[001] - Agata Report 7.2 (Stable)
  by Pablo DallOglio (http://freshmeat.net/users/pablodalloglio/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 09:09

Database :: Front-Ends

About: Agata Report is a cross-platform database reporting tool with graph
generation and a query tool like Crystal Reports that allows you to get
data from PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, DB2, MS-SQL, Informix, InterBase,
Sybase, or Frontbase and export that data as PostScript, plain text, HTML,
XML, PDF, or spreadsheet (CSV) formats through its graphical interface. You
can also define levels, subtotals, and a grand total for the report, merge
the data into a document, generate address labels, or even generate a
complete ER-diagram from your database. You can also develop reports using
your PHP-GTK interface and then call them using the Agata API from an
Apache or IIS-based Web application.

Changes: Bugfixes were made in the client version, the Web version, and in
report generation. New Merge Tool features include lines, rounded squares,
floating frames, text rotation, vertical tabulation, caret lines, EOL, and
wrapping. The sub-report parameters may be queried. Text masks and format
numbers may be defined for reports and sub-reports. Word wrap is allowed
inside long texts in sub-reports. AgataAPI was rewritten. Improvements
were made to AgataWeb. The report's parameters are stored. A new Page
Setup dialog was added.

[003] - avidemux 2.0.38
  by mean99 (http://freshmeat.net/users/mean99/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 13:31

Multimedia :: Video :: Non-Linear Editor

About: Avidemux is a graphical tool to edit video. It can open AVI,
openDML, MPEG, Nuppelvideo, and BMPs. Most common codecs are supported
(M-JPEG, MPEG, DivX, Xvid, huffyuv, WMA, etc.) thanks to libavcodec and
libmpeg2. Video can be edited, cut, appended, filtered
(resize/crop/denoise), and re-encoded to either AVI (DivX/Xvid) or MPEG
1/2.

Changes: The two most annoying bugs of rc3 have been fixed. Some internals
have been changed to allow run time MMX/SSE detection (no need to build an
MMX-less application).

[005] - basE91 0.4.2
  by Joachim Henke (http://freshmeat.net/users/johe/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 13:41

Communications :: Email
Internet
System :: Archiving

About: basE91 is an advanced method for converting binary data to ASCII
text. It is similar to UUencode or base64, but is much more efficient. The
overhead produced by basE91 amounts at most to 23% (compare to 33% with
base64). Under some rare circumstances (for example, on 0-byte blocks), it
can do a real 8-bit to 7-bit conversion, resulting in an overhead of only
14%. This makes it very useful for sending larger files over binary
insecure connections like email or terminal lines.

Changes: The AWK basE91 decoder no longer depends on GNU extensions.

[006] - bogofilter 0.94.12 (Stable)
  by Matthias Andree (http://freshmeat.net/users/mandree/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 07:14

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters

About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.

Changes: bogofilter can now use Berkeley DB's transactional mode for
database integrity/durability and better concurrency. bogofilter can now
also use SQLite 3.2.0 to store its tokens in a robust, easy-to-maintain,
but slightly slower database. bogofilter now defaults to tri-state
classification (Spam/Ham/Unsure instead of Yes/No). The QDBM database
driver was switched to use B+ trees for better performance. The
documentation has been improved.

  Mon, May 16th 2005 02:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Screen Capture

About: Browsershots is a system for automatically capturing screenshots of
Web pages in a variety of browsers and making these images available to the
public. Its goal is to make it easier to test the compatibility of Web
pages with a variety of browsers. The system distributes the work of
making screenshots among community members. Anyone can add URLs to the job
queue on a central server.

Changes: This release added a number of new features. The most important
were page-down scrolling in the ShotClient, server-side merging of
multiple pages, translation support through gettext, and tracking of
factory activity. The old PHP content manager was rewritten in Python. All
server output is now valid XHTML.

Information Management

About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.

Changes: Email submission access control is now better logged. Automatic
re-assignment based on state will no longer occur if the state was not
changed. A bug involving the state and the responsible list workflow was
fixed.

[010] - Catweasel Floppy Read/Write Tools 4.2
  by Tim Mann (http://freshmeat.net/users/timmann/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 02:47

System :: Emulators

About: The Catweasel Floppy Read/Write Tools are a set of tools for owners
of Catweasel MK1 ISA and Catweasel MK3/MK4 PCI universal floppy disk
controllers. cw2dmk reads several kinds of floppy disk, some of which
ordinary PC controllers have trouble with, and save them in the DMK disk
image format used by TRS-80 emulators. It can also handle any disk written
using a Western Digital 177x/179x floppy disk controller, a PC-style
NEC765-compatible controller, or a Digital Equipment Corporation RX02
controller. dmk2cw writes any DMK image back to a floppy. jv2dmk and
dmk2jv3 convert images between DMK and JV1 and JV3 formats without
requiring Catweasel hardware.

Changes: An improved write-precompensation option in dmk2cw and a few
other small changes.

[011] - Cheap Threads 2.6
  by Scott McKellar (http://freshmeat.net/users/mck9/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 23:33

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cheap Threads is a collection of portable C routines for
implementing sychronous threads. It includes a scheduler and a facility
for passing messages among threads. Threads may run in a round robin or
according to a priority scheme. Each thread must voluntarily relinquish
control from time so that other threads can run. Since the threads are
synchronous, i.e. they don't interrupt each other, they don't need to use
semaphores, mutexes, critical sections, or other facilities to keep from
interfering with each other. One version of Cheap Threads is designed for
embedded systems.

Changes: This release adds an optional ct_return() function by which a
thread may return control to the scheduler by a setjmp/longjmp mechanism
rather than by an ordinary function return. In some circumstances,
ct_return() may be more efficient or more convenient. By default,
ct_return() is disabled in order to avoid overhead for applications that
don't use it, but you can enable it by using a compile-time macro.

Communications
Internet

About: chestnut-dialer is a PPP dialing program, written in Python. It
does not require root permissions, but requires read and/or write access
to some system files (including the modem device). It uses the standard
pppd daemon for setting up network interfaces. Basic features include
account manipulation, including importing from another programs, default
accounts, a command line interface, and call-back configuration.

Changes: The account attribute use_script has been added, and is used to
determine which chat template to use. Improvements were made in predefined
chat scripts. The "Edit Account" window now warns users if they forgot to
specify any phone numbers. The format of diagnostic messages has been
changed. Improvements were made in CLI and GUI localization. Different
exit status codes are used. The "debug" option for PPP is no longer
required. The --account-name option now selects the account that matches
the given name part without case sensitivity.

About: Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose
of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a commandline scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the
Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes: A problem where an email message with more than one
content-disposition type line, one or more of which was empty, could crash
libclamav has been fixed. Other minor bugfixes have been made.

daemon or use shared memory to retrieve the data. It's designed to be very
fast and flexible and has a very well designed plugin interface. The user
interface features 72 configuration options and includes very nifty
filtering options.

Changes: This release fixes a fatal bug in the archiver part of the
fo_server. This bug caused the archiver to be caught in an endless loop
when there were multiple forums.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for
generating code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve
protected areas with hand-typed code and provides code expansion,
source-to-source translation, and program transformation. It provides a
native translation of CodeWorker's scripts in C++.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed, notably concerning debug sessions. Under
Linux/UNIX, you can now take advantage of GNU Readline in the interpreter
and debug sessions. Any function prototype now accepts default values for
their parameters, and the indentFile() and inputLine() prototypes were
changed to admit a second and facultative argument.

  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 15:44

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release improves automatic dependency resolution, makes
repositories canonical time sources for version timestamps, re-enables and
enhances local changesets, cooks with reasonable versions on the local
branch, and avoids re-compressing compressed files when storing them in
the repository.

[021] - doxygen 1.4.3
  by Dimitri van Heesch (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvh/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 06:23

Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation

About: Doxygen is a cross-platform, JavaDoc-like documentation system for
C++, C, Objective-C, C#, Java, IDL, and PHP. Doxygen can be used to
generate an on-line class browser (in HTML) and/or an off-line reference
manual (in LaTeX or RTF) from a set of source files. Doxygen can also be
configured to extract the code-structure from undocumented source files.
This includes dependency graphs, class diagrams and hyperlinked source
code. This type of information can be very useful to quickly find your way
in large source distributions.

Changes: This release adds support for browsing sources via GNU's global
system. It also includes a programmer's API for adding new language
parsers. The main focus of this release, however, is to fix bugs and to do
some internal code cleanup and restructuring.

About: Echo2 is a reinvention of the Echo Web Framework built around an
AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) rendering engine. It aims to
provide a component-oriented/event-driven toolkit for developing Web
applications that approach the capabilities of rich clients.

Changes: An issue where the same image was being loaded multiple times was
resolved. A Table component and supporting infrastructure were added. The
table renderer is currently very poorly optimized, so any changes to a
table will result in it being completely re-rendered on the client. A
SplitPane may now be configured to have the right or bottom portion stay
fixed in size when its region is expanded. SplitPanes may now have
background images. FillImageBorders may now be expressed using XML
StyleSheets.

  by NCT (http://freshmeat.net/users/smagnena/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 06:32

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy

About: Globulation is an innovative high quality real-time strategy which
minimizes micro-management by automatically assigning tasks to the units.
The player has to choose the number of units they want for the different
tasks, and the units will do their best to satisfy the requests. This
allows the player to manage more units and to focus on the strategy.

Changes: Free units now only go to heal if they are more than 10% damaged.
Speed of unit healing depends on the damage. Explorers now have a magic
attack. Shift-v toggles voice chat on or off. Graphic information is
displayed in game option menu. Gameplay tuning was done. An editor bug in
which the map couldn't be saved was fixed. GL display in 16bpp was fixed.
The configure script was improved for building in OS X. Minor bugs were

About: grml is a live CD based on Knoppix and Debian. It includes a
collection of GNU/Linux software especially for users of texttools and
system administrators. It provides automatic hardware detection, and its
default shell is the zsh. You can use it e.g. as a rescue system, for
analyzing systems/networks, or as a working environment. It is not
necessary to install anything to a hard disk; you don't even need a hard
disk to run it. Due to on-the-fly decompression, it includes about 2 GB of
software and documentation on the CD.

Changes: 192 new packages were added. Hardware detection was improved. It
includes Linux 2.6.11-grml, X.org 6.8.2, unionfs integration, vesafb-tng,

[033] - Gujin 1.1
  by Etienne (http://freshmeat.net/users/etiennelorrain/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 16:20

System :: Boot :: Init

About: Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It
finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable
partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical
menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the
structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even
load very big kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a
new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory.
Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in
real mode to be as compatible as possible.

Changes: This release contains many fixes, including fixes in the two
kinds of multi-session CD-ROMs, the command line of tiny.exe, the
association of initrd and *.kgz files, writing the partition table for USB
thumb disks, and the serial interface display. The use of /sys is preferred
to /proc information for installation on hard disks.

[037] - HTTP client request class 2005.05.13
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 23:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP client is a PHP class to make HTTP requests. It can submit
requests via a proxy server, establish secure connections (HTTPS) via a
proxy server, PHP with OpenSSL support, or the Curl library with optional
SSL client certificates. It supports HTTP authentication directly or via
proxy using the SASL library, like HTTP Basic and NTLM (Windows or Samba).
It submits POST requests with user-defined form values, file uploading, or
with user-defined request bodies. It retrieves the HTTP response headers
and body data separately. It handles cookies and automatic redirection
handling.

Changes: A workaround was added to forced the use of HTTP 1.0 only for SSL
requests made using the curl library versions that are not able to handle
100 Continue responses of HTTP 1.1 servers. This workaround avoids
situations that could lead to hanging the class in an infinite loop.

  by Rohan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rohanpm/)
  Mon, May 16th 2005 23:56

System :: Hardware
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Ivman is a flexible userspace volume manager for Linux. Originally
an automounter, it can also be used to run arbitrary commands when certain
devices are added to or removed from the system, when properties on
existing devices change, or when devices emit conditions. Unlike
gnome-volume-manager, it runs from a console. It uses D-BUS and HAL to
listen for new devices, and uses pmount for mounting.

Changes: pmount is now used instead of mount, so there is no need to have
any entries in your fstab for removable storage media and no need for
fstab-sync. HAL 0.5 support (meaning ACPI support) was added. Hardware
"condition" support was added, so you can, for example, automatically run
a command if your processor overheats or if the power button is pushed. A
video DVD unlocking problem was solved. The program no longer runs as
root, and is much more stable.

the P2P network of JXTA and plugins using P2P networks. Due to the fact
that developing a P2P application is generally much harder and time
expensive than developing a simple client-server application, the client
offers an abstract network layer for easy development of P2P applications

About: Spike PHPCoverage is a tool for measuring and reporting code
coverage provided by the test suite of a PHP application. It can
instrument and record the line coverage information for any PHP script at
runtime. It also provides an extensible reporting mechanism with a
standard HTML report implemented out of the box. The default report
displays the summary information about the code coverage for an
application and also shows the detailed information about a file
including which lines were actually executed and with what frequency. It
is possible to specify the directories and files that should be included
and/or excluded from a coverage measurement.

Changes: This release has Windows support. The restriction on which files
to instrument has been removed. Now, all files in an application can (and
should) be instrumented. Simple local and remote samples for setup

About: SteGUI is a graphical front-end to Steghide that lets users view
the images (in Bitmap and JPEG format) and play the sounds (in Wave and AU
format) that Steghide allows as cover files. SteGUI also contains a simple
text editor to manage text payload files (although any kind of file can be
a payload to hide). The idea is to allow users to manage the supported file
types and use Steghide from a single graphical tool.

  Mon, May 16th 2005 03:11

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: xlit is a program for converting text from one writing system into
another. It allows the user to define a transliteration simply by typing
the input strings in one window and the strings to which they are to be
mapped in another. This makes it suitable for use for dealing with
non-standard transliteration, such as those often necessary between the
language notes made by a missionary, trader, or other amateur and
technical linguistic notation, or between linguistic notation and a
practical writing system. It also provides some advanced facilities not
found in typical transliteration and encoding conversion programs.
