices. It also
includes other performance enhancements, which should lead to better
compression of VM disks.
