Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Multimedia :: Video
About: Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is aimed at
providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video
documents (movies, courses, conferences, etc.), as well as tools to edit
and visualize the hypervideos generated from both the annotations and the
audiovisual documents. Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange
multimedia comments and analyses about video documents. The project also
aims at studying the way that communities of users (teachers, moviegoers,
students, etc.) will use these self-publishing tools to share their
audiovisual "readings", and to envision new editing and viewing interfaces
for interactive comment and analysis of audiovisual content.
Changes: Along with the usual usability enhancements, this version offers
a new ActiveBookmarks view that allows you to create annotations through
the definition and interactive reorganization of bookmarks. The play/pause
shortcut has been changed to Control-Tab in order not to interfere with
standard shortcut behavior. New actions are available in dynamic views:
Braille (braille output of annotations), OpenStaticView, and state-related
actions.

About: ll-plugins is a small collection of LV2 plugins and a host that
runs them. All plugins are installed in separate LV2 bundles (except the
ones that are closely related, like the math-constant plugins or the mono
and stereo versions of the peak meter). The GUIs, for the plugins that
have GUIs, are installed in bundles of their own to make it easier for
packagers to put them in separate binary packages to avoid Gtk
dependencies for the plugins themselves. There are synths, event
processors, simple audio and control manipulators and GUI-based plugins.

System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: Melas is an uncomplicated build and packaging tool. It is used to
compile software and create installable package files. Melas can be used
to reliably reproduce builds and perform dependency tracking.
Cross-compilation is supported through integration with Sbox2.
Changes: Dependency strings generated by mls-build were made compatible
with Debian/Ubuntu. Compilation of mls files can be skipped based on
user-specified rules. fakeroot was integrated for install/installer
targets. The default configure, build, and install targets now check if
appropriate files are present. A minor bug affecting the -config command
line parameter pathname resolving was fixed.

[032] - MinorFs 0.2.0
by Ghede (http://freshmeat.net/users/Ghede/)
Wed, May 21st 2008 16:22
Security
System :: Filesystems
About: MinorFS combines a small set of cooperating userspace filesystems
for Linux that provide private storage to pseudo persistent processes.
This allows programs that are run by a user to keep some data safe from
all potential malware that runs with all this users' privileges. It
further implements simple password capabilities as a way to explicitly
share access with other processes or users.
Changes: The main change is the support for using interpreted code with
Minorfs. The previous version always saw scripts or Java programs as
instances of the interpreter, instead of allowing scripts and Java
programs to be persistent processes of their own right. Interpreters
require the creation of a config file that defines how to identify unique
scripts or programs. Some efficiency patches have been made, private temp
dirs have been added, and ViewFs/ CapFs coupling has been made less strong
by using symlinks from ViewFs to CapFs, and letting ViewFs be defined by
just two symlinks.

[033] - Nagios 2.12 (2.x)
by Ethan Galstad (http://freshmeat.net/users/nagios/)
Wed, May 21st 2008 10:21
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Nagios (formerly Netsaint) is a daemon written in C that is
designed to monitor networked hosts and services. It has the ability to
notify contacts (via email, pager or other methods) when problems arise
and are resolved. Host and service checks are performed by external
"plugins", making it easy to write custom checks in your language of
choice. Several CGIs are included in order to allow you to view the
current and historical status via a Web browser, and a WAP interface is
also provided to allow you to acknowlege problems and disable
notifications from an internet-ready cellphone.
Changes: Minor bugfixes in CGIs to ensure extra host/servicegroup URL
strings are terminated properly. Patches for a possible XSS vulnerability
in CGIs (CVE-2007-5803).

[034] - Name Server Configurator 3.1
by Martin Mares (http://freshmeat.net/users/mj/)
Wed, May 21st 2008 13:21
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: NSC is a set of utilities for easy administration of DNS servers.
You write very simple configuration files and NSC automatically generates
zone files, reverse zone files, and configuration for the BIND. Among
other things, it also supports classless reverse delegations and IPv6
addressing. NSC is written in POSIX shell and GNU M4, and it should run on
all systems where these two languages are available. Generation of DNS
daemon config files is currently limited to BIND 8 or 9, but it's very
easy to add your own config file generators for other daemons.
Changes: The scripts have been updated to run with recent versions of GNU
m4. Support for RP, TXT, and SRV records has been added.

[036] - nut 13.8
by Jim Jozwiak (http://freshmeat.net/users/jozwiak/)
Wed, May 21st 2008 02:13
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your
meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the latest USDA
Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. This database contains values
for vitamins, minerals, fats, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber,
etc., and includes the essential polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and
Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed as a percentage of the Daily Value,
the familiar standard of food labeling in the United States, but also can
be fully customized. Foods can be added from recipes or food labels, and
nutrient intake can be graphed. The program is completely menu-driven and
there are no commands to learn.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in the "Add a Labeled Food" function
where, when reverse-engineering the formulation of a packaged food, it
would not honor the descending quantities of the ordered ingredient list.

by david a thompson (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomp/)
Wed, May 21st 2008 16:25
Text Processing :: General
About: otl is a text processor for generating custom markup from plain
text. Much of both the input and output formats can be customized. LaTeX
and HTML support are included in the distribution. One can specify other
output formats, if desired. The user can also specify another input format
if the default input format (roughly similar to that of asciidoc) does not
meet his/her needs. otl supports complex structures such as nested ordered
lists, headers and footers, and tables.
Changes: This release includes one significant bug fix (a parameter line
specifying empty strings would bring otl 0.53 to its knees). The release
also includes some minor updates reducing unnecessary queries to the user
and some minor updates to the documentation.
