[001] - 0MQ 0.5
  by sustrik (http://freshmeat.net/users/sustrik/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 14:47

About: 0MQ is a lightweight messaging kernel. It achieves 30 microsecond
end-to-end latencies and over 3 million messages per second. It can be used
from C, C++, Python, .NET, and Java. It runs on AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, Linux,
MacOS X, OpenBSD, QNX Neutrino, Solaris, and Windows.

Changes: An auto-reconnect feature improves overall robustness of the
system and makes it tolerate even network outages and application failures.
Flow control and queue limits allow you to explicitly control the system in
congestion conditions. A .NET extension provides access to the universe of
C# and Visual Basic business applications, while multi-protocol support
allows you to leverage advantages of different networking protocols:
ubiquitous TCP, PGM reliable multicast, AMQP business messaging protocol,
and SCTP telephony.

[002] - Anyterm 1.1.29 (Development)
  by Phil Endecott (http://freshmeat.net/users/endecotp/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 14:57

Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and a server daemon. The daemon typically runs behind an HTTP proxy; it
forks a shell and communicates with the script using XMLHTTP on port 80 or
securely using SSL. This provides you with shell access to your machine
from almost any Web browser, even when firewalls are in the way. The
my.anyterm.org service provides access without the need to install anything
on your servers.

Changes: This release fixes execution on Linux 2.4 systems (provided that
you also compile on a 2.4 system) and fixes compilation with compilers that
don't know about their processor's atomic operations.

[020] - EntityFS 1.1
  by Karl Gustafsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/kargu/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 09:07

Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: EntityFS is an object-oriented file system API for Java. It has a
rich set of powerful file and directory manipulation tools that makes it
much easier to work with file system entities from Java. The file and
directory interfaces are implementation-independent, and there is support
for building file systems on disk, in memory, or in Zip or Jar files. File
systems can also be configured to support capabilities such as file data
compression or metadata.

Changes: This version comes with a number of new utility methods and
classes. The new OverwriteStrategy gives a more tunable way of overwriting
existing entities in different operations. The filter implementation has
been made more generic, and the EntityFilter interface has been removed in
favor of Filter<EntityView>. Location aware recursive iterators keep track
of each returned object's location relative to a base directory.

  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 14:58

System :: Benchmark
System :: Filesystems

About: fio is an I/O tool meant to be used both for benchmark and
stress/hardware verification. It has support for 13 different types of I/O
engines (sync, mmap, libaio, posixaio, SG v3, splice, null, network,
syslet, guasi, solarisaio, and more), I/O priorities (for newer Linux
kernels), rate I/O, forked or threaded jobs, and much more. It can work on
block devices as well as files. fio accepts job descriptions in a
simple-to-understand text format. Several example job files are included.
fio displays all sorts of I/O performance information. It supports Linux,
FreeBSD, and OpenSolaris.

Changes: This release adds support for CPU binding in Solaris, UDP support
to the network IO engine, gettimeofday() optimizations, and disabling
options. It fixes a bug related to crashing the parser, various bugs in the
shared memory allocator and /tmp file leaks, and CPU mask options on large
systems.

  by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 09:00

About: Fusil is a fuzzing program. Currently, it's specific to Linux
command line programs, but the code is designed to be used with any project
type (remote process, fake HTTP server, fuzz network socket, etc.). It is
based on a multi-agent system instead of a monolithic architecture.

Changes: A user guide and a document index were written. The HOME
environment variable is copied for GDB in the replay script. More file
formats (bmp, gif, ico, png, svg) are supported in fusil-firefox.
fusil-python writes errors to stderr to avoid Unicode errors (especially
with Python3). FileWatch renames the session to "long_output" if the
program wrote more than max_nbline lines. posix.fork() is blacklisted in
fusil-python to avoid false positives.

[025] - Gearmand 0.3
  by Brian Aker (http://freshmeat.net/users/briantangentorg/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 10:48

About: Gearmand is the job server component of Gearman. Gearman provides a
generic framework to farm out work to other machines, dispatching function
calls to machines that are better suited to do work, to do work in
parallel, to balance the load of processing, or to call functions between
languages.

Changes: An I/O wait bug in packet parsing was fixed. A different autoconf
library detection method is now used. A detach option was added to
gearmand, so it can now run in the background. Much of the client code was
reworked for better concurrency and efficiency. Benchmark utilities were
added. Man pages were added. The port was changed to the new IANA assigned
port, 4730.

flashhigh/flashnormal/flashlow for consistency, fixes parsing of the
H264(flashhigh) Hulu stream URL which was accidentally skipped, changes the
default vmode list for Hulu to be flashnormal,flashlow because flashhigh
requires encrypted rtmp support, and sorts the Hulu vmodes based on
reported bitrate in the metadata.

About: LuSql is a command line Java application for the construction of a
Lucene index from an arbitrary SQL query of a JDBC-accessible SQL database.
It allows a user to control a number of parameters, including the SQL query
to use, individual indexing/storage/term-vector nature of fields, analyzer,
stop word list, and other tuning parameters. In its default mode, it uses
threading to take advantage of multiple cores. LuSql can handle complex
queries, allows for additional per record sub-queries, and has a plug-in
architecture for arbitrary Lucene document manipulation.

Changes: This release adds a new command line parameter (-E) to allow the
user to set JDBC transaction isolation. Previously, the default (and
non-user-settable) JDBC transaction isolation of
TRANSACTION_READ_UNCOMMITTED worked for MySQL but not for the Oracle 9i

System :: Networking :: LDAP

About: Silktree synchronizes /etc/passwd and /etc/group files from the
head node to a list of child nodes via SSH. At the lowest level, six Debian
system utilities are employed: {add,del}{user,group}, {user,group}mod. The
transaction is done as a non-root user on both the head node and the child
nodes. Several read-only sudo-capable mini-scripts on the child nodes
ensure limitations and commit the changes to /etc. The end-to-end check
ensures a reliable update.

Education
Education :: Testing
Software Development

About: TAU (Tuning and Analysis Utilities) is a set of tools for analyzing
the performance of C, C++, Fortran and Java programs. It collects much more
information than is available through prof or gprof, the standard Unix
utilities, including per-process, per-thread, and per-host information,
inclusive and exclusive function times, profiling groups that allow you to
organize data collection, access to hardware counters on some systems,
per-class and per-instance information, the ability to separate data for
each template instantiation, start/stop timers for profiling arbitrary
sections of code, and support for collection of statistics on user-defined
events.

Changes: Support was added for GPGPUs in PGI Compiler and for PGI
compilers on Mac OS X. Workflow support under Eclipse, Charm++ support, and
OpenMP support were improved. The Python API was accelerated. The
documentation was updated. Assorted bugs were fixed.

[061] - Webtunnel 0.0.2
  by Janos Szatmary (http://freshmeat.net/users/jszatmary/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 09:01

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Security
System :: Networking

About: Webtunnel is a network utility that encapsulates arbitrary data in
HTTP and transmits it through a Web server. In that regard, it is similar
to httptunnel. However, its server component runs in the context of a Web
server as a CGI application (with optional FastCGI support), so it does not
need its own port. It supports most things that the Web server supports,
such as authentication, HTTP 1.1, HTTPS, and client certificates. It uses
simple requests and responses so it works seamlessly through forward and
reverse proxies.

Changes: Client certificate/key support for SSL was added. Some of the
configuration options were documented.

[062] - wview 5.0.0
  by Mark Teel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mteel/)
  Fri, Feb 6th 2009 09:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering

About: wview is an application that controls a supported weather station
to retrieve archive records and current conditions. Archive records may
optionally be stored in a relational database (MySQL or PostgreSQL). At a
user-defined interval, wview will use the archive history and current
conditions to generate weather images (buckets and graphs) and Web pages
based on configurable HTML templates. It supports serial and USB data
loggers, as well as connectivity with a terminal server or serial server
via TCP sockets.

Changes: The use of multiple text files for wview configuration was
replaced with one SQLite3 database. There are now multiple ways to
configure wview, including some new graphical choices. The use of the "WLK"
database files was replaced with the use of one SQLite3 database. Support
was added for the new radlib red-black text search utility for data tag
matching.
