I've tested FC6 with both an AGP 9200 and a laptop Mobility 9600, and both have 3D acceleration "out of the box". Extra bonus is that compiz and beryl work too. At least on simple single head setups, you only need the proprietary driver in two cases : 1) The free radeon driver only provides accelerated 2D and you absolutely need accelerated 3D. 2) The free radeon driver just doesn't work for you. Until FC6, I was running the free driver with the Mobility 9600, and 2D was working fine, although there was no accelerated 3D. But since 3D wasn't an absolute must, it was fine for me. Currently, I've been testing on a laptop with an X1300 (IIRC), and the free radeon driver doesn't work at all with it. Stuck with vesa and non native resultion... or the proprietary driver :-( Matthias -- Clean custom Red Hat Linux rpm packages : http://freshrpms.net/ Fedora Core release 6 (Zod) - Linux kernel 2.6.19-1.2888.fc6 Load : 0.08 0.09 0.06
