  Sun, Sep 7th 2008 00:04

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GNU ccScript offers a class extensible threaded embedded scripting
engine for use with the Common C++ GNU package. This engine is also used in
Bayonne (the GNU telephony server), and in TOSI (FreeBSD and GNU/Linux PBX
integration servers). This engine differs from traditional scripting
systems in that it is used to script near real-time state-event systems
through deterministic callback step execution rather than the linear and
non-deterministic fashion of embedded script libraries such as tcl, and
libguile.

Changes: The core engine was completely rewritten. Many enhancements were
made. The script engine is now lock-free and heap usage has been greatly
reduced to maximize performance. Extensive compile-time support has been
added to validate scripts.

[014] - HAproxy 1.3.15.3 (Development)
  by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
  Sun, Sep 7th 2008 19:17

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking

About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP and HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, content-based switching,
advanced traffic regulation with surge protection, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging
to help trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few
other features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 20,000 hits per
second and surpasses GigaEthernet on modern hardware, even with tens of
thousands of simultaneous connections.

Changes: Several timeouts were not correctly updated on some rare
occasions. A possible segfault when using "url_param check_post" has been
fixed. regparm is disabled on gcc versions < 3. "use_backend" would not
correctly consider "unless". This last change should probably be the real
reason to upgrade, as check_post is rarely used.

[016] - JCR 0.6.5rc1
  by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
  Sun, Sep 7th 2008 16:47

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: JCR is a Web application for performing and managing formal code
reviews. Although it has some special logic for reviewing Java projects, it
can be used for reviews of any type of source code. JCR manages all stages
of the review process (initial project setup, individual review, joint
review meeting, post-review tidy-up), but it's mainly there to show diff
views of files that have changed and to allow comments to be made on any
line of any file marked for review.

Changes: The main enhancements are the addition of syntax highlighting for
most types of files, and other changes to the file view and review pages to
make them more usable. There is a way to set the review priority on many
files at a time, which should speed up readying new projects for review.
There is an option to provide your own review decision types (the actions
in the drop-down on the comment dialogs) as an alternative to using the
built-in JCR list. There are a few bugfixes.

[018] - LaserCalc 0.1beta
  by Udo Eisenbarth (http://freshmeat.net/users/sixties_lover/)
  Sun, Sep 7th 2008 16:55

Scientific/Engineering :: Physics

About: LaserCalc is a tool to calculate optical paths and resonators based
on Gaussian beam matrix optics. Optical elements such as lenses or
distances can be set up to an optical path. An input beam parameter (z & w
value) as well as the wavelength can be set. The programm calculates the
propagation of the beam along the path. For an optical resonator, the TEM00
Eigenmode of a given wavelength is automatically calculated. Furthermore, a
stability parameter is derived.

Changes: A bug leading to a segfault if a new Optic Path was called has
been fixed. A progress bar for matcher has been added. A bug with plotting
the last point in a path has been fixed. Display of element names in the
path plot has been added. Display of calculated distances by the matcher in
the path plot has been added. A German translation has been added. The
application now looks for the correct path of the glade files. There are
fixes in the build system.

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Redet is a tool for developing and executing regular expressions
using any of more than 50 search programs, editors, and programming
languages, intended both for developing regular expressions for use
elsewhere and as a search tool in its own right. For each program in each
locale, a palette showing the available constructs is provided. The
properties of each program are determined by runtime tests, which
guarantees that they will be correct for the program version and locale.
Additional features include persistent history, extensive help, a variety
of character entry tools, and the ability to change locale while running.
Redet is highly configurable and fully supports Unicode.

Changes: The history window now responds properly to resizing. The Unicode
character data and ranges have been updated to version 5.1 of the Unicode
standard.

Desktop Environment

About: rwdtinker is the core application for a Ruby application framework
using the RubyWebDialogs GUI. It provides a system for developing programs,
and uses a Web-based interface. It allows a developer to combine and create
applets to implement an application. It features built-in bug report
submission, remote control with UDP ports, a test framework, and
context-sensitive help.

Changes: rwd.rb has been changed to use UTF-8 for Web pages, and language
load for applets added. The remote control has been removed from help,
there is more dependable GUI loading for applets, and applets for test
driving have been added. There is more debug info in initiateapplet.
Gutenberg translations have been removed. GUI building error recovery is
correct. There is additional cleanup for live applet adding and removal;
after applet removal, the focus returns to the proper tab and error
messages are reduced unless $DEBUG=true.

[033] - SIPFwd 0.6
  by Christof Meerwald (http://freshmeat.net/users/cmeerw/)
  Sun, Sep 7th 2008 17:07

Communications :: Internet Phone
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: The SIP forwarding daemon (implemented as a stateless SIP proxy)
allows you to seamlessly forward SIP requests to other SIP servers. Its
main purpose is to enable users to use their own domain name in SIP URIs
without the hassle of having to run a full-blown SIP server (by forwarding
SIP requests to third-party SIP servers). Configuration information is
stored in an SQLite database, and low resource consumption is a main
priority for the project.

Changes: Support for DNS SRV records has been added (using the UDNS
resolver library). A bug where the forwarding SIP URL could have been
corrupted has been fixed.

[036] - STX B+ Tree 0.8.3
  by Timo Bingmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/tbingmann/)
  Sun, Sep 7th 2008 23:47

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The STX B+ Tree package is a set of C++ template classes
implementing a B+ tree key/data container in main memory. The classes are
designed as drop-in replacements of the STL containers set, map, multiset,
and multimap, and follow their interfaces very closely. By packing multiple
value pairs into each node of the tree, the B+ tree reduces heap
fragmentation and utilizes cache-line effects better than the standard
red-black binary tree. The tree algorithms are based on the implementation
in Cormen, Leiserson, and Rivest's Introduction into Algorithms, Jan
Jannink's paper, and other algorithm resources. The classes contain
extensive assertion and verification mechanisms to ensure the
implementation's correctness by testing the tree invariants.

Changes: All issues with root node pointer == NULL have been fixed. A
crash when attempting to copy-construct an empty btree or when trying to
remove a nonexistent item from an empty btree has been fixed. A crash when
running verify() on an empty btree object has been fixed. Now the root node
is freed when the last item is removed.
