Only the free "radeon" driver works currently with compiz, but doesn't support accelerated 3D for the most modern ATI cards out there (compiz works fine for me with an "old" AGP 9200 and a "recent-ish" PCI-e X300, though). Send your feedback directly to AMD/ATI... and wait for the free driver to support your card or for ATI to finally release a driver which supports the required extensions...
