  by PtiYo (http://freshmeat.net/users/PtiYo/)
  Fri, May 27th 2005 04:35

About: Apes is a process production tool (in the project management
meaning of the term). It enables you to model according to the SPEM
standards. Once the model is created, it enables you to generate a Web
site that documents the process. The advantages offered by this tool are
conformity with a standard, the ability to validate a process model, and
the ability to easily modify a model and to regenerate the associated Web
site.

Changes: In this release process roles can assist the performer to realize
an activity (as specified in the SPEM specification). Saving a big
diagram to image now works properly without cropping. After opening a
template, a dialog box is opened if you try to save your project. Some
unit tests were added.

[014] - DACS 1.4.3
  by bjb (http://freshmeat.net/users/brachman/)
  Fri, May 27th 2005 18:08

Security

About: DACS, the Distributed Access Control System, is a flexible
role-based access control system, comprising a set of authentication
methods, an Apache 2 module and suite of CGI programs, and a single
sign-on system, oriented towards controlling access to Web service
requests. It also includes a C/C++ toolkit for building new authentication
and access control functionality into programs. It can help manage access
to Web resources in many situations, whether on just one Web server,
several Web servers at one site, or many Web servers spread across the
Internet.

Changes: Upgraded to Apache 2.0.54. The sslclient client is now installed
as a DACS utility and used in place of stunnel. A manual page has been
added for sslclient(1). Stunnel is no longer required. ACL filename syntax
has changed. Enabled rules must begin with "acl-", and disabled rules must
begin with "disabled-acl-". All other files and directories are ignored.
An ACL's "service" element can supply an expression.
local_cert_authenticate has been added; see dacs_authenticate(1).

[015] - DBTree 0.7.4
  by Cameron Shelton (http://freshmeat.net/users/csshelton/)
  Fri, May 27th 2005 16:05

Database :: Front-Ends

About: DBTree is a generic database access tool. As the name suggests a
tree view of the database is used as a means of database object
navigation. It also features Workbook, a multi-input/output SQL running
interface which is quite useful.

Changes: Typing '>' no longer brings up structure insight, but '.' still
does. The ability to run a workbook as a script has been added. This new
feature executes the first SQL statement in each workbook item and can be
executed by clicking the gear icon. The auto-commit configuration now
works properly. The ability to keep-alive connections has been added. This
feature essentially pings the database periodically to keep the connection
alive while you are idle, and is configurable via the configuration
dialog.

Forms Designer is available as both a desktop application and an applet
and produces standards-based XML schemas and XSLT that can be reused
outside EditLive! for XML solutions.

Changes: This release added support for dynamically updating Xpath
expressions, faster performance during load and run-time, improved support
for the list, table, and section repeating elements. Support for validation
rules were enhanced and support for hyperlinks in stylesheets was improved.
The output XML namespace is now set. The Visual Designer single solution
file now contains the developed schema and views. Mixed content is now
supported in XHTML sections. Custom tag rendering can now be specified via
CSS. An extended JavaScript runtime API, new examples and documentation,
and a sample forms package were included.

portability, but only tested on Linux and FreeBSD), and restores
compatibility with FreeBSD (timezone calculation). A second poll is made
if a time offset has been detected. The switches "- t" and "-x" were
removed. In daemon mode htpdate will now only adjust time. With the "-s"
switch htpdate will set the time once at startup and after that only
smooth adjusts are made. A "-l" switch was added, which enables logging
to syslog in non- daemon mode. A "-0" switch was added to make an HTTP/1.0
 request and a "-1" switch for HTTP/1.1.

[028] - Internet DJ Console 0.1.0
  by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
  Fri, May 27th 2005 08:02

About: Internet DJ console makes it possible for people to connect to a
Shoutcast or Icecast server and be a DJ. It is intended to be something
that the bedroom DJ will want to and enjoy using, and not just be a tool
for streaming music to the Internet. It facilitates live radio shows with
DJ chatter and supports cross-fading for dance mixes.

Changes: This release adds adjustable compression on the microphone and
limiters on the outgoing streams to prevent clipping and keep the audio
within acceptable limits. The microphone compressor sports "ducking",
which automatically reduces the music volume when the DJ is talking. It
adds a noisegate, a mains hum (<100Hz) filter, and meters for peak and
compression. This is the first beta version and comes with a makefile
(with the option to install to the /opt directory).

[034] - MoSSHe 1.3.4

  Fri, May 27th 2005 13:44

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: MoSSHe (MOnitoring with SSH Environment) is a simple, lightweight
(both in size and system requirements) server monitoring package designed
for secure and in-depth monitoring of a number of typical Internet
systems. It was developed to keep the impact on network and performance
low, and to use a safe, encrypted connection for in-depth inspection of
the system checked. It is not possible to remotely run (more or less
arbitrary) commands via the monitoring system, nor is unsafe cleartext
SNMP messaging necessary (yet possible). A read-only Web interface makes
monitoring and status checks simple (and safe) for admins and helpdesk.
Checking scripts are included for remote services (DNS, HTTP, IMAP2,
IMAP3, POP3, samba, SMTP, and SNMP) and local systems (disk space, load,
CPU temperature, fan speed, free memory, print queue size and activity,
processes, RAID status, and shells).

Changes: The filtering regex has been loosened to allow pathnames in disk
checks. The disk size base for localcheck.embedded has been changed to
kilobytes instead of megabytes. A 30 second timeout has been set for
HTTP/HTTPS checks.

[053] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 4.0
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Fri, May 27th 2005 01:05

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into
C/C++/Objective-C code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at any
point in a regular language and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel
supports the building of state machines using a named state and associated
transition list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of
its operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.

Changes: Action embedding operators have been changed to adhere to the
following rule: operators shall embed actions into a machine's character
transitions or EOF event, but never both. EOF action embedding operators
have been added. The interface to the host language has been modified to
better support Objective-C code and to remove the awkward mechanism for
giving an FSM structure a base class. An include statement has been added
for splitting a machine specification across files or for drawing in the
statements of another specification in the current file. Many more
updates and bugfixes were made.

About: t-prot (TOFU Protection) is a filter which improves the readability
of email messages and Usenet posts by hiding some of their annoying parts.
The annoyances it handles include mailing list footers, signatures, TOFU,
sequences of blank lines, and repeated punctuation. TOFU is an acronym
that stands for "Text oben, Fullquote unten", a German reference to the
practice of adding just a few lines of original text and quoting a
complete message below them.

Scientific/Engineering

About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.

Changes: This release adds interval arithmetic, which allows Frink
programs to automatically track error bounds and uncertainties through
calculations. Programs written without intervals in mind can immediately
take advantage of intervals, providing rigorous error analysis without any
modification by the programmer. The "what's new" file contains links to
example programs and more details. Several performance enhancements have
been made to division and subtraction.
