You've probably been bitten by the installer bug where you get an i586
kernel installed instead of the correct i686 :-(

To check : rpm -qa --qf '%{name}\t%{arch}\n' 'kernel*'

The solution is to back up your grub.conf, remove the i586 kernel,
install the i686 one and restore your grub.conf.
