Education

About: AlefMentor is online training manager. It makes it easy for you to
create your online courses. All users of the system can communicate with
each other. There is no limit on the number of courses, instructors,
students, or administrators in the system. An online management system is
provided for administrators, students, instructors, and consumers. It is
very easy to create, update, and select courses.

Changes: The functionality of Event Manager was added. Event Manager
allows teachers and administrators of the system to manage events within
the LMS. Events are visible to all users of the system and they are
presented and selectable from the year calendar. Event Manager is a tool
planned to be used as a "Public Board" where new events on the system can
be introduced. It can be a very useful tool for teachers and
administrators to plan and organize their events as well as for students
to inform themselves about different activities of the system.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Baldrick Application Framework is a library of Perl 5 modules
to provide Web application functionality: session management,
URL-to-handler mapping, user loading, authentication and authorization,
database connectivity and querying, and template-based output generation.
It is a tool for programmers to use in building their own Web applications

[006] - Big Faceless Graph Library 2.3.3
  by BFO (Big Faceless Organization)
  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 01:50

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Big Faceless Graph Library is a Java class library for creating
graphs and charts. It is backed by a full 3D engine, allowing you to create
shaded 3D pie, bar, and line graphs as GIF, PDF, PNG, or other image
formats. Its features include transparent backgrounds, extensible axes to
graph dates, currencies, custom fonts, and spline curve fitting. It is
small, fast, and easy to use.

Changes: The position of BarSeries markers when plotted against a DateAxis
was fixed. A problem when plotting dates on one axis against times on
another in non-UTC timezones was fixed. An exception when plotting striped
backing paints against a top axis was fixed. A NaN error when plotting a
LineGraph with only a single point was fixed.

[007] - BlockHosts 2.1.1
  by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 22:54

System :: Networking

About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times a local system is
attacked, based on configurable scanning of system logs for sshd or other
services. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is blocked using hosts.allow files,
or by using null-routing, or by using packet filtering. An email
notification facility is also available.

Changes: An ipblock option replaces the old iptables/iproute options, with
the additional ability to accept a full pathname for iptables/ip route
commands. Blockfile IP addresses with time strings that Python fails to
parse are now handled by changing the time of IP address access to now,
instead of exiting.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Ecere SDK is a cross-platform toolkit for building software
applications. It currently runs on Windows and Linux. With the Ecere SDK,
you can develop applications once and deploy them on all supported

  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 11:23

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Exiv2 is an EXIF and IPTC C++ library that makes reading and
writing Exif and Iptc metadata easy. It provides full Exif makernote and
thumbnail support. The Exiv2 command line utility prints Exif and Iptc
metadata including Makernote tags in various formats, adjusts Exif
timestamps, renames images according to the Exif timestamp, extracts and
inserts Exif and Iptc metadata and JPEG comments, or deletes the thumbnail
or a specific type of metadata from an image.

Changes: This is a pre-release of the upcoming Exiv2 0.16 with XMP
support. Adding XMP metadata to an image is now just as easy as adding
EXIF or IPTC tags. In addition, support for Olympus ORF images and Pentax
makernotes has been added.

[018] - fcron 3.0.4 (Stable)
  by Thibault Godouet (http://freshmeat.net/users/fcron/)
  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 01:05

System

About: Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing
vixie cron, so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume
that your system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for
instance, tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system
uptime or to do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can
also set a nice value to a job, run it depending on the system load
average, and much more.

Changes: The random option has been improved. A new option, erroronlymail,
has been added so that an email is sent only when the job exits with a
failure status. Some cleanup on the file closures has been done, which
should remove the problems some users would see when jobs were executed.

About: Fotox is a program for improving digital photos. Navigate through
large image directories using a window of thumbnail images. Create HDR
(high dynamic range) images by combining bright and dark images to improve
details visible in both bright and dark areas. Create panorama (extra wide)
images by joining overlapped images. Adjust brightness and color intensity
independently for different underlying brightness levels. Reduce fog or
haze by removing "whiteness" and intensifying colors. Rotate an image
(level a tilted image or turn 90 degrees). Remove the red-eye effect from
electronic flash photos. Resize or crop an image.

Changes: HDR imaging: contribution from each input image can be adjusted
independently for multiple brightness bands. HDR imaging: a live preview
window with feedback as adjustments are made. Panorama: uses lens focal
length instead of synthetic curve parameters. JPEG output files: the
ability to set quality vs. compression tradeoff.

System :: Archiving :: Packaging

About: Frogz is a modular script for packaging under Linux Slackware. It
allows you to package your software with a generic process that can be
adapted at every step according to the specific needs of the software.

Changes: The 'fgz' command was split into several ones (fgzadd, fgzbuild,
fgzdel, fgzexport, fgzimport, fgzjump, fgzmod, and frogz) so that the
distinction between primary and secondary options doesn't exist anymore.
The '@' build syntax was also removed, so from now on all the options are
introduced by the classic "-". The 'rainette' install script was rewritten
in shell with some new features (and some useless ones were removed). This

[025] - Hotwire 0.600
  by Colin Walters (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinwalters/)
  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 01:49

Software Development

About: Hotwire is a Python-based, object oriented, cross-platform command
execution shell. Hotwire is not a terminal emulator, nor is it something
you can set as your Unix "login shell". Instead, Hotwire unifies the
concepts of shell and terminal and can natively do about 80-90% of what
one would normally do in a terminal and shell; for the rest, Hotwire can
embed VTE. Hotwire's object-oriented nature is influenced by Windows
PowerShell. Hotwire provides a modern command interface for developers and
system administrators to interact with the computer.

Changes: Basic input to system commands is now supported (press Ctrl-I).
Drag and drop works for files in FilePathRenderer? (ls/cd).

About: The mod_w2ml Apache module is a W2ML processor. W2ML (Web 2 Markup
Language) is a declarative markup language that extends XHTML with XML
namespaces to make it possible to edit Web pages in the browser. W2ML
handles server-side inclusion, access control, element-level editing, and
templatized editing (WYSIWYG editing of structured data like list items,
guestbooks, forums, and more). W2ML is processed on the server side and
requires no browser plugin.

Changes: The Apache module has been ported to Windows. To simplify
installation and provide UTF-8 support, Expat and PCRE libraries are now
statically linked to the module distributed in .tar.gz and .zip files.
Various bugs in the module initialization and cleanup phases have been
corrected (portability, crash on restart after install). The big thread

  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 01:55

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Postoffice is a simple SMTP mail server and client written with
spam blocking in mind. It provides a greylist to slow down the rate of
incoming spam, and can be configured to do antivirus checking on incoming
mail either via the sendmail milter protocol or a traditional hard-coded
AV program. Postoffice can be configured to deliver mail to accounts
inside vm-pop3d-style virtual domains, and it can further be enabled to
support AUTH LOGIN for people inside virtual domains, so they can use
postoffice as a mail forwarder when replying to mail. Postoffice accepts
(and ignores) many of the same command line options that are passed to
sendmail, and it comes with the usual crop of sendmail compatable aliases;

[052] - Regex Policy Daemon 1.0rc1 (Development)
  by Christian Thäter (http://freshmeat.net/users/cehteh/)
  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 11:22

Internet

About: The RegexPolicyDaemon (rxpd) can be used to efficiently check data
against different lists of regular expressions. This can be used to build
application defined lists to protect many kinds of Internet services.
These lists can be distributed peer to peer between friends. Users can
update, filter, and merge these distributed lists to create their own
lists. It uses a simple textual protocol that is easy to implement in
scripting languages. Example usages are access and content control (spam
filtering) for CGI scripts, wikis, email, revision control systems, IRC
servers and clients, and so on.

Changes: Some minor protocol changes. CLEAR removes all rules from a list
now, and DELETE removes a list from the filesystem. Rule files are now
automatically loaded when first referenced. Automatic saving of files (due
SIGALRM or shutdown) saves only files that already exist on disk. Locking
has been fixed and reworked. LIST only lists files that are allowed to be
dumped. The rxpd xchat plugin is merged under ./contrib as an example
application.

[correctly].

Changes: After confirming that "make install" will work without destroying
anything, slackmake will now change to root, create the package, and clean
up the root-owned files. The new file slackpkg is called by slackmake
automatically.

[055] - SPT Relational Database Web Tool 1.2
  by Sans Pareil Technologies, Inc.
  Fri, Nov 9th 2007 22:57

About: The SPT Relational Database Web Tool (RWT) is a simple application
that can help developers connect to databases configured as a DataSource
in the application server or directly through JDBC. The RWT application
attempts to replicate basic features found in the popular Aqua Data Studio
application. Per user settings (saved connection parameters, saved
queries), single and batch query processing, a history browser, multiple
query browsers, a tree view of database metadata, and other features are
supported. Full source code is available.

Changes: The Oracle data dictionary is now used instead of information
schema for Oracle databases. Export to Excel was implemented in the batch
query processor and pagination of result sets was implemented in the batch
query executor.

[056] - TurtolCMS 0.5.18
  by Turtol LLC (http://freshmeat.net/users/turtol/)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: TurtolCMS is a powerful, flexible Web content management system.
With it, you can manage every aspect of your Web content directly from
your Web browser with intuitive editing tools. TurtolCMS does not restrict
you with a template, but allows a designer full freedom to build any
desired look and then gracefully re-use that design consistently for any
new content that is added.

Changes: The previous tar.gz package files were missing key resource
files, so this has been resolved. Numerous bugs were fixed. Images smaller
than 68 by 68 pixels can now be uploaded. Validation was improved
throughout the editor. HTML entities are now properly handled by the
editor. An issue with the order of widget rendering was resolved. A few
other fixes were made. A "Paste from Word" button was added to the editor
and the setup process of the TurtolCMS was improved.

simple character markup, hyperlinking and is highly customizable. It
recognizes some of the apparent structure of the source document (mostly
whitespace and typographic layout) and attempts to mark that structure
explicitly using HTML.

Changes: Fixes to XHTML output and documentation updates.
