[003] - BloodsPilot Server 1.4.1
  by Kristian Söderblom (http://freshmeat.net/users/ksoderbl/)
  Tue, Oct 23rd 2007 07:23

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: BloodsPilot Server is an optimized server for a 2D space game. It
is a new version of a classic Unix game, XPilot. It features a novel,
flicker free, high FPS view of the game, while preserving the original
game physics and playability. The server is dedicated to running maps
without extra items, instead focusing on running maps like "Blood's
Music", where ship control skills, teamplay and tactics matter most. To
play the game, the user must have an XPilot client to connect to the
server.

Changes: This release focuses on making frame update packets sent to
clients smaller. In addition, there are improvements related to joining
the game and swapping teams. The default map is now the Blood's Music map
used in the latest XPilot Teamcup.

configurable notification system reminds the user of upcoming deadlines,
and the curses based interface can be customized to suit user needs. All
of the commands are documented within an online help system.

Changes: This is a major code cleanup release, but new features were also
added, together with minor bugfixes. Concerning feature enhancements, moon
phases are now calculated, and automatic window resizing is now performed.
Bugfixes include current day automatic update inside calendar panel. A
Dutch translation was added.

About: CDnavigator is an application that files your CDs and DVDs in a
database. It also deposits information about photos (JPEG), music (MP3),
and films stored in such media. You can also store other metadata such as
notes and ratings. You can search over all items and save the choices.
CDnavigator supports an automatic cache that saves the most frequently
used data on hard disk. Photos can be viewed directly in the application.
It can download new photos from a camera, sort them into albums, and
prepare them for burning on CD.

Changes: GUI improvements. Installer improvements. DBmanager improvements.
Works better with photos and cameras. Better scanning of CDs. OGG support.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.

Changes: All speed limitations may be disabled by setting the environment
variable CDR_FORCESPEED to "any". The drive buffer size recognition was
changed so that cdrecord now shows correct size values even for the LG
GSA-H55N. DVD-RW/DL may now be blanked. The "out-fd=descriptor" option was
added to cdda2wav, and allows the user to redirect informational output to
a file descriptor other than stderr. A core dump with mkisofs in the
Joliet code caused by the new Apple UDF extensions is now avoided.

  Tue, Oct 23rd 2007 02:33

System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Filesystems

About: Chiron FS is a FUSE based filesystem that implements replication at
the filesystem level like RAID 1 does at the device level. The replicated
filesystem may be of any kind you want; the only requisite is that you
mount it. There is no need for special configuration files; the setup is
as simple as one mount command (or one line in fstab).

Changes: A vulnerability where an unprivileged user was able to touch a
file which it did not have the rights to write was fixed along with a
readlink bug where the number of bytes of the linked filename was being
incorrectly reported. An issue in function access where the ruid and rgid
of the caller process was not checked, but rather that of the mounting
user was fixed. A memory leak was fixed.

System :: Filesystems
System :: Logging

About: loggerfs is a FUSE-based virtual file system that automatically
parses log files and sends that information to a MySQL or PostgreSQL
database. Existing log parsers usually run periodically and scan the
entire file for changes. loggerfs takes a different approach by providing
a virtual file system. Whenever data is appended to a virtual file by the
logging daemon, the information is directly stored in the database. There
is no need to poll the file and monitor for changes.

Changes: There is now some good documentation on how to install and use
loggerfs. This release features man pages, MySQL caching, various
improvements, and .deb packages for those using an OS that supports the
Debian package manager.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Embedded Systems

About: Shttp is a simple, partial HTTP/1.1 implementation built using the
ServerKit framework. It's a little over 1000 lines of code, and serves
well as a minimal lightweight HTTP server in closed/controlled/static
content settings, as well as a learning tool for those interested in
developing TCP-service-providing modules using ServerKit. Illustrating how
easy it is to build efficient server programs using ServerKit, this module
has demonstrated 7200 requests/second in AB benchmarks.

Changes: Much needed 404/403/400/301 response codes were added, making the
server much more courteous to the browser in error situations. This release
also added redirection when the URI maps to a directory but lacks a
trailing '/'. Previously, any relative HREFs in the document would be
broken due to a missing '/'.

[044] - Zoph 0.7.1 (Pre-release)

  Tue, Oct 23rd 2007 14:15

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: There are many photo-gallery programs available. Zoph is different,
as it concentrates on the management of large collection of photos instead
of just showing them on the Web. It can store a lot of information about
your photos, including the regular EXIF info, photographer, location,
title, description, rating, and the people in the photo. Photos can appear
in multiple albums and categories. Additional features include search,
slideshows, lightboxes, email, access privileges, and multiple languages.

Changes: This is an interim "feature" release that offers a preview on a
few of the new features that will be available in 0.8. The most notable
changes are more configurable options to watermarks (position and amount
of transparency), the ability to download a set of photos in a ZIP file,
and some improvement to the thumbnails for albums, categories, and places.
Although this release was tested as well as possible, it is not a "stable"
release, and you should continue using 0.7.0.2 if you are not comfortable
using an unstable version.
