It is a known problem, but we don't have a fix yet. It happens only if a
binary build with runtime CPU detection is running on an Athlon (as far as
I could determine). What's your CPU, by the way?

As a workaround, add
afm=ffmpeg,
to your ~/.mplayer/config (don't forget the comma).
