System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: The audit package contains the user-space utilities for creating
audit rules, as well as for storing and searching the audit records
generate by the audit subsystem in the Linux 2.6 kernel. It also has a
basic Intrusion Detection plugin based on audit events capable of IDMEF
alerting using prelude.
Changes: TTY audit updates. An update of capabilities interpretation.
Non-root search has been improved to not cause access problems. A new exit
code search option has been added to ausearch. There are performance
improvements for ausearch. Config file parsing when GSSAPI support is
disabled has been fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration
About: Augeas is a configuration API and editing tool. It parses common
configuration files like /etc/hosts or /etc/grub.conf in their native
formats and transforms them into a tree. Configuration changes are made by
manipulating this tree and saving it back into native configuration files.
Changes: Various fixes for file saving (preserving the file
attributes/SELinux label, reporting which files were changed, and making
save idempotent). Lens documentation is generated with NaturalDocs. There
are various lens fixes and enhancements.

[003] - Back In Time 0.7
by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 13:38
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.
Changes: A cron segfault was fixed. A crash which occurred when the
program was launched for the very first time was fixed. Multi-lingual
support was added. A French translation was added.

[004] - cb2Bib 1.0.4
by constans (http://freshmeat.net/users/constans/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 05:53
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: The cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting bibliographic
references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. It
facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted and non
standard sources. Output references are written in BibTeX. Article files
can be easily linked and renamed by dragging them onto the cb2Bib window.
The cb2Bib permits editing and browsing of BibTeX files, searching of
references and the contents of linked files, and the addition of citations
into document editors.
Changes: This release improves pages, volume and number heuristic
recognition, and adds 'any word/all words' type searches. It fixes also a
couple of issues that appeared when linking to Qt 4.4.0 or later:
incorrectly enabled/disabled buttons in the search dialog, and 'about
panel' not displaying dynamic bookmarks.

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW,
TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote
SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers.
Changes: Config.sub now supports NetBSD on AMD64. The email addresses in
many files have been updated. The libfile license has been changed from
4-clause BSD to 2-clause BSD with permission from all authors. The MD5
implementation in cdda2wav has been changed to a public domain variant to
avoid the RSA advertizing clause. Some small code cleanups were done in

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: Config-Model provides a framework for validating the content of any
configuration file or data. With a configuration model (expressed in a data
structure), Config-Model provides a tool to validate configuration. A
graphical (Perl/Tk) or a curses interface is provided to edit configuration
data. Config-Model includes a model example for fstab and a small fstab
demo.
Changes: The optional "ordered" parameter was added to the checklist.
Checklist order is now taken into account in configuration data. This
feature is required by the SSH model for the Ciphers list (see
Config::Model::OpenSsh).

[008] - Config::Model::Itself 1.207
by Dominique Dumont (http://freshmeat.net/users/ddumont/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 17:28
Software Development
System :: Systems Administration
About: Config::Model::Itself provides a configuration model for
Config::Model. In other words, the structure of a model specification is
described in Config::Model::Itself so you can use the same user interface
to edit configuration data (for instance Xorg configuration data from
xorg.conf) and Xorg model (if you need to add new parameters in Xorg
model). You can also create your own configuration model to get a
configuration tool for your own application.
Changes: This release adds an ordered parameter to the checklist. An
ordered checklist feature is required by the SSH model for the Ciphers list
(see Config::Model::OpenSsh).

[009] - Config::Model::TkUI 1.203
by Dominique Dumont (http://freshmeat.net/users/ddumont/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 17:27
System :: Systems Administration
About: Config::Model::TkUI provides a graphical interface to
Config::Model. With this project, Config::Model, and a configuration model
(like Config::Model::Xorg), a user gets a tool to edit configuration files.
This configuration editing tool provides on-line help and validation of
configuration data.
Changes: This release adds a Notebook tab to provide 2 ways to edit an
ordered checklist: changing the content (check or uncheck items), or
changing the order of the items. This feature is necessary to correctly
edit the Ciphers list of ssh_config model (see Config::Model::OpenSsh). The
interface to edit the list of configuration parameters has been improved. A
nice logo has been added.

[014] - deco file extraction framework 1.5.6
by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 15:30
System :: Archiving
About: deco is a command-line program that, together with the deco-archive
package, allows you to extract dozens of popular archive file formats. It
has a consistent interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.rar 3.zip 4.flac 5.deb") and
consistent behavior (never deleting archives after extraction and
extracting relative to the current working directory, just verbosely
enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It creates an
extraction directory if there is more than one file or directory at the
archive top level, and it is able to fix strange permissions.
Changes: If an archive named, for example, foo.zip contains a file also
named foo.zip, previous versions of deco would fail in some circumstances.

[016] - FastDup 0.3
by John Brooks (http://freshmeat.net/users/aspecial/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 05:50
Utilities
About: FastDup is a tool to find identical files within directory trees,
with a focus on the ability to scan very large trees and files in
reasonable amounts of time. The use of clever techniques and optimizations
to avoid comparisons allows fastdup to significantly outperform many
existing solutions, and has a benefit of being entirely I/O bound
(insignificant CPU usage). It is released under a modified BSD license,
allowing all use, redistribution, and modification for non-commercial
purposes.
Changes: This release adds a progress display while comparing files and an
option to filter the files included in scanning by file size. Several minor
bugs have been resolved, including a compilation error on GCC 4.3 and
several minor memory leaks. The license has been changed to the GPLv3.

by Jonathan Revusky (http://freshmeat.net/users/revusky/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 17:29
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: FreeCC (formerly KawaDD) is parser/lexer generator written in Java.
It is a development fork of the well known JavaCC parser generator
originally developed at Sun Microsystems. It has extra features such as
"code injection" and more flexible tree-building strategies. Also, it is
far easier to customize the code the tool generates, because it uses
FreeMarker templates that can be tailored for one's needs.
Changes: This release introduces a new INCLUDE_GRAMMAR statement that
allows you to organize your grammar file into multiple physical files. The
NODE_PACKAGE option is working now (it was not working in 0.9). There has
been a lot of code cleanup and a multitude of minor bugfixes.

Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 20:02
About: Nagzilla was designed to be a Jabber relay "bot", in that it sits
quietly in a room until it gets a message to relay to either a chat room or
a person. The early work was based on several simple examples out on the
Internet, but would just keep logging into a room every time the bot had
something to say. It was made a daemon, which allows it to get Nagzilla
alerts from various systems and event creators. Nagzillac (the client

should work with Google Talk (as it's Jabber-based), but that is untested.

class to unify configuration file and command line parameter handling. This
will ease compilation on different platforms, especially on Windows.
Several bugs in different backends were fixed, and some patches were added
to increase compatibility.

[032] - phpLogCon 2.5.15 (Beta)
by deltaray (http://freshmeat.net/users/deltaray/)
Wed, Oct 22nd 2008 17:26
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: phpLogCon is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event
data. It provides easy browsing, searching, basic analysis, and some
graphics. Data is taken from databases or plain syslog text files, so
phpLogCon does not require changes to an existing logging infrastructure.

event log entries, and some more exotic things. Its troubleshooting support
enables users to quickly find solutions to problems seen in the log data.
Changes: The check for magic_quotes_gpc has been corrected, which is
important when saving. Configuration values are saved into the UserDB. This
also fixes a problem of duplicating backslahes when using \ or ' in string
fields. A minor bug in handling and saving the ViewEntriesPerPage option
has been fixed. An option to inject custom HTML code into the header and
footer has been added. Help links have been added to the message parser
admin panel. The default and dark themes have been cleaned up and enhanced.
The documentation has been improved.
