This is plain stupid. You can't solve some lame problem yum has with a local 
repository. Not all of us has spare disk space and bandwidth to sync the 
repository.

I too am think about throughing away apt, but yum doesn't look suitable as a 
replacement.

Basically because:

1) Searches are not that good.
2) Meta data files should stay cached in the local computer.
3) I run nightly a strict that those, with apt, an update of the meta data 
files and downloads all the upgradeable packages, so that in the morning I 
can analyze what to upgrade, but without the handicape of having to download 
all the packages.
