[001] - Beesoft Commander 4.1.0
by Piotr Pszczolkowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/PiotrPsz/)
Sat, Sep 20th 2008 06:21
About: Beesoft Commander is a file manager (like Norton Commander) for
Linux. It is based on Qt-GUI.
Changes: This release has a dialog to select any directory from a tree of
directories. The contents of this directory are displayed in the current
panel. Users can create and check the MD5 control sum for a selected file.
It is possible to compare the contents of two selected directories. A
special dialog has been implemented where a user can synchronize two
directories. Users can change the date/time stamp of last modification for
selected file(s). There are other changes.

[002] - G4L 0.27.devel (Development Kit)
by msetzerii (http://freshmeat.net/users/msetzerii/)
Sat, Sep 20th 2008 05:38
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
System
System :: Archiving
About: G4L is a hard disk and partition imaging and cloning tool. The
created images are optionally compressed, and they can be stored on a local
hard drive or transferred to an anonymous FTP server. A drive can be cloned
using the "Click'n'Clone" function. G4L supports file splitting if the
local filesystem does not support writing files >2GB. The included kernel
supports ATA, serial-ATA, and SCSI drives. Common network cards are
supported. It is packaged as a bootable CD image with an ncurses GUI for
easy use.
Changes: The latest non-busybox programs from Fedora 8. A few unnecessary
libraries have been found. ifcheck2.sh uses a dialog instead of echo for
messages, and has a delay to provide process time on slower machines. Work
has been done on adding an aespipe encryption option for encrypting FTP
images with a GPG file and passphrase. There is an option to use sshfs to
mount a remote directory and save an image via an SSH connection.
busybox-1.11.2 is included. getkey.sh, a script to assist in getting the
key and passphrase from USB, has been added. syslinux 3.72pre6 is included.

[006] - gumnut 0.2.2
by fooscope (http://freshmeat.net/users/fooscope/)
Sat, Sep 20th 2008 05:05
Communications
About: gumnut is a program to aid a group of people to perform cooperative
decentralized decision making. The text or GUI client can create, moderate,
and display proposals over a decentralized communication network (currently
gnutella). Proposals are text files with a simple naming convention that
uses the filename to describe field attributes (such as topic and
geographical location). Popular proposals are found by searching on one or
more of these fields and then calculating the support for each proposal
based on the number of occurrences on the network.
Changes: This release closes a security bug so that now only localhost is
able to access the HTTP GUI.

[008] - PackManUtil 0.9
by weibullguy (http://freshmeat.net/users/weibullguy/)
Sat, Sep 20th 2008 05:06
About: PackManUtil is a command line application for simplifying the build
and management process for source packages. It was originally written for
use with an x86_64, multi-lib Cross Linux from Scratch (CLFS) system. Since
then, it has been extended to be used on ix86 CLFS systems. PackManUtil
consists of several system-wide scripts to handle the brunt of the work. A
separate build script is created for each package. PackManUtil comes with a
system-wide configuration file, but variables can be overridden on a
package-specific basis in the build script. PackManUtil has also been
tested on Slamd64-12.1 and Slackware-12.1; however, these distributions are
not officially supported.
Changes: This release adds support for libnotify messages. It has
additional build scripts. It has been tested on a CLFS-1.1.0 multilib
x86_64 system.

[011] - The Cell Messaging Layer 2.3
by Scott Pakin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pakin/)
Sat, Sep 20th 2008 05:04
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: The Cell Messaging Layer is a communication library for clusters of
Cell Broadband Engine processors. It implements a subset of the popular MPI
message-passing API on the Cell's SPE processors, with one MPI rank per SPE
across any number of Cells and the ability for any SPE to communicate
directly with any other SPE, even across a network. The Cell Messaging
Layer thereby makes programming clusters of Cell processors similar to
programming clusters of conventional CPUs.
Changes: The remote procedure call (RPC) mechanism now tells the callee
who the caller is, more precisely defines the semantics of what can and
can't be done with the input and output buffers, and fixes a race condition
that could lead to corruption of the data returned by an RPC function. The
SPE's cellmsg_rpc() function now requires two extra parameters, making it
more consistent with the PPE's cellmsg_rpc() function. The build process
should be more robust when dealing with file timestamp issues.

[012] - Tokyo Cabinet 1.3.9
by Mikio Hirabayashi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikio/)
Sat, Sep 20th 2008 05:06
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash database
and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database size is very
small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for a hash
database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the scalability
of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.
Changes: The database server now supports the Lua extension, which enables
this release to add arbitrary database operations defined by users. A bug
related to replication was fixed.
