Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: CVS is a version control system, which allows you to keep old
versions of files (usually source code), keep a log of who, when, and why
changes occurred, etc., like RCS or SCCS. Unlike the simpler systems, CVS
does not just operate on one file at a time or one directory at a time,
but operates on hierarchical collections of directories consisting of
version controlled files. CVS helps to manage releases and to control the
concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. CVS allows
triggers to enable/log/control various operations and works well over a
wide area network.

Changes: This release fixes a few serious bugs in both the CVS client and
server. An intermittent assertion failure on checkout was fixed. A final
fix for the infamous "Red File" bug on Windows was included. An upgrade is
recommended for all clients and servers.

The key-sequences are reminiscent of WordStar and Turbo-C. JOE is much
more powerful than those editors, however. JOE has all of the features a
UNIX user should expect: full use of termcap/terminfo, excellent screen
update optimizations, simple installation, and all of the UNIX-integration
features of VI.

Changes: This version includes many bugfixes and feature enhancements,
including xterm mouse support, hex edit mode, a scientific calculator, the
ability to jump between XML tags/word delimiters by pressing ^G, file
locking, and support for perforce and arch.

directly in the final form (as will be rendered). It is flexible and could
be used to easily integrate WYSIWYG authoring functionality into existing
products or services.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed, and compatibility was improved. Directories
(such as param_config_files_path, param_buttons_images_path, and
param_images_path) may now be specified as absolute or relative to jar
position. The XHTML transcoder was improved. The setCode(String code)
method, which sets HTML code from JavaScript, was added. The getCode()
method, which gets HTML code via a JavaScript call, was added.

About: powwow is a client program that replaces telnet for the lazy MUDder
who wants some extra features. It is primarily designed for DikuMUDs, but
nothing prevents its use for other types of MUDs. It is based on cancan,
but was entirely rewritten. It also implements the MUME remote editing

editor (several texts at once if you have a windowing terminal). powwow is
extendable through loadable modules to add support for new languages like
Perl and JavaScript.

Changes: This release add locale support for wide characters. The way
modules are loaded has changed so that symbols can be shared between
modules. This allows powwow-perl to use XS-based modules like Storable,

About: The purpose of SHAT (Source Hardware Address Translator) is to
support wireless clients regardless of the configuration of their IP

[052] - SpoolTemplate 2.1.0
  by Darvin (http://freshmeat.net/users/darvina/)
  Tue, Mar 22nd 2005 13:39

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: SpoolTemplate (SpTpl) is a report system based on templates. It
allows you to build reports from database queries using just a few lines
of code. It bases each report on a set of XML configuration files and a
little bit of PHP code. It gets the data to print from a database query or
from global variables, and you may output the data from a custom function.
Each report may contain many tables, and each table may display data from
different queries. It supports page headers, page footers (with page
numbering), and page and margin sizes.

Changes: This release brings two major updates: support for PHP5 and
PostScript output. The main difference between the two PHP versions is the
way that SpoolTemplate parses the XML file. In the PHP4 environment,
SpoolTemplate requires the DOMXML extension. In PHP 5 environment, it
requires the DOM extension. The PostScript output is achieved by the new
class that works with the ps extension of PHP.

About: Sprog is a graphical tool that anyone can use to build programs by
plugging parts together. In Sprog jargon, the parts are known as 'gears'
and they are assembled to make a 'machine'. Gears are selected from a
palette and dragged onto the Sprog workbench, where they can be connected
together. Options can be set using a properties dialog on each gear. When
assembly is complete, the machine can be run, reconfigured, or re-run.

Changes: Speed improvements were made. A new "Text Input" gear was added.
Many regression tests were added. Numerous bugs identified by the tests
were fixed. The code base was overhauled to improve modularity and
testability. The machine now reports elapsed time when finished.

[055] - Stunnix VBS-Obfus 2.5
  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Tue, Mar 22nd 2005 09:23

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Stunnix VBS-Obfus protects your VBScript code from potential
analysis, study, or reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the VBScript code. It converts the VBScript in raw .vbs
files, or in ASP or HTML pages into a highly obfuscated form, making it
extremely difficult to study, analyse, or reuse, while fully retaining
functionality of the original source code. It optionally adds expiration
and hostname checking. It has a lot of options to control all aspects of
code hiding, and has full support for all syntax constructs. It is
designed to be multi-module aware.

Changes: This release adds great improvements to Project Manager
(including switching profiles for protecting code or profiles from
mangling HTML markup and comments in a couple of clicks), the ability to
transform comments (e.g., replace all non-white characters with "x"), the
ability to keep line numbers of protected files the same as in the
original ones, the ability to keep banners and injected scripts below the
DOCTYPE declaration in files containing HTML markup, improved support for
some VBScript syntax constructs, and initial support for VBA code.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering

About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.

Changes: VisIt can now read SAR files, TFT curve files, and HDF5 Enzo
files, and contains enhanced support for PLOT3D, VTK, and Boxlib files. A
Resample operator was added to extract regularly spaced sample points from
a dataset, and a new Elevate operator was added to add a Z component to a
2D mesh, elevating it to 3D. Enhancements were made to the Transform,
Index Select, Reflect, OnionPeel, and Slice operators, the Mesh, Surface,
and Label plots, and the Query, Lineout, and Pick data analysis tools. In
addition, it includes dozens of other enhancements and bugfixes.

[058] - Visopsys 0.54
  by Andy McLaughlin (http://freshmeat.net/users/andymcl/)
  Tue, Mar 22nd 2005 04:21

System :: Operating System Kernels

About: Visopsys is an alternative operating system for PC compatible
computers. Under development since late 1997, this system is small, fast,
and open source. It features a simple but attractive interface, real
preemptive multitasking, and virtual memory. Though it attempts to be
compatible in a number of ways, Visopsys is not a clone of any other
operating system. You can demo the distribution from a "live" CD or floppy
disk.

Changes: This is a maintenance release, with numerous small improvements
and bugfixes including some general back- porting from the 0.6 development
branch. In addition, IDE disk-to-disk operations have been improved so
that they can happen in parallel, the kernel hardware drivers have been
given a new interrupt handing interface, and there is some improved
efficiency in a performance-critical section of the multitasker.

[061] - wyoEditor 2.3.0
  by Otto Wyss (http://freshmeat.net/users/wyo/)
  Tue, Mar 22nd 2005 23:15

Software Development
Text Editors

About: wyoEditor is a cross-platform editor based on the Scintilla editor
component. The editor has the usual features like fast editing, unlimited
undo/redo, syntax colouring, and folding for many different programming
languages. It also has a class browser, currently only for C++, and keeps
the class/function display updated. The editor allows editing of files in
tabbed notebook pages and/or separate top level windows. It supports
context-sensitive help of any kind of documentation (e.g. programming
framework descriptions) if provided as help files. The editor conforms to
the wyoGuide guidelines using the wxWidgets framework.

Changes: A rather seldom crash during exit was discovered and fixed. Some
text corrections were made because of the wyoGuide name change.

Software Development :: Documentation

About: wyoGuide is a tutorial, a collection of guidelines for building
cross-platform applications with a well-designed, consistent look and
feel. It gives ideas and advice on how an application and its GUI could
and should be written. Development with these guidelines gives the GUI of
an application a standard set of base functionality. wyoGuide also
provides sample code for each guideline written in C++ using the wxWidgets
(formerly wxWindows) framework. For a seasoned developer it shouldn't be
difficult to adapt these guidelines to other languages or frameworks.

Changes: wyoGuide has changed its name from wxGuide. This name change
signals that wyoGuide uses but does not depend on the wxWidgets framework.
The name change also stresses the fact that wyo (Otto Wyss) is responsible
for these guidelines. This change includes many small text corrections.
