   Excellent thanks (and thanks also to Bill;  I'll compaer your script 
with this to see which is easiest for me.  Your sizes indicate that what 
I want to do is feasable!).

   As it happens, repo-janitor is what I'd vaguely remembered reading 
about and was hunting for :)
