ACX100 kernel module not updated

Today I was setting up a pc for a friend, he has an ACX100-based 
wireless card. Nice, I thought, freshrpms provides the kernel module!
But my entuxhiasm suddenly vanished: the kernel module is compiled 
against an old kernel (2080) that isn't even yet in the repos.
Let's try recompiling the source rpm then... no: it looks like 
hard-linked against the kernel version so recompiling against another 
one won't work.
What about recompiling ACX100 against the latest kernel (or make the src 
rpm kernel-independent) to make this poor italian guy happy again?
