Use:

$ rpm -Uvh --oldpackage freetype-2.1.9-1.i386.rpm

And then modify /etc/yum.conf to include the exclude line:

 [DagWieers]
 baseurl=ftp://ftp.example.tld/dag/$releasever/en/$basearch/dag
 gpgkey=http://dag.wieers.com/packages/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt
 exclude=freetype,freetype-devel
