Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts
(like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized also.
Changes: This release fixes Lucene memory leaking when refreshing the
index in memory-only mode. It adds configurable max field length. It can
process an empty query by matching all documents in multi-index search
mode. It handles SQL Server special empty or all zero date time formats.

[006] - deco file extraction framework 1.5.5.2
by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
Mon, Sep 29th 2008 06:58
System :: Archiving
About: deco is a command-line program that, together with the deco-archive
package, allows you to extract dozens of popular archive file formats. It
has a consistent interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.rar 3.zip 4.flac 5.deb") and
consistent behavior (never deleting archives after extraction and
extracting relative to the current working directory, just verbosely
enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It creates an
extraction directory if there is more than one file or directory at the
archive top level, and it is able to fix strange permissions.
Changes: The code style has been improved.

Mon, Sep 29th 2008 06:38
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: HTTrack is an easy-to-use offline browser utility. It allows you to
download a Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building
recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the
server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative
link-structure. Simply open a page of the mirrored Web site in your
browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were
viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and
resume interrupted downloads. WebHTTrack is a Web-based GUI for HTTrack.
Changes: Files with missing reference in cache are no longer redownloaded.
Multiple download of error pages was fixed. A double request issued to
update a broken file was fixed. A number of parsing problems were fixed,
such as overly aggressive parsing of JavaScript "url=" expressions, a
binary detection corrupting downloaded files, and binary real media files
and related files being parsed as HTML. The --urllist option was also
fixed, along with the "pause" option, which is now faster to pause a
mirror. Other build-related issues and some code cleanup were also done.

[021] - Lbzip2 0.06a
by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
Mon, Sep 29th 2008 23:57
System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: Lbzip2 is a Pthreads-based parallel bzip2/bunzip2 filter, passable
to GNU tar with the --use-compress-program option. It isn't restricted to
regular files on input, nor output. Successful splitting for decompression
isn't guaranteed, just very likely (failure is detected). Splitting in both
modes and compression itself occur with an approximate 900k block size. On
an Athlon-64 X2 6000+, lbzip2 was 92% faster than standard bzip2 when
compressing, and 45% faster when decompressing (based on wall clock time).
Lbzip2 strives to be portable by requiring UNIX 98 APIs only, besides an
unmodified libbz2.
Changes: A class of valid bz2 files the multiple-workers decompressor
(MWD) possibly refuses has been described in the Bugs section of the
README. By concatenating empty bzip2 streams (each having a length of 14
bytes) and optionally inserting such a sequence before, after, or between
non-empty bzip2 streams, the size of the input block that unavoidably
contains an entire bzip2 block header can be increased without bound. This
invalidates the assumption the MWD is based on. However, neither bzip2 nor
lbzip2 creates such files, and bz2 file sets that do defeat the MWD when
catenated should be rare.

System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration
About: LDAP Account Manager makes it possible to manage various account

by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Mon, Sep 29th 2008 06:40
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking
About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.
Changes: Embed watchers now automatically set the fork flag on embedded
loops, when applicable. A new function, ev_now_update, has been added that
makes it possible to update the event loop time outside of ev_loop. Many
parts of the documentation have been improved.

Mon, Sep 29th 2008 11:11
Multimedia
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Kate is a codec for karaoke and text encapsulation for Ogg. Most of
the time, this would be multiplexed with audio/video to carry subtitles,
song lyrics (with or without karaoke data), etc, but it doesn't have to be.
A possible use of a lone Kate stream would be an e-book. Moreover, the
motion feature gives Kate a powerful means to describe arbitrary curves, so
hand drawing of shapes can be achieved. This was originally meant for
karaoke use, but can be used for any purpose. Motions can be attached to
various semantics, like position or color, so scrolling or fading text can
be defined.

Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware
About: libv4l is a collection of libraries that adds a thin abstraction
layer on top of video4linux2 (V4L2) devices. The purpose of this layer is
to make it easy for application writers to support a wide variety of
devices without having to write separate code for different devices in the
same class. It consists of 3 different libraries. libv4lconvert offers
functions to convert from any (known) pixel format to V4l2_PIX_FMT_BGR24 or
V4l2_PIX_FMT_YUV420. libv4l1 offers the (deprecated) v4l1 API on top of
v4l2 devices, independent of the drivers for those devices supporting v4l1
compatibility (which many v4l2 drivers do not). libv4l2 offers the v4l2 API
on top of v4l2 devices, while adding for the application transparent
libv4lconvert conversion where necessary.

About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can decode
messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart messages
can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the message body
data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle messages
larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some syntax
errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.

by deltaray (http://freshmeat.net/users/deltaray/)
Mon, Sep 29th 2008 17:23
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: phpLogCon is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event
data. It provides easy browsing and some basic analysis. Data are taken
from databases or plain syslog text files, so phpLogCon does not require
changes to an existing logging infrastructure. Depending on the log data
present, it can process syslog messages, Windows event log entries, and
some more exotic things. Its troubleshooting support enables users to
quickly find solutions to problems seen in the log data.
Changes: This release fixes several SQL issues in the logstream classes
when filtering was used. It enhances all content menus in the main site,
reducing coding as well. It adds support for URL detection within the data
of string fields; these links can be opened in new windows. It fixes a bug
when excluding more then one string filter from the same field type. It
fixes incorrect database version insertion in install.php as well as an
incorrect redirect login page during installation. It fixes the "next page"
button when a logstream disk source is used.

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: PhpPeanuts is a framework for developing database-backed
applications in PHP. It supports high and sustainable developer
productivity by default reasoning and the "once and only once" principle.
It features the extended dynamic scaffolding of complete Web-based
applications (user interface and ORM) from meta data, including CRUD,
relations, and Query By Example. Its dynamic nature and high adaptability
allow a very agile development style to remain highly productive (thus
enjoyable) in later phases of development and maintenance.
Changes: A database column mapping specification was added for use with
existing databases. AJAX support, a user authorization API on the
application and type levels, cross site scripting and request forgery
prevention, and a database abstraction with direct support for MySQL and
SQLite 2 and support for other databases through a PDO interface (PHP5
only) were added. The CRUD actions now use database transactions and they
support cascaded deletion and protection against deletion if dependents
exist. A user administration and authentication plugin is now avaliable
separately.

by Daniel Parker (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielaparker/)
Mon, Sep 29th 2008 06:42
Database
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: ServingXML is a markup language for expressing XML pipelines and an
extensible Java framework for defining the elements of the language. It
defines a vocabulary for expressing flat-XML, XML-flat, flat-flat, and
XML-XML transformations in pipelines. The accompanying console app supports
reading content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX events, and
writing it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This software is
especially suited for converting flat file or database records to XML, with
its support for namespaces, variant record types, multi-valued fields,
segments and repeating groups, hierarchical grouping of records, and
row-by-row validation with XML Schema. There is also an API for embedding
the software in a Java application.
Changes: This release introduces new elements for validating the fields
and subrecords of records with regular expressions, and for taking
projections of specified fields of records. New examples illustrate how to
transform financial data for FRAs and swaps into FpML documents.

Mon, Sep 29th 2008 09:31
System :: Archiving
About: Skwish is a fast, simple, lightweight Java library for storing
blobs on the file system. It allows multiple concurrent readers and
writers, provides all-or-nothing write semantics, and is designed to
survive abnormal, unclean shutdown. Skwish is a structured implementation
of storing all blobs in a single file to save on file system I/O. Skwish is
premised on the proposition that blob storage ought to be orthogonal to the
task of indexing. It is meant to be a clean and simple store on which some
other index can be built.
Changes: The focus of this release has been to get TxnSegment, the
interface that provides all-or-nothing commit semantics, working in a fully
concurrent environment. Much of the com.faunos.skwish.sys.mgr package was
refactored do this. More unit tests were added. Logging was added for

container) and an Oracle RDBMS. It requires coding primarily in PL/SQL,
JavaScript, and XSLT, but also in HTML, CSS, and potentially Java. It
enables the construction of applications using the model/view/controller
(MVC) design pattern. With a controller that executes interpreted XML for
creating the model and view, developers can construct new functionality.
The model is retrieved either via includes or by the execution of Oracle's
stored procedures, and then passed to an XML stylesheet transform to
construct and return the view. Different combinations and options provide
rich dynamic content.
Changes: This release fixes a bug where model parameters could not contain
a single quote. It improves performance by using StringBuilder instead of
StringBuffer. It improves performance by testing for verbose debugging
outside of the debug class rather than inside the debug class method. It
utilizes Java 1.5 URLConnection.setReadTimeout in the href class, thus
eliminating the need for a sub-class thread to perform the timeout
function.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
About: WikklyText is a Python-based wiki and modular library for creating
custom wikitext rendering applications. Its wikitext engine is compatible
with the TiddlyWiki markup language. It functions equally well as a
wiki-on-a-stick or as a multiuser wiki behind Apache. It includes a Drupal
plugin as well.
Changes: Reorganization of the caching layer solves a number of rendering
and portability issues. Cache is now cleaned periodically to avoid
unbounded growth. Cleanups in link parsing were done for TiddlyWiki
compatibility. Some rendering speedups were made, especially in text store.
Rendered output is now XHTML 1.0 compliant (Strict).

[063] - xorriso 0.2.6.pl01
by scdbackup (http://freshmeat.net/users/scdbackup/)
Mon, Sep 29th 2008 14:03
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Filesystems
About: xorriso creates, loads, manipulates, and writes ISO 9660 filesystem
images with Rock Ridge extensions. It can load the management information
of existing ISO images, and it writes the session results to optical media
or to filesystem objects. This is the standalone version that incorporates
the libraries of libburnia-project.org and thus depends only on Linux 2.4
(or later), libc, and libpthread. No separate mkisofs and no CD/DVD burn
program are needed.
Changes: A potential buffer overflow has been fixed. The bug existed in
libburn SVN since August 30, 2008. No libburnia release is affected, but
only the recent standalone release of xorriso.
