Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: AjaXplorer is an easy-to-install file explorer for remotely
managing files on a Web server. Its rich GUI makes it accessible to any
end-user. Its main features are common file actions (uploading,
downloading, moving, renaming, etc.), online file editing, image preview, a
bookmarks system, and more. It requires PHP to run and FTP access only for
installation.

Changes: This release adds a "Remember me" option at login, a new flash
uploader, templates to easily add your custom HTML at the top and bottom of
the page, a new access driver to allow AjaXplorer to browse, edit, and
search a MySQL database, and various bugfixes.

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: Support for simple obj files and patch-specific surfacepens and
meshpens was added. Surface constructors for triangles were added.
Three-dimensional margins were implemented. Flat 3D arrowhead types
HookHead2 and TeXHead2 were implemented. By default, 3D arrowheads are now
always drawn with currentlight. Functions that construct a pen array from a
given function and palette were added, as illustrated in the example
elevation.asy. A bug in the cyclic path write functions was fixed. A
missing put argument in grid3 and a missing transform for projected 3D mesh
lines were fixed.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random, Least
Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to set
up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports SNMP,
integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It implements a very fast
in-memory IP-to-location database, allowing powerful location-based server
load-balancing.

Changes: The initial value of the "bngfilter" parameter is now set to 1
(as expected). This fix has also been applied to the 1.x branch, resulting
in release 1.936. The Ubuntu JeOS VMware virtual appliance has been updated
accordingly.

[011] - extract_url.pl 1.4.1
  by memoryhole (http://freshmeat.net/users/memoryhole/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 21:00

Communications :: Email

About: extract_url.pl is a Perl script that extracts URLs from either
correctly-encoded MIME email messages or from plain text. It can be used
either as a pre-parser for a URL selector (such as urlview), or as a
standalone URL selector. It is very configurable, can handle URLs that have
been broken over several lines in format=flowed delsp=yes email messages,
and eliminates duplicate URLs. It was designed primarily for use with Mutt,
but can be used by for any similar purpose. The idea is that if you want to
access a URL in an email, you pipe the email to a URL extractor (like this
one), which then lets you select a URL to view in some third program (such
as Firefox).

Changes: This release has better contextual text handling (it uses word
boundaries instead of explicit string lengths), and pulls URLs out of HTML
text in addition to HTML tags. This may be somewhat sensitive to formatting
issues (unexpected line breaks, etc).

About: The purpose of the glideinWMS is to provide a simple way to access
the Grid resources. To achieve this without reinventing the wheel,
glideinWMS is a Glidein-based WMS (Workload Management System) that works
on top of Condor. Once setup, final users can submit regular Condor jobs to
the local queue and the glidein factory will provide the computing
resources behind the scenes. From the final user point of view, the Condor
pool just magically grows and shrinks as needed.

Changes: This version contains several management and scalability
improvements and some monitoring tweaks. It also introduces the ability to
pass the proxy from the VO frontend to the factory.

be created for generating default schedules. Schedules can be set as
viewable or not. Employees may be assigned to different departments for
different days. PDF documents may be generated from both the schedules and
daily assignments. Email notifications can be sent when schedules or
assignments are updated or added.

Changes: This release revamps configuration file utilization due to issues
with old config class. It adds a feature to customize the user description
such as "employee," "volunteer," etc. It adds a feature to have public
sections of applications. It adds a feature to force a schedule to be
emailed as a PDF to a selected group. It adds a feature for a user with
add/edit user permissions to be able to reset a user's password.

[028] - Retchmail 1.1.1
  by William Lachance (http://freshmeat.net/users/wlach/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 21:14

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
Utilities

About: Retchmail is almost completely unlike fetchmail: it lacks features,
isn't particularly robust (although it won't delete a message until
sendmail says it was delivered okay), has nearly no documentation, and is
actually fast. It also handles multiple accounts simultaneously.

Changes: Updates for building with WvStreams 4.5.

  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 17:43

System :: Logging

About: Rxlogd is a receive-only syslog server (collector) that can coexist
with sysklogd. It features simplicity, ease of use, and a built-in DNS
cache for high performance. The intended audience is users of enterprise
systems stuck with sysklogd, or administrators who don't need more complex
syslog server solutions.

Changes: Support for clients that don't send newlines with their syslog
(e.g. rsyslogd).

[030] - Subversion 1.5.4 (Stable)
  by Hyrum Wright (http://freshmeat.net/users/hwright/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 15:30

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Subversion is a version control system. Originally designed to be a
compelling replacement for CVS in the open source community, it has far
exceeded that goal and seen widespread adoption in both open source and
corporate environments. The Subversion project produces Subversion's core
libraries (written in C), a fully functional command line client (svn),
repository administration programs, API bindings for various languages
(Perl, Python, Java, Ruby, etc.), and various additional tools and scripts.

Changes: This release improves "svn merge" and fixes a regression found in
1.5.3.

[031] - Task Coach 0.71.2
  by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 21:13

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do consist
of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with composite tasks.

Changes: The most important bugs fixed include a misbehaving reminder
dialog, URLs that could not be added as attachments, and a bug in the
effort editor that sometimes made it impossible to edit effort records.

[032] - Topal 64
  by Phil Brooke (http://freshmeat.net/users/philb328/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 10:52

Communications :: Email

About: Topal is yet another program that links GnuPG and Pine/Alpine. It
offers facilities to encrypt, decrypt, sign, and verify messages. Multiple
PGP blocks included in the text of a message are processed. Decryption and
verification output can be cached to reduce the number of times the
passphrase is entered. RFC2015/3156 multipart messages can be sent and
received with help from some scripts, procmail, and a patch to Pine/Alpine.
It includes basic support for verifying S/MIME multipart/signed messages.
There is a remote sending and decryption mode for reading email on a
distant computer via SSH with secret keys on the local computer. There is a
high level of configurability.

Changes: A Topal patch for Alpine 2.00 was added. (Alpine's S/MIME needs
to be turned off for Topal's S/MIME verification to work.) Temporary files
are now properly deleted. A bug when guessing the type of an attachment was
fixed. A patch was added to Topal sources for Cygwin (the recent interrupt
code doesn't build).

Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Libraries

About: uim is a multilingual input method framework. It aims to provide a
flexible development platform and useful user environment for input
methods. It works in many environments, including general desktop systems
such as GNOME or KDE, and even in a console. It also supports Linux Zaurus
and Mac OS X.

Changes: This release adds a minor enhancement to the performance of
candidate window behavior with GTK+/Qt/XIM bridges, and a few minor fixes
and improvements against 1.5.3.

Internet
Software Development :: Libraries

About: WvStreams is a library set composed of a number of parts. Among
them are WvIPStreams (WvTCPStream and WvUDPStream), WvStrings (yet another
C++ String class), WvCrypto Streams (including an easy way to add SSL
support to applications), UniConf (a universal configuration system), WvLog
(nice, simple handling of log files), and a whole host of other goodness.
These are the base classes used to build programs such as the ever popular
WvDial, TunnelVision, FastForward, KWvDial, and retchmail.

Changes: New D-Bus bindings. An improved callback API based on boost's
function library. Support for parsing OCSP requests and responses. A long
list of bugfixes.

[035] - WvTftp 1.0.1
  by William Lachance (http://freshmeat.net/users/wlach/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 21:13

Internet

About: WvTftp is an advanced TFTP server. It employs "negative latency",
which sends data ahead of time to speed up the transaction. Filenames can
be aliased to point to other files, along with a few other techniques to
extend the flexibility of the TFTP protocol. WvTftp also uses only the
standard TFTP port and so is firewall friendly.

Changes: Updates for building with WvStreams 4.5.

[036] - x11vnc 0.9.5
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
  Fri, Oct 24th 2008 20:58

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring

About: x11vnc is a program that allows one to remotely view and interact
with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical monitor,
keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. It is similar to WinVNC and is
designed to be compatible with all Unix variants and depend on a very
small set of standard libraries. It supports a growing number of command
line options, such as -nofb for dual- headed mode with Win2VNC. It is part
of the  LibVNCServer project.

Changes: Symmetric key encryption using the RC4, AES, Blowfish, and 3DES
ciphers is supported via the '-enc cipher:keyfile' option. Server-side
scaling can now have different scale factors along the horizontal and
vertical axes. The -chatwindow option allows a chat window to appear on the
X console during UltraVNC chats. The non-SSL Java viewer applet has been
replaced with an improved implementation.

About: Yii is a high-performance programming framework for developing Web
applications in PHP 5. It encourages reusability in Web programming and can
significantly accelerate the development process. Yii is easy to learn and
use. You only need to know PHP and object-oriented programming. You are not
forced to learn a new configuration or templating language. Yii is fast;
its overhead to applications written on top of it is negligible.

Changes: This release adds CFlexWidget, CVarDumper, CDateParser,
CTypeValidator. It adds support to allow creating customized yiic shell
commands. It adds support for hierarchical role-based authorization. It
adds support for using customized template syntax. A Phone Book demo has
been added.
