Information Management

About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: The following utilities are now working: tracebackLoggingOn,
tracebackLoggingOff, listDbs, and blockUpdates.

[002] - AKFAvatar 0.15.1
  by Andreas K. Foerster (http://freshmeat.net/users/AKFoerster/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 12:23

Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
Utilities

About: AKFAvatar is software where an image of an avatar appears on the
screen and tells things written in a balloon. First the avatar moves slowly
in from the right side, then text is shown in a balloon. The program
avatarsay can be used as a fancy terminal emulator, or as a fancy text
reader or man page viewer. Furthermore, the program supports some basic
commands, so it can be used as a scripting language for simple demos. You
can use the libakfavatar library from your own C programs. There is also a
rather mature Pascal binding for GNU Pascal and Free Pascal.

Changes: The terminal mode supports some more escape sequences, and the
annoying line-editing bug was fixed. When you move the mouse over the menu,
you get some visual feedback now. In the filechooser dialog, you can go
back and forth.

[003] - ALE 0.9.0.1 (Testing)
  by David Hilvert (http://freshmeat.net/users/dhilvert/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 00:30

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ALE is an image-processing program used for tasks such as
super-resolution, deblurring, noise reduction, and anti-aliasing. Its
principle of operation is synthetic capture, combining multiple inputs
representing the same scene.

Changes: This testing release adds support for regional adjustment of tone
(e.g., for varying lighting conditions), includes various multi-alignment
fixes and updates, and adds a man page.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server; a "Home Digital
Assistant," or HDA. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server distribution targeted
for home and home office environments. It provides calendaring, a wiki,
shared network storage, network backups, printer server, VPN, and a plug-in
architecture.

Changes: The ability to have the dashboard page images (as well as the
logo image) in the themes (as opposed to them being in the platform
software) has been added. This update adds platform version 0.93, iHama
theme 1.2, and agedashi theme 1.4. This should give more flexibility to
theme authors.

[005] - AMOP 0.31.3
  by rdescartes (http://freshmeat.net/users/rdescartes/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 12:18

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: AMOP is an automatic mock object for C++. By using ABI and template
techniques, it can simulate a pseudo-"Reflection" which is normally not
supported in C++. The main differences between AMOP and other mock object
libraries is that users do not need to implement the interface of the
object to be mocked.

Changes: Minor bugs were fixed. Some enhancements were made.

  by Scarfy (http://freshmeat.net/users/Scarfy/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 08:26

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer is a 3rd person action shooter. With
the apparent defeat of Galdov and the reclaiming of the Fire, Time, Space,
and Reality Crystals, the Blobs' battle was only just beginning. Bob had
rescued many Blobs and fought many battles, but now he had an ever bigger
task ahead of him. The Blobs' homeworld is still littered with the alien
forces and Bob once again makes it his task to lead the counter attack. But
even without Galdov the aliens are still extremely well organised.

Changes: The Mastermind mini-game now works in all screen resolutions.
Enemies will no longer walk off edges and drown themselves. Blobs will no
longer get stuck while attempting to get food. Allied Blobs will no assist
the player by attacking mission targets. Manually aiming was fixed so that
it works underwater. There were also a few level tweaks and bugfixes.

  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 18:25

Software Development

About: bpython is an enhanced Python interactive interpreter that uses
curses and provides the following main features: in-line syntax
highlighting; readline-like autocompletion with suggestions displayed as
you type; expected argument specification for functions; a handy pastebin
function to quickly submit your code and return a URL. Its goal is to bring
together a few handy ideas to enhance the standard interpreter without
getting carried away.

Changes: This release cleans up the code and fixes several bugs that could
cause bpython to crash due to autocompletion drama. It also properly
returns control to the terminal on the event of a traceback. There is
general clean-up of some code.

About: ctrlproxy is an IRC server with multiserver support. It runs as a
daemon and connects to a number of IRC servers, then allows you to connect
from a workstation and work as the user that is logged in to the IRC
server. After you disconnect, it maintains the connection to the server. It
acts like any normal IRC server, so you can use any IRC client to connect
to it. It supports multiple client connections to one IRC server (under the
same nick), allowing you to connect to IRC using your IRC nick, even while
you have an IRC session open somewhere else. It supports logging (in any
user-specified format), password authentication, and CTCP (in case no
clients are connected). IRC servers can be contacted over IPv6 and/or
using SSL. Automatic identification with NickServ is supported, as well as
various types of backlog.

Changes: Support for listening on IPv6 addresses was fixed. SSL client
support was improved. Handling of several response codes was fixed.

[028] - GNUnet 0.8.0
  by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 11:55

Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and can
currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP (IPv4
and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to provide
contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build on top of
the framework is anonymous file sharing.

Changes: This release adds support for Google-style searches and for
ranking search results by availability. An improved search protocol gathers
more search results and better datastore implementations return more
diverse search results while maintaining scalability. Naming of namespaces
and pseudonyms was made more user-friendly. Added features include a new
integrated hostlist server and a new tool, gnunet-auto-share, for automatic
sharing of files in directories. Many other bugfixes and minor improvements
were also done.

[029] - GREYCstoration 2.9
  by Rodrigo Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/skrull/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 10:57

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors

About: GREYCstoration is an image regularization algorithm that processes
an image by locally removing small variations of pixel intensities while
preserving significant global image features, such as sharp edges and
corners. The most direct application is denoising. By extension, it can
also be used to inpaint or resize images. It is based on methods using
nonlinear multi-valued diffusion PDEs (Partial Differential Equations) for
image regularization. This kind of method generally outperforms basic
image filtering techniques (such as convolution, median filtering, etc.)
classically encountered in painting programs. Other image denoising
plugins are available, but are not free, and the corresponding algorithms
are kept secret.

Changes: A new image cleaning mode was added (for the command-line only).
It is based on diffusion PDEs on image patch space. It gives quite
interesting denoising results when parameters are set correctly, sometimes
better than with the traditional "-denoise" method.

  by Arthur (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiearthur/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 18:24

System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration

About: nss-ldapd is a (glibc) NSS module for doing name lookups to an LDAP
server. This module allows retrieval of information about Unix accounts,
groups, hosts, and other information from an LDAP directory. It is a fork
from the nss_ldap module to do some architectural changes. This
implementation splits the functionality into an NSS part and a local daemon
to do the lookups. This works around a number of problems in the original
implementation.

Changes: This release fixes a number of bugs in the 0.6.2 release and
tries to focus on stability. Some more improvements to the retry and
fail-over mechanism have been made, and support for groups with up to
around 150000 members has been added. The nslcd daemon can now be run under
a separate user and group, and SASL authentication has been improved.

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: RLog provides a flexible message logging facility for C++ programs
and libraries. It is subscription based, meaning you can subscribe to
messages of your choice in an number of ways: by hierarchical channel name
(e.g. "debug", "debug/ special", "error", etc.), or filename, component
name, etc. Log messages are individually enabled. It is meant to be fast
enough to leave in production code - even where it may be called many
times, as both the GCC and Intel compilers reduce the logging overhead a
few clock cycles if they are dormant (with no subscribers). Other add-on
components can extend subscriptions to external programs, allowing you to
enable and collect debugging messages remotely.

Changes: Updates were made to compile with gcc 4.x or VC8. It is now
easier to use in dynamic modules. Thread safety was improved.

System :: Archiving :: Packaging

About: The RPM Package Manager (RPM) is a powerful command line driven
package management system capable of installing, uninstalling, verifying,
querying, and updating software packages. Each software package consists of
an archive of files along with information about the package like its

files. These development files will simplify the process of writing
programs which manipulate RPM packages and databases and are intended to
make it easier to create graphical package managers or any other tools that
need an intimate knowledge of RPM packages in order to function.

Changes: This release includes rpmrepo (to generate repository metadata),
rpmmtree (an enhanced version of the BSD mtree(8) program), and rpmdigest
(an analogue of the GNU coreutils digest programs with support for URIs and
additional digest/hash/CRC algorithms). Internally, it has been upgraded to
use db 4.7.25 and Lua 5.1.3. LZMA uses liblzma rather than external
helpers. noarch sub-packages and identically named sub-packages with
different versions are supported. Additional query format extensions to
transform package metadata were added. Indentation issues dumping package

Desktop Environment
Software Development :: Internationalization
Terminals

About: rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode and to use locale-correct input and
output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at the same time, including
Xft fonts, real transparency, and an optional embedded Perl interpreter
that allows you to extend your terminal easily.

Changes: This release fixes a bug causing problems with many windows
opened from urxvtd on non-Linux kernels, fixes a bug in handling multi-byte
characters on some non-GNU/Linux systems, works around Fedora removing
isastream, and works around buggy window managers a bit better in the
tabbed extension. A lot of minor bugs have been fixed as well. On the
feature side, tabs are now movable, there is a new --chdir option, a more
rational clear-till-end-of-line command sequence, and some more minor
improvements, especially with the tabbed extension.

  by Skeetmon (http://freshmeat.net/users/skeetmon/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 09:09

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: SlideViewer is an automatic picture viewer. Just point SlideViewer
at directories containing images, and it displays the images as a
slide-show. Convenient controls enable changing the speed, pausing, going
back, and sequencing manually. It searches selected directory branches for
images, such as when photographs are stored as albums. Images are maximized
to fit within the window without distorting the aspect ratio.

Changes: New options were added to SlideViewer for repeating slide
sequences a number of times or indefinitely, as well as to display images
by random-shuffle. A new help feature lists the available options by typing
-h on the command-line.

[064] - TnFOX 0.88
  by Niall Douglas (http://freshmeat.net/users/ned14/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 08:14

Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: TnFOX is a modern secure, robust, multithreaded, exception aware,
internationalizable, portable GUI toolkit library designed for
mission-critical work in C++ and Python, forked from the FOX library. It
replicates the Qt API in many places, comes with a full set of Python
bindings, and has been designed primarily for Tn, the port of Tornado to
FOX.

Changes: FOX 1.6.33 and SQLite 3.5.9 were merged. A few new features were
added from C++0x, the upcoming new C++ standard, for compilers which
support them. A SIMD optimized Maths::Vector generic metaprogrammed class
was added, and is capable of representing any arbitrary vector and using
SIMD optimization for those combinations supported by hardware.
Maths::FRandomness was replaced with a SIMD version written using the new
Maths::Vector code. FXFSMonitor was rewritten to use inotify on Linux
instead of FAM. An automated tool was added for translating TnFOX
translation files via Google Translation.

[065] - Urpkg 1.1
  by S. Vasey (http://freshmeat.net/users/svasey/)
  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 08:36

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Urpkg is software to install programs in a safe and undoable way.
It is able to see what files any given installation command creates, and
list and remove them. You are able to restrict the installation command so
that it only writes where you allow it to, and does not overwrite files
from other packages. Urpkg is especially useful if you want to install
programs from source, or create binary packages in an automated way. Under
the hood, urpkg creates a user for each package it has to install, which
prevents the installation command from run with root privileges. It can be
seen as a "command tracer" that remembers what files a command created and
prevents it from doing forbidden things. It is written in C but relies on
some external commands, like GNU Find.

Changes: A bug that would prevent urpkg from building correctly when using
the tarball was corrected.

  Sun, Jun 15th 2008 20:38

Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and
VCDs. It also decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from
local disk drives, and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It
interprets many of the most common multimedia formats available--and some
of the most uncommon formats, too. All those features come in a reusable
library (xine-lib) which can easily be embedded in your applications.

Changes: A buffer overflow in the NSF demuxer, possibly allowing remote
attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or execute arbitrary code,
was fixed. This vulnerability was reported as CVE-2008-1878. More usage of
calloc() was deployed to provide extra safety against possible integer
overflows as found in CVE-2008-1482. The JACK output plugin was improved.
The display of some MJPEG streams (YUVJ420P) was fixed.
