[001] - Citadel 7.38
  by Art Cancro (http://freshmeat.net/users/ajc/)

Communications :: BBS
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Email

About: Citadel is an advanced messaging and collaboration system for
groupware and BBS applications. Users can connect to Citadel using any
telnet, WWW, or client software. Among the features supported are public
and private message bases (rooms), electronic mail, real-time chat, paging,
shared calendaring, address books, mailing lists, and more. Unlike other
collaboration servers, Citadel provides its own data stores and is
therefore extremely easy to install; you don't have to "bring your own"
email and database because they're built in. The server is multithreaded
and scalable. In addition, SMTP, IMAP, and POP3 servers are built-in for
easy connection to Internet mail. Citadel is both robust and mature; it has
been in production since 1987.

Changes: When running mailing lists, the List-ID field is parsed and
generated. Improved handling of the refcount_adjustments.dat file to
prevent a rare condition where the file can't be renamed and therefore
cannot be processed. The display of incoming instant messages through an
IMAP client has been removed, because XMPP is now supported, so it would be
redundant for most users.

[002] - clive 2.0beta1 (Development)
  by legatvs (http://freshmeat.net/users/legatvs/)
  Tue, Sep 23rd 2008 17:51

Multimedia :: Video

About: clive is a command line utility for extracting videos from Youtube
and other video sharing Web sites. It was originally written to bypass the
Adobe Flash requirement needed to view the hosted videos. It is
non-interactive, meaning it can work in the background while the user is
not logged on. This allows the user to start an extraction and disconnect
from the system, letting clive finish the work.

Changes: A complete overhaul and rewrite of 1.x.

  Tue, Sep 23rd 2008 12:10

Database
Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends

About: DataNucleus Access Platform is a standards-compliant Java
persistence product. It is fully compliant with the JDO1, JDO2, JDO2.1, and
JPA1 Java standards. It also complies with the OGC Simple Feature
Specification for persistence of geospatial Java types. It allows access to
all popular RDBMSs available today, together with db4o, LDAP, NeoDatis,
JSON, Excel documents, and XML databases.

Changes: The JDK requirement for 1.1 has been changed to JDK 1.5 or later.
Support for JPQL bulk delete has been added for db4o, NeoDatis, Excel, XML,
LDAP, and JSON datastores. RDBMS table existence checks have been improved.
RDBMS datastore log startup has been cleaned up. Support for db4o has been
raised to version 7.0 or later. Support for NucleusSQL querying for RDBMS
has been removed. Support for (cast) and JPQL "<>" generic query
compilation has been added. Several bugs have been fixed.

  Tue, Sep 23rd 2008 17:41

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Deliantra is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game.
Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and
playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl
server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and better
client support.

Changes: All command line parsing has been removed; the environment
variables should be used instead. Region specific monsters, which weren't
placed, have been fixed. A big memory leak has been fixed. The server
writes a PID file now. Many fixes and improvements in the internal pod and
text processing. RIP inscriptions on gravestones have been fixed. Login
name length has been bumped from 18 to 20 chars max. Improved gender
support and death messages. Some minor potential for data corruption bugs
and race conditions is fixed. The file loader doesn't crash on corrupt
files anymore.

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: EngLab is a cross-compile mathematical platform with a C like
syntax intended to be used both by engineers and users with little
programming knowledge. It supports programming through small script files
but also enables users to easily compile their own functions as shared
objects and use them through the program's main interface.

Changes: libenglab is now a shared object. The build system allows users
to cross compile for Windows under Unix. EngLab GUI is available for
Windows. An all-in-one package for Unix was created. Ten new toolboxes were
added, containing functions for converting metrics: Area, Density, Energy,
Length, Power, Pressure, Temperature, Velocity, Volume, and Weight.

makes it possible subset the gridded data and to extract only parts of the
files. For simple usage, Fimex also comes with the command line program
fimex.

Changes: Fimex now includes a writer for data in WMO grib format version 1

About: nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your
meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the latest USDA
Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. This database contains values for
vitamins, minerals, fats, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc.,
and includes the essential polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6.
Nutrient levels are expressed as a percentage of the Daily Value, the
familiar standard of food labeling in the United States, but also can be
fully customized. Foods can be added from recipes or food labels, and
nutrient intake can be graphed. The program is completely menu-driven and
there are no commands to learn.

About: Stunnix Advanced Web Server is a Web server for putting Web sites
onto CD-ROMs, DVDs, FlashDisks, and other readonly media to be used on any
typical system. Sites can be scripted with PHP, Python, Java, or Perl and
can be driven by MySQL or SQLite databases. All required software programs
are designed to reside on the CD-ROM to avoid the need to install software
on the user's computer. The Web serving core is based on Apache 1.3.x, and
has additional functionality to detect and use free ports and automatically
start a browser on each platform. Desktop applications can also be created
with it.

Changes: This release implements a tray icon on Mac OS X (which allows you
to stop the Web server and MySQL server if all browser windows are closed).
The mysqli PHP extension has been added on all platforms. The means to help
flash projectors has been added. Improvements have been added for tomcat
when the server is run from the HDD. Other minor improvements have been
made.

[030] - Virtualmin 3.62
  by Jamie Cameron (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcameron/)
  Tue, Sep 23rd 2008 20:21

System :: Systems Administration

About: Virtualmin is a Webmin module that simplifies the process of
setting up and managing virtual servers. It can create Apache virtual
hosts, BIND DNS domains, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, and set up
Sendmail or Postfix to accept email for a domain. It can also manage
mailboxes and mail aliases within a domain.

Changes: This update adds a new default sorting mode for virtual servers
(by domain, with sub-servers indented), a template option for SPF included
domains, the list-domains.pl API script, Procmail locking to prevent
multiple concurrent SpamAssassin processes, the use of GNU tar on FreeBSD
systems, and several small bugfixes.

[031] - WendzelNNTPd 1.3.0
  by Steffen Wendzel (http://freshmeat.net/users/cdpxe/)
  Tue, Sep 23rd 2008 20:24

Communications :: Usenet News
Internet
System :: Networking

About: The WendzelNNTPd is a tiny, easy to configure NNTP server for Unix,
Linux, and Windows. The server is IPv6-ready, only supports the most
important NNTP commands, is very secure, and uses an SQL backend. It also
comes with a Qt-based GUI.

Changes: The XHDR command can now understand the message ID as a
parameter. Because of this, the database format needed to change, which
means that all database files have to be recreated. The DATE command was
added, a few SQL string messages were fixed, and a better NNTP command
tokenizer was implemented.
